\nThe International Organization for
\nStandardization<\/span> (ISO<\/span>) is
\nan <\/span>international standard<\/span><\/a><\/span>-setting
\nbody composed of representatives from various national <\/span>standards
\norganizations<\/span><\/span>. Founded
\non 23 February 1947, the organization promotes worldwide proprietary,
\nindustrial and commercial <\/span>standards<\/span><\/span>. It is headquartered in <\/span>Geneva<\/span><\/span>, Switzerland, <\/span>and as of March 2017 works in 162 countries.<\/span> In
\nOctober 1946, International Organisation for Standardization (ISO) came into
\nexistence through the collaboration of the International Federation of the
\nNational Standardizing Associations (ISA) and United Nations Standards
\nCoordinating Committee (UNSCC) which are two different international
\nstandardization bodies before the formation of ISO. The name, “ISO”
\nis not an acronym but was derived from the Greek word “isos” meaning
\n“equal”. In a meeting held in London in October 1946, delegate from
\nISA and UNSCC from 25 countries come together to form ISO which officially
\nbegan operations in February 1947.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

\nThe
\nTechnical Management Board is responsible for over 250 technical committees,
\nwho develop the ISO standards. ISO is a voluntary organization whose members
\nare recognized authorities on standards, each one representing one country.
\nMembers meet annually at a General Assembly to discuss ISO’s strategic
\nobjectives. The organization is coordinated by a Central Secretariat based in
\nGeneva. A Council with a rotating membership of 20 member bodies provides
\nguidance and governance, including setting the Central Secretariat’s annual
