Mindful Walking
Down the Yellow Brick Road
By practicing mindful walking, Thich Nhat Hanh believed we can transform our daily routines into opportunities for spiritual growth and deeper connection.
Labyrinth walking is a step into mindfulness. Today, we struggle to stay present. We struggle to find hope in the middle of a patriarchal takeover of our Lady of Liberty. We (or at least I do) battle between rage and despair. The Labyrinth is my home.
I walk, often pretending to have on the red shoes of Dorothy, down the yellow brick road, making friends with my internal fear, the Lion. He embodies my fear. Peace arrives as I place each foot deliberately with my breath and let go. Courage and hope come along beside me. And just like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, I arrive home. The walk changes me, and everything outside of me remains the same. Some friends and most family stay on the other side, the masses eating at our soul, but I continue with purpose, one step at a time.
Let the labyrinth help you during these times!
