Meet Doodlebug

Meet my newest family member- Doodlebug. A very sweet, very clumsy, not very bright big boy. Best intentions in the world, but utterly clueless! He is so clumsy I had the vet check him over- she said she found no health issues, he is just awkward. Very affectionate but a very slow learner. The other cats have decided that he is a little annoying (he is very big & gets in the way a lot) but basically harmless.
Been a while-

Working on 2 oil paintings, one almost done, the other fighting me a bit:) Went out early in the morning a couple of days ago & heard the distinctive wail of a kitten in distress. Hunting around led me to my neighbor's pickup- he was out too, said he had not seen it but he heard it too. Trouble was, he needed to go to work, but he was afraid of hurting the kitten if he started the truck. I went back & put my elderly silver tabby in her harness & brought her out- she is super friendly to everyone & everything - sure enough, she had that kitten out in minutes & I scooped it up. Then in for a quick bath (it was filthy) & some canned food, poor little thing looked flat, just skin & bones. Obviously had not eaten for at least 24 hours (no poop until the second day). Very scared at once, but once cleaned & fed turned into a little purr machine! I was able to get "Truck" into a rescue in a couple of days, so I'm hoping its horrible start has a happy ending!

Sasha (grey feral) & 3 week old kittens!

Sasha's kittens are 3 weeks old! She is still quite skittish but for a feral she has made tremendous progress. Now she is content to take a nap while her kittens climb on me so trust is building,She wants badly to be petted but then panics a few seconds later! But she still keeps trying, I think at heart she is a cuddle kitty but it will take a while to overcome a life of fight or flight. Tig (Tiger, pale tip on the tail, sharp M on the forehead) is largest & most aggressive kitten, Callie (calico) most curious & people oriented, Tab (tabby) is a momma's kitten, the least likely to be away from her side.

Surprise!

I'm still fostering/taming a 7 month old feral kitten who was trapped a couple of weeks ago. She is making good progress with accepting that I'm an ok character & was due to be spayed in a few days (I was able to move her appointment up)

. SURPRISE! Kittens! The vet who examined her is properly embarrassed to have missed it. Fortunately all are doing well. She gave birth in my tote, but today moved them to the carpeted kitty tunnel. Here are some baby pics of my little teenage mom & her 3 babies- her spay has been rescheduled for January.

rescued kitty

I had noticed some feral cats were living in the storm drain, they were too wild to catch. During Hurricane Sally 2 youngsters hung out in my carport so I started to put food out so they would hang around for me to borrow a trap & catch them, but then another hurricane came & only one of the kitties took shelter at my place, but I was able to trap her! It will be a long slow road taming her, but after just 2 weeks I can put my hand (with food) within inches of her without a growl or hiss. Currently she is living in the bathroom. She does not have a name yet (too stressed for her personality to show). Scheduled for spay in Dec, I've already paid out $200 in vet bills for her (wormed, rabies shot, she had some injuries that needed treatment). Rotten timing since I just paid out nearly $4000 to fix my mouth after an accident but with yet another hurricane coming I'm glad I have her safely indoors! Here she is, using her carrier as a den-

catching up

Sorry I have not been posting- as my health improves I've been trying to catch up on all the stuff that I let slide during chemo & recovery - yard (it is a mess but coming along) & house.Found a new vet, I'm hoping we can finally get poor Tip's gut in good working order (this is her 5th vet, but this one seems more interested in helping her than $, a nice change!). Once she is doing good, it will be Shan's turn, I still think something can be done to help her sinus issues! Hopefully painting sales will pick up, they have been better for the last year. It really hurt my bottom line not being able to paint for a year. At least I have almost completely paid my medical bills!
I have a front porch full of hummingbirds- here are a couple of the little guys-

Turned out they were taking Santa pictures- so Shan took her turn! As you can see, she was more interested in looking at the lights (though she did groom his hair a bit).
general update

It has been rough weather lately- hot, humid, very heavy rain (1.5 inch in 1/2 hour rain!) which has been annoying 'cause I'm trying to get things done outside before I start radiation next week. With so much rain the grass needs mowing every week! It was a bit exciting in one storm- I looked out to check water levels to see if I needed to sandbag & lightning struck the tree right in front of me! bout jumped outta my skin- then the steam rising off the tree and the stink of ozone. Here's a pic of the tree & its damage- it blew some plants out of the ground and blew the pinestraw out at the base of the tree, but luckily no fire- I guess because everything was soooo wet! Kitties are jittery, they don't like all the noise. Poor Shan has had a rough year- really bad allergies for my poor girl. I suspect sinus srgery is the only thing that would solve her breathing problem but I'm still paying off my medical bills from chemo etc- saline nose rinses help her a lot but neither she nor I enjoy the process!

general update - chemo finished!

Finished chemo- YAY! Minor surgery tomorrow, not keen about being knocked out again, but glad to get this over with. Baldness is weird, when I walk it feels like I have wet hair- strange! I think kitties will be a lot happier when I no longer have the chemo smell- they have been acting stressed & sticking close.
We had a heck of a rain a couple of days ago- luckily I heeded the warnings & sandbagged out front. The water overtopped slightly but did not get in the house (at one point it was raining 4 inches an hour). Several friends got flooded, one was watching tv when she realized her feet were wet- looked down to see water all over the floor & coming in fast. Poor things, cleanup after a flood is a mess! It took a big chunk out of the bridge about 7 blocks from me, the road is closed & crews working hard to fix it.
pics from about a mile up the road-

sorry I have not been on in a while- I have been in the hospital having a large mass removed from my abdomen. Turned out to be cancer, but early stage. My docs think I have an excellent chance with chemo. Soooo, getting extra cuddles from my kitties & working on a mental reset. This too shall pass...
here is Sebastion & Shan, cuddling against my leg offering encouragement-

A HEADS UP FOR MY FRIENDS-

Just some info- I know I have not been on much lately but I've had medical issues & been in a lot of pain. Now that I FINALLY was allowed to see a doctor, they found the problem- a mass on my ovary. I also have Peritonitis - so NOT fun. I won't be online much- & they are trying to get me scheduled for surgery ASAP so I'll probably be seeing a lot of hospital time (they wanted me in today). I'll probably be paying for this for the rest of my life... on the good side I'm loosing weight (which I needed to do)

Merry Christmas!

I hope everyonehad a fun day! I have a bit of a cold but no biggie, kitties are all fine (though Shan hates the cold so she is mostly under the sheets of my bed).
I have deveoped tumors in my foot so walking is not a pleasure, but I've found a good radiologist & treatment starts as soon as insurance approves.I've caught this early, so my odds are good :)
I had a big art show at the history museum, they paired the paintings with items from their collections. It was really interesting, & there was a good turnout for the reception.
Some kitty pics- Shan
Dinks & Sebastian
