Torchwood One had grown too big for their boots. The way they treated aliens, and claimed anything of alien origin as their sovereign property, no matter who it belonged to, made the Doctor furious, but now they’d gone too far, and he wasn’t sure he’d be able to stop what they’d started.

Not that they wanted his help. In their eyes he was public enemy number one, but he couldn’t stand idle while Cybermen and Daleks killed or converted everyone in their path.

Yvonne Hartman’s hubris had caused this, she deserved her fate, but the hundreds of innocent bystanders didn’t.

The Doctor didn’t want to be responsible for destroying her life, for killing her. Taking her memories had been bad enough, but taking her life, leaving her daughter without a mother, her husband without a wife…

He would never forgive himself. Donna had been the best mate he’d ever had, and he’d already cost her so much. He just wanted to keep her safe.

The problem with having an obsolete TARDIS was that getting replacement parts for her was all but impossible. It hadn’t been so bad when Gallifrey had still been accessible, because even though TARDISes like his were no longer being made, there’d still been parts from decommissioned models to be found at junkyards like the one he’d found his beauty at.

But the older she got, the more prone she was to breakdowns, and he was running out of what spare parts he’d salvaged. Perhaps it was time he took a look around Torchwood’s archives. He might find something useful there.

“Power outage, what does it look like?” the annoyed voice said.

“Don’t you have a backup generator or something?”

“This is the power plant for the entire city! A backup generator won’t be much help.”

With all the travelling the Doctor had done, through space and time, the feeling of having been somewhere or seen something before was a familiar one, so familiar that there was little point in remarking on it.

Chances were, he HAD been there before, done that before, seen what he was seeing at some other time, possibly in one of his previous regenerations, so there was no point dwelling on it. He’d either remember the earlier occurrence or he wouldn’t. It hardly mattered.

“Haven’t we been here before?” Amy asked, frowning.

“Quite possibly. I’ve déjà’d every vu more than once.”

The one-note drone continued steadily, never varying.

“Natives? Where are they?” Clara had to shout to be heard.

“Everywhere.” The Doctor pointed at what Clara had thought were trees. “Wonderful, aren’t they?”
