you can run, but you can't hide
Some of you guys will have been sort of following
sal_at_home's saga of her eBay fireplace...which..isn't.
The guy from eBay who first off looked disorganized, then incompetent is now looking a little more like a crook. And isn't answering on the phone number Sal's got.
So...obviously there are possible routes of setting this straight via credit cards/PayPal...but this guy's still only a name and tel. no.
Luckily (or unluckily, really) I've tracked down crooks before, using the 'net. So I figured I'd give it a whirl.
Initial searches on name and number didn't bring up much - only that BT wasn't his service provider (Telewest were).
But armed with his name and a number, I wasn't gonna let this guy go and rip off my Momma! So then I started searching a little deeper. Eventually I found an archive pdf of a church newsletter from 2001, mentioning a guy with the same name, doing stonework. So I found out who ran the newsletter, got in touch by finding the person's current email addy, and after batting a few emails back and forth I got hold of a woman who runs things for the church, and she found his home address for me! GOTCHA.
Morals of this story:
The 'net makes the world a very small place
Don't rip off my momma cos it pisses me off
Like the title says. You can run, but you can't hide.
And good luck Momma!!! Get the bastard!
