“What’s going to happen to us?” Donna sounded worried, for good reason; she and the Doctor were under arrest, surrounded by armed guards, and were being marched… somewhere.
“Nothing to worry about,” the Doctor assured her cheerfully. “Now, if this was… oh, a century or so ago, we’d have been marched up a ramp and thrown into a vat of boiling oil, but it was decided that was wasteful, so now…”
“What? What will they do?”
“We’ll be dipped in a vat of warm water as a symbolic punishment, then sentenced to a few days’ work in the Royal Gardens.”
