Homelessness.

Just went out and got a Sub (as mentioned in previous post) No other takeaway in the UK gives you as much salad as a sub. Admittedly I have it stuck between two slabs of bread, with veggie patties and mayo, but y'know, it's still tonnes of salad!

Anyway, that's not the point of this post.

On the way back from the Subway shop a homeless guy in a doorway tapped me for money. And, as being homeless is a major part of a fic I'm currently working on, I thought I'd get opinions from you guys.

What's your reaction to seeing someone begging in the street (sitting in a doorway/on the pavement, asking for spare change.)? Do you cross over the street/avoid them? Do you walk past, but not make eye contact/speak to them? Do you acknowledge them, but not give them money? Do you give them money? Or something other than money? What else do you/do you not do? Do you do all of the above, but in different circumstances (day/night/where you are/if you're with people/if the person is drinking/how they look, etc.)?

This isn't to judge anyone - and you must feel free to answer anonymously, if you wish! This is purely for research.

Would you be more likely to give money to someone 'doing something' for the money? Such as selling the Big Issue, or busking or the like?

I dunno, give me your general thoughts.
