The Best Poems Encyclopedia would like to call for submissions for its second annual Poetry print Anthology for the best 303 creative works and poems written of the year and develop a new collection dedicated to promote the best poets in english literature and also discover young emerging poets among social poetry diaspora. The deadline for submission is 30 November 2011. All current members and those who join in advance of the deadline are eligible. Submissions are free and information on how to submit directly via the online form can be found at our website http://www.best-poems.net

We hope to receive your best poems and works that deal in some way with these themes: the focus may be on issues of modern life daily experiences in poetry of any genre. What we want are submissions that address the theme(s) of Human Relationships, Borders, Identity, Love, Life and Death, War and Peace, Inspirational, Politics, Women, etc... in new and exciting ways that allow our readers to see the multiplicity of angles and issues these broad headings generate.

Submissions are open to any poet from confirmed ones to new emerging ones.

A World of Scribbles

worldofscribble is a brand new writing community with a monthly competition for the best author and critiquer.

This community was created in order to foster writing. How exactly do we plan to accomplish that? Here's our premise.
(For a less list-oriented approach, please see the community's Welcome Message.)

In order to get good at something, you have to practice. Every month, you are invited to submit a work or works to this community. (No more than four submissions per month please!)

Membership here is open, but we want this community to be interactive. So, constructive criticism of submissions is definitely encouraged. In fact, if you make a habit of posting your own submissions while failing to offer feedback on anyone else's work, don't be surprised when the maintainer reminds you to do so. Conversely, you don't technically have to write one word publicly to be a member here, but you should still give an author feedback on what they've written.

At the end of every month, your maintainer will post a poll consisting of all the works submitted for consideration. If you like something, vote for it. If there's more than one submission you want to vote for, go right ahead. Once the voting period ends, your maintainer will count up the votes for each submission, and announce the winner.

Remember that bit about participation and constructive criticism being important? During each month's vote, participants will also be asked to vote for the person who has given the best critiques for that month's submissions.

If you would like to submit something for feedback, but not have it voted on, just let us know when you post it by using the No Vote tag.

Aside from writing and voting, community members are also encouraged to talk about the writing process. What is guaranteed to get your creative juices flowing? What doesn't work?

Because we feel that reading is part of learning how to write well, members are also welcome to post book recommendations, although the majority of posts should obviously concern writing.

The boring stuff:

Before you submit your first entry, please introduce yourself to the community. (Please make use of the Intro tag.)

When submitting a piece to be voted on, please give it some sort of working title. People are more likely to vote for your work if it's got a title, rather than simply being referred to as Choice X on the ballot.

Be polite. You're certainly welcome to explain why you didn't like a submission, just be nice about it.

If your work is more than a few paragraphs or stanzas in length, please use the LJ Cut to put your submission behind a link.

Please tag your posts by the appropriate category. A list of all the tags we use is shown below, separated by commas.

Malfoy was surprisingly light floating before him into Sirius’ cave where he had starved just to be close to him.

The act offered him no pleasure. It was perfunctory, raw and savage against flesh unable to resist. He came with barely a respite in his grief over his godfather.

“Now you have a little mudblood in you.” He whispered to the blank face, cleaning himself against Malfoy’s thigh leaving him in the dust and dry bones.

    Smith has been captured by the Indians, terrible thing to have happen to someone really. To be captured that is I could not possibly fathom how frightening it probably is. Governor Ratcliffe started going on about how they were filthy, heathens, a dirty race that needed to be killed off. His word is above mine so I would not be able to refute him even if I wanted too. But, I stood there by the wooden gate watching the men march off with their muskets, and I could not help but feel a twang of sympathy. Not for us heaven's no but for the Indians he was going to attack. The information passes through my mind over and over again as I retreat back to my tent. We invade their land, cut down their trees, dig up their earth and for gold right? Gold we have no even come across yet even though Ratcliffe swears up and down that it is here, and that they are hiding it. Well, if they were hiding it wouldn't Smith have seen it when he talked with one of them? I mean you could call me half out of my wits but it makes perfect sense to me. They attacked because we impolitely set foot upon their land and started claiming everything left and right without any permission. I mean I could be speaking out of line but, it would not be any different if a Spaniard with his Armada came onto English shores and stated, "I claim this land in the name of Spain!".

...I suppose I could be right.

Honestly, I really do not know what my stand is on this. On the one hand I feel as if we have committed some unresolvable wrong, and that we truly are the ones at fault in this. On the other hand I am unable to speak up for fear of losing my job....or getting hanged. Either one does not sound too keen to my mind really. Well I suppose losing one's job is a plight which can be remedied. Losing your life is not exactly something you can fix.
     "....He led us on a wild goose chase." I sighed to myself and sat down downtrodden on my covers. No, Governor Ratcliffe would not just lead us across an ocean for nothing! I mean given he has never quite had the reputation for being too trustworthy, or popular even for that matter. But, a journey this long and far would not have been done for nothing at all. Nothing at all except for when he stated it was for adventure and gold. And ....
    "....that is was all his for the taking." I said quietly recounting his words when we arrived. All his for the taking, all of it, the glory and riches would be all his. I looked up and sighed hanging my head again. It was all for greed and power. Not for adventure, freedom, or the pursuit of things to better us, England, the colony at large. Governor Ratcliffe was only dragging a hundred so men, plus myself, half way across the world for HIS gain. Not ours, not King James, no one else's but himself so he could look better in the eyes of the court! Not that people don't want to look good in the eyes of their compatriots but it's still the reasoning of the matter. The principle of the thing really. Or maybe I am just over thinking this entire matter and I am completely wrong, and this is all just one big misunderstanding.

....Well I wouldn't be TOO far from the truth there.

I pull back the opening of the tent and look out into the dark. It was really quite eerie around here when there was no one else around to talk too.
    "If they haven't attacked up multiple times then ....they aren't looking for war. What if they want to come to a treat?" Or what if I was completely wrong and I would be ambushed here all alone? I looked back outside again warily and practically jumped at every passing shadow.
    "No no no, silly Wiggins you aren't going to get attacked. They would see no lights, no activity, they would think everyone is gone. .....Or asleep.....and then they will attack." I gulped and looked back outside again. No, stop being so foolish! No one is going to jump in here and suddenly point arrows at me. My mind found it's way straight back to the battle that would be impending for both sides. I bit my lower lip worriedly, tentatively, sighing and laying on my back looking up at the cloth ceiling.

He watches the current questor stumbling valiantly around the maze, fueled by love as much as fear. They were rarely every truly wicked, but the rules are strict about redemption.

The clock ticks on, counting progress instead of time, marking off lessons the Labyrinth was meant to teach.

"Just draw a box that says 'other'," John offered helpfully. "Saves a lot of time."

"Saves you time," Sam snorted, "I have to fix them later."

John chuckled and Sam pointed meaningfully at John's own pile of IOA paperwork. He got back to work with a 'yes ma'm' and an unsubdued smile.

He wasn't used to it, you couldn't get used to something like that, but he'd accepted the fact that Jack was going to die. Repeatedly. Ianto finished mopping, returning the Hub to its not-really-a-charnel-house facade, and wondered if they'd get through the week without having to mop again.

It was hard, digesting the concept death wasn't death; his heart still stopped when Jack took a bullet or was mauled or electrocuted or-- dropping that train of thought with a sigh, he picked up the bucket.

Life went on, in that strange disconcerting shudder, but it went on.
