my day...
Today my day was Monday. It was Monday all day for me.
Now Gary's gone off on holiday I'm all free! But I have been left with a momma of a job to bring on home. I've got to finish this huge great bridge...on my lonesome. And we're still waiting on the architects for the final design bits. Gah.
So mainly today I've been grinding. With large portions of arc welding. (I usually mig).
And in overtime today I wanted to back heat my welded plates...but then I discovered someone had emptied the oxygen bottle and not replaced it. So I set about replacing it (these are big momma bottles - almost as tall as me) So I span it down to the oxy-bottle store (we move them by resting the top of the valve in the palm of our hand and spinning them on an angle so they sorta roll along the floor...it takes a bit of practise to do, as they're heavy) Anyways, I roll it outside and find that there's one bottle marked MT (empty) and two marked 'part full' and one blank one. Bottles should have tags hanging over their necks, but at a pinch, we do mark them up in chalk like this. Gah. So I take the blank one back inside, assuming that as it's on the 'full' side of the racking it's..like....full.
I crack it open once I've got it on the bottle set and.......it's FUCKING EMPTY. GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.
Okay, so I should have cracked it outside, but I didn't have a key to do it. So I have to go out and do it all over again - finding that the next one which I cracked open had a valve full of water. Eww.
Erm...highlights of the day...
At break time Matty held up his latest purchase from the cafe and called out "Now THAT is what you call an orange! Look at the size of it!"
We all sort of nodded in an absent way.
At lunchtime Matty discovered that no, indeedy, *THAT* is what you call a GRAPEFRUIT.
omg, I laughed so much I nearly puked.
This evening Smec and I walked between the piers, through the sea. It was a little cold but wonderfully sandy...weehee! And feels like it was quite a good workout, because of the resistance of wading through the water. I got soaked - I had trousers on pulled up to above my knees, but went in a little deeper than that...so was sorta...soaked. That's the fab thing about living on the beach..however wet you get you're almost home. And my knickers were dry. (I find that important...)
