MEMORY SIMULATOR
[MUSIC] [MYTHOS] [4]
/// MYTHOS ///Deep within the confines of the SITE B complex, you awaken…
A dark, dimly lit room filled with tape machines and console computers surrounds you. Buzzing CPU towers and whirring rack computers line the walls and steel housing units criss-cross the room in intricately constructed aisles.
Lights of all colors and emissions blink and strobe… even in the wake of the mysterious dissapearances of the SITE B personnel, automated tasks continue on…
As you regain your composure, you stand up. A headache greets you. You lose balance and brace yourself against a buzzing rack module, your palm tender from a mysterious wound…
The racking is warm.
The room is cold.
You gaze around. All manner of desks and workstations sit abandoned. Personal computer terminals sit black, their desks covered in haphazardly tossed papers inundated with graphs and diagrams. Pencils and staplers riddle the floor.
You take stock of yourself - the pounding headache waning. Your balance returning, the snow in your vision fading. You are regaining control. You feel around yourself… still have your arms and legs.
In your mind’s eye, images flash. A park, a rainy suburb, a night-lit city, a make-shift bridge, a portal…
What happened…? How did you get here? Were you sent here? You struggle to remember…
Maybe it was all a dream…
A slow walk between the lanes of machines takes you to a passage hidden between rows of computer servers… a hallway, with dim, amber-toned fluorescent lights guiding you…
At the end of the hallway, a door.
Beside the handle sits a small slot. A symbol adorned above:
Your hand shoots to your pocket.
The tape.
You take one last look at it.
ISOLA…
DREAM CORP…
You insert it.
The door opens, revealing a dark, square room.
A gentle fog pours out into the hallway.
The walls to the left and right are covered in blinking lights, dials, switches and all manner of computer parts. The wall opposite the door is jet black, and completely smooth. It has a mirror-like finish to it, and it shines with a pearlescent glow.
In the center, sits a mysterious lectern…
It is made of a coarse, bumpy stone… it’s cold to the touch.
Atop it, a matrix of stones and crystals of various colors, cuts, and striations…
You approach the lectern.
Your hand is drawn to it, and you reach down, compelled to touch one of the luminous, twinkling stones…
It’s cool to the touch… but also warm… it feels as equally electric as it does stagnant… a strange radiation emanates from it.
A surge of energy races from your hand through your body. Images flash in your mind’s eye…
You return the stone to its resting place.
As you do so, a machine begins whirring. The countless lights flicker in unison, emitting a continuous strobe in a synchronous rainbow. It speeds and speeds until the light is almost uniform. Computers are humming like jet engines. Between the flashing lights, you swear you make out the image of a dark figure hidding within the lights... Your eyes dart around, reeling at the intense strobes… nothing…
The flashing ceases.
The lights return to their original state, blinking and oscillating in random patterns.
The wall opposite the doorway has revealed a metallic protrusion in the center of the black mirror.
You approach it.
You quickly realize the steel protrusion in front of you is a handle. You grasp it, and pull it downwards, and then towards you. A metallic cabinet emerges.
Within it, a jewel case.
The case is adorned with a distorted image of the sky, with a rainbow streak cutting across it.
MEMORY SIMULATOR is printed along the spine.
You flip the case over.
DIGITAL ANAMNESIS DEVICE is written amongst a slew of cryptic symbols.
You open the case.
A disc, holographic and amber in color, sits inside.
You take the disc, and push the cabinet back inside the wall. The protruding handle seemlessly retreats back inside, vanishing as quickly as it appeared. The wall is flush again.
You turn around and, keeping your distance from the mysterious lectern, leave the room. Back down the hallway, back through the maze of computer servers and tape machines and rack modules, back to the spot where you awoke…
You gaze down at the disc. A flash in your mind.
Remember…
You gaze back up. As you do, another hallway has appeared…
A door stands at the threshold: above it, a diagram…

To the right, a small slot… just big enough for a disc.
You open the jewel case, and take one last look at the holographic disc that sits inside.
You gently remove it.
You insert the disc into the slot. A mechanical whirr pulls it within.
A clicking sound emanates from the door.
You open it…
A gentle fog, a calming light, some soothing warm air…
As you walk down the hallway, you feel light, and start to float; your legs effortlessly pulled out from under you… you ascend, towards a faint sound…
A sound…like distant thunder…
/// MYTHOS ///DREAM CORP INTERNAL MEMOThis is the debut, full-length LP by DISTANT THUNDER of DREAM CORP. Over a year and half in the making, MEMORY SIMULATOR takes you on a sonic journey through forgotten memories, digital dreams, forgotten worlds and days past. Digital distortion, analog artifacts, low-fidelity tape recordings, vocal samples, MIDI programming and buzzing synths codify a range of tracks inspired by 90’s electronica, synthwave, eccojams, sound collage and digital computer music. A digital world awaits within…
This was originally an epic endeavor comprising 16 tracks. As the creation process developed, I noticed two distinct “styles” of tracks developing. The first is the “digital” electronic music that is present on this release. Mainly drawing inspiration from “forgotten” physical media (skipping tape, digital compression, vinyl crackle and compact discs), digital computer music, and busted home production, this album represents a distinct journey for myself, not only through music production, but through life as it developed. I narrowed it down to 10 tracks, reaching just over 40 minutes. Further explore the world of DREAM CORP by immersing yourself in the sonic journey that is MEMORY SIMULATOR. Realize and discover the connections to past releases to further dive into the mysterious DREAM CORP.
I spent a lot of time on this record. It means a lot to me. It isn’t perfect, but it taught me a lot about music production and what I love about it, so I’m sending it out into the world as a completed project. Nothing crazy, no professional mixing or mastering - it's cheap, it's lo-fi, it's hazy, but it's all my work and my vision. I did what I set out to do, and here is fruit of that labor. Ten tracks for you to hopefully glean some enjoyment from.
I hope you take something away from it.
The second style that I developed (along with the remaining tracks) will be brought to the surface later…
More music (EP3) is still to come.
