That meme. Yeah, that one. About those WIPs.

WIPs. I got 'em. Lots of 'em. Little bastards. So many, I was going to do them all, but have, in fact, done one folder out of 8...and it's not the biggest! But probably the one with the most fandom insterest here.

In alphabetical order of their working titles!:

Life on Mars

1. Sam and Gene are wondering how to deal with the fact their sergeant has been shot. Oh, and he's an angel. And that's quite hard to explain to 1970s hospitals, to they're probably going to take him to see Chris's Grandmother. Who's a witch.

2. There's an arsonist on the loose in Manchester. The team are hot on his trail, but Ray is suffering crippling flashbacks to being blown up by the car bomb. But of course he's too stoic to admit it.

3. The gang are on stakeout. Except that there's no way of watching the building apart from pretending to be fishermen. Gene isn't really taking to fishing well.

4. Gene Hunt is trying to take down an 'untouchable' gangland bigwig. No one has ever made any charge stick on this slippery crook. But Gene's about to, with the help of the crim's number one henchman and all around bastard. His name is Ray Carling. He's helping Gene because he loves him. And his life is very much on the line, one way or the other.

5. Sam is in the CID office late at night, having been haunted by the TCG and given up on sleep for the night. He doesn't expect to be interrupted from his happy filing time by Gene and Ray, but when he is he KNOWS they've been up to no good (in his eyes) but he doesn't know what they've done...

6. An operation has gone very well, and the cells are brimming with crooks. When one asks to speak to Ray Sam is pretty sure Carling will attempt to get the man out of trouble. But the reverse is true - Ray storms out of CID, telling Sam to throw away the key. It transpires that the man is Ray's father...but no one can ask Ray about it because he's stormed off. Sam's got a history with fathers though, and is sure he can use his experience to play counsellor to the two men and mend old family ties. Ray tells him where he can stick his advice.

7. CID have had a tip off, and Sam sends Chris, Ray and Annie to follow it up. But when they get to the warehouse it's apparently deserted...until the team get jumped. Chris is unconscious and Ray is fighting for their lives to give Annie a chance to get away. By the time she's called for help Chris and Ray are missing, and Annie's there only hope...

8. It's the evening after the death in custody of Billy Kemble. Ray owes Gene big time, and Gene arrives at his flat with some words of advice and a proposition. Ray can redeem himself, but only by putting his career on the line. One wrong move and he'll be sacked. But if he doesn't got through with the plan Gene will drop him from the squad anyway.

9. Chris and Sam are visiting an old lag in prison who says he has information. But who on earth can Ray be visiting there on his day off?

10. It seemed like a simple pursuit...Sam was driving like Gene's gran, Ray was yelling at him to put his foot down, and then the truck pulled out in front of them. Once the glass stops falling and the silence descends they both decide they're pretty much in one piece. And in 2008. Sam's confused, but his confusion is nothing on Ray's...why are they in a Jeep? Why does every house have a little dish stuck on it? Why does Sam live in a factory and how come everyone has a personal CB radio??

11. Billy Kemble is dead, Gene's banned Ray from the Railway Arms and Ray is feeling pretty sorry for himself. Somehow he finds himself on the roof of the station...looking downwards....

12. A chase ends up with Ray and a crim in a very icky Manchester canal. When Ray's not feeling well over the next few days everyone assumes he's either got man-flu (1973 style) or tickets to the match on Saturday. But what if it's a lot worse...?

13. A clever plan has left Gene with one dead informant, one missing sergeant and absolutely no idea what's going on. Once Ray has been missing for a month Rathbone stops his wages and they start dredging the canal and searching the woods. Chris is devestated, Gene is angry, Sam is trying to be optimistic and Annie is worried about all of them. Ray is alive and getting a kicking. But even when he finally escapes he doesn't know who captured him, what they wanted or whether they'll be back. But then, he's not sure he wants to go back either, because he knows they're watching him...

14. A sleepy frontier town is used to new arrivals...afterall, the man who is their deputy sheriff appeared only a year or so ago, after a mysterious stagecoach crash on the plain...But when a stranger rides into town the curtains twitch and the gossip starts. What's the stranger looking for? How does he know so much about the town's past? And will trouble be following hot on his heels?

True, Dare, Kiss.

1. Nash has another boring job on another boring building site. Made all the more interesting by an overworked underappreciated gaffer called Vinny. He's a kid with big ideas, and Nash can't help but feel he's got it in him to go far. But right now all Nash wants to do is get him as far as his bed.
