\nStandard keyboard classification<\/span><\/b><\/div>\n
\nThe standard
\nselection of keys typically found on computer keyboards can be classified as
\nfollows:<\/span><\/div>\n

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Alphanumeric keys: The standard letter and numbers<\/span><\/div>\n
\n\u00b7        
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Punctuation keys: the comma, period, semicolon and similar keys<\/span><\/div>\n

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Special keys: These include the function keys, control keys, arrow keys,
\ncap lock keys and so on.<\/span><\/div>\n

\nQWERTY, AZERTY, DVORAK and other keyboards<\/span><\/b><\/div>\n
\nThe
\nstandard layout of letters, numbers and punctuation is known as the QWERTY keyboards
\nbecause the first six typing keys on the top row of letters spell QWERTY. This
\nwas designed in the 1800s for mechanical typewriters. This layout was actually
\ndesigned to slow typists down to avoid jamming the keys on mechanical units.<\/span><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nThe
\nAZERTY keyboard is the French version of the standard QWERTY keyboard. AZERTY
\nkeyboard differs slightly from the QWERTY keyboard. For example the Q and the W
\nkeys have been interchanged with the A and Z keys.<\/span><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nAnother
\nwell-known design is the DVORAK keyboard which has letters positioned for speed
\ntyping. Unlike the traditional QWERTY, the DVORAK is designed so that the
\nmiddle row of keys include the most commonly used letters in the alphabet.<\/span><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nThere
\nare no standard computer keyboards, although many manufacturers imitate the
\nkeyboard of the PCs. There are actually three different PC keyboards. The
\noriginal PC keyboard with 84 keys, the AT keyboard also with 84 keys and the
\nenhanced keyboard with 101 keys. The three differs somewhat in the placement of
\nfunction keys, control keys, the return key and the shift keys. <\/span><\/div>\n

\naddition to these keys, keyboards usually contain the following keys: page up,
\npage down, home, end, insert, pause, num lock, scroll lock, break, caps lock,
\nprint screen.<\/span><\/div>\n

\nApple Macintosh keyboard<\/span><\/b><\/div>\n
\nThere
\nare several different types of keyboards for the Apple Macintosh. All are
\ncalled ADB keyboard because they connect to the Apple Desktop Bus (ADB). The
\ntwo main varieties of Macintosh keyboard are the standard keyboard and the
