Erik Duran, a former New York City police officer, was sentenced on Thursday to at least three years in prison for killing a man during a botched police operation in 2023. Gothamist Duran threw a picnic cooler at Eric Duprey while Duprey was speeding away on a motorbike following an alleged drug transaction. Duran said he threw the cooler to protect himself and other officers. He was convicted in February and then fired by the NYPD. The New York Times
