It seems that, despite being almost the youngest person in my yard. And almost definitely the most female, I have something of a reputation...
Picture the scene...
At the top of my workshop, Ph, Chris, MattyMoo and LankyJames are all in discussion.
I am at the other end of the workshop.
A shout goes up. "OI!! Woman!"
I look up.
"You'll know. What's cottaging?"
This is on a par with the 'Come and explain what a butt-plug is' conversation of some months back...
So, dutifully I explain. During my explanation I use the term 'glory-hole'. There are some shifty looks, and then I am asked what that means too...
They then decide I'm a perv and a weirdo and anyway, how do I KNOW this stuff? I explain I am a woman of the world. And point out that even if many people didn't know what cottaging was, surely after the entire George Michael fiasco, most people worked it out. Also, I must point out that we do live and work in the Gay Capital of Britain. And there are some famous cottages around here...
They decide I'm most definitely a weirdo, and still can't work out how I can be in possession of such knowledge.
I guess I am freaky in that yes, I hang out with people for whom these terms are just not unusual...
(the conversation then descended into butt-plugs, felching, snowballing, strawberry kisses/red wings etc etc. It worries me that all these 30/40something guys just...don't know much.
In other news - I have replaced the front wheel of my bike. But not the brake disc yet - so must remember tomorrow on my ride in that I don't have any front brakes. Caretaker has found image of bastard!thief and is having images cleaned up and made clearer by security firm. Caretaker is gunning for thief's blood.
I had a fabby weekend with friends up in Norwich. It was really really great.
I think I'm out on site tomorrow. Which is probably good, the way today went in the yard (everything we touched turned to shit - the unCADable job is, apparently, NOT going to be trial fitted, so we started building it in the yard today...a full stair in the middle of the room. All did not go to plan. We spent the day trying to fix it.)!
