Remember remember
Bonfire night! Well, sure, it was on Wednesday, but I just haven’t felt like updating. It was bloody amazing though. Met up with my old housemate, Gaea, who’d dragged along two Ozzy’s and some total knob from London. Gaea’s on a trampage with the ozzy girl, so she was all smiles. Lewes was as explosive as ever. The biggest effigy was a fatcat business man, reading his ‘Company Profits’ guide. Then there were the standard ones, the Pope and Guido Fawkes-but this year they also had the 118118 runners! One said 1 1ove 8ush and the other 1 1ove 8lair. They, of course, got blown up along with a few tonnes of fireworks.
That’s what I love about Lewes-despite having been going for 398 years they’re still up with all the latest goings on, and the celebrations reflect that.
The ozzies were fully excited about a ‘real English tradition’ so took photos of everything and everyone. It was great to see people that excitable.
There were, as always, a few hundred burning crosses etc. some of the people from the procession were trying to explain to the ozzies that it was all tongue-in-cheek now, but I don’t think they were convinced!
