“You’re babbling”, sighted Yuffie.
Reeve positively beamed.
“I know, but am I not allowed to have a hobby? You have materia, Vincent has his mad love, Shelke has electronics – she helped me with that little cooling problem, by...”
“I’m so glad”, Yuffie cut ruthlessly into his speech. “What can that ground-breaking new Cait Sith do?”
“The tea, sandwiches, salads, other snacks”, announced Reeve proudly. “Just as I told you: the perfect host!”

“WRO is spying on us!” exclaimed Elena, rushing into the president’s office. “...Sir.”
“Nihil novi sub sole. And nihil novi demands my attention, because...?”, asked Rufus.
“Because I found proof! The public opinion will be...”
“As bored as I am”, sighted the president. “What kind of proof?”
Cait Sith, pushed into the office, started explaining.
“I’ll be a host of the next economical meeting, sir, so I came to check your sandwiches’ preferences – I wasn’t spying, si...”
“It’s the silliest cover story I’ve ever heard of”, sighted Shinra “but knowing Reeve, I’m somehow inclined to think you tell the truth.”

Cuisine&espionage&politics probably deserve much longer and more hilarious fic... I might even write it one day.

Hello all, flecksofpoppy here! Sorry for the epic delay! Life got busy, and other projects ate up my time. O_O;

So here's the deal: I'm going to stop posting weekly prompts due to the lack of volume. However, I think that monthly prompts would do just as well, since I personally really enjoy this comm and modding it isn't that hard. XD That, and I love writing and reading drabbles.

There were myriads of stories about the Medicine Seller. Stories, legends, tales. They showed him in many different lights: he was a mysterious benefactor, a demon, a ruthless killer, a cold manipulator, a charming, playful man... He was everything and nothing in them, but the words flew beautifully and he knew them all by heart.

The man of few words, but talked about. He had the make-up, the sword, the dress. That was what gave him power over mononoke – and that was enough.

There were myriads of stories about the Medicine Seller, but even he himself couldn't tell his history.

Summary: Felicia and Cloud try to cope and they succeed... mostly. Set of drabbles

I

She called herself ‘Felicia’ and was the head of the campaign for a legal acknowledgement of the human status – and therefore human rights – of ShinRa’s experimentation subjects.

During a press conference, Rufus acknowledged her actions and claimed to be ‘very happy that the citizens were taking thelead in the political life of the Eastern Continent.’ And Reno, even completely drunk, refused to talk about that to Felicia.

But what finally convinced Cloud to meet with her was Shinra’s reluctant answer to his direct question.

‘Felicia and I, we share a... past. A very ugly one. Don’t dig into it.’

Cloud ran into Felicia during the campaign about ‘works of bio-art’. When she noticed him, her lips curled into a sarcastic smile.

“Not quite SOLDIER, right? What those bastards did to you?”

He just shrugged. Felicia grinned, explaining.

“SOLDIERs don’t care. Society treats them as human and that’s enough for them. They must put a label of ‘monsters’ on somebody, after all. So, what did ShinRa do to you?”

He sighted, but answered honestly.

“I’m... not sure.”

“Show me your scars, then.” Felicia’s laughter sounded tired. “Maybe I’ll divine your past from them. Only history we have left, after all.”

Tonight, the ‘7^th Heaven’ was illuminated, crowded and a little... artsy, because of the exhibition about the dark side of ShinRa’s labs being held there. Guests could sign a petition, demanding ‘respectful and humanitarian treatment’ of the remaining victims.

Felicia’d helped with the organisation and was now sitting at the bar, drinking Wutaian rice vodka. Shot after shot.

“Touchy, aren’t we?” commented Cloud, a little amused.

She shrugged.

“Somewhat. Thank you for lending us the place, by the way.”

“It’s Tifa’s. And how could we not? We almost ended up in their position. It’s almost like... like our alternate history.”

“So, how well do you know Rufus?”

Felicia smiled her usual detached, cynical grin.

“Let’s make it a game... Which of those points apply to you? A. He manipulated and betrayed you, B. He almost killed you, C. He saved you and your family, D. You slept with him?”

Cloud sighed.

“Including the Turks’ actions? The first three.”

Amusement crossed her features.

“I’ve won—” she intoned.

“I’ve duelled with him”, added Strife.

“Sex, a duel – what’s the difference in this particular case?” she laughed, “Let’s call it a draw. But, unfortunately, the information you asked for is classified nonetheless.”

Sometimes, when they were alone in the bar, Felicia said a sentence or two to Cloud. Things like “I use ‘Felicia’, since it makes my father happy. I never think about myself as ‘Felicia’, but ‘Elfé’ is a name he gave me and at times I can’t stand it, too,” or “My father risked his life for me, and I’m grateful, but he expects me to act like the little girl I don’t even remember,” or “I’ve created thousands stories about those years and I panic when I can’t recall them,” and Cloud always nodded, answering “Yeah, I know” quietly.

Spring is cold in Kohlingen. Water runs in rivulets from mountain peaks, gathers, feeds into burgeoning rivers. Snow lines the banks, white on dark, broken by the green shoots of crocuses.

Locke thinks she's mad for bathing in those glacial streams – says she'll catch her death, though she reminds him every time that it hasn't happened yet. The water is bracing, swift with runoff, a welcome chill. Currents slip through her fingers, stealing heat and promising springtime.

Water, like death, is no easy thing for her to catch. She's long since learned to give up trying, and let it go.

Summary: On the anniversary of Meteorfall. (200 word double-drabble)

There's different names for it. Meteorfall. Ascension. In Nibelheim, it's Independence, and Tifa has heard Avalanche Day in Corel. Yuffie still calls it The Day We Didn't All Die Screaming, and sends out annual cards. Tifa has one on the mantelpiece, pride of place next to a mastered Cure materia and a vase of tiny yellow flowers.

None of them talk or think much about it, and when the day rolls around again, it's always almost a surprise. Another year past, time that blooms and fades like the day's pyrotechnics, leaves only ash.

Apocalypse averted. Life, despite everything, goes on.

"Fireworks tonight?"

"Kid loves 'em." Barret smiles fondly, and Tifa remembers the festivities last year, Marlene shrieking with delight. He doesn't like fireworks much himself, Barret. After the mines, he told her, after the reactors, sudden noise and combustion never feel safe, no matter how distant.

Truth is, Tifa doesn't like 'em either. They don't bother her, it's just... they're pretty, they're incandescent, and then they're gone. She prefers permanence. But it's tradition - got to celebrate by blowing something up.

"Just like old times," she says, punching his arm lightly.

"Yeah," he says quietly. "But better."

Dawn beneath the plate is artificial, overhead lights blinking and stuttering from dim to bright.

Night, too, is false, but softer: darkness lit by muted, smoky green and amber. Shinra doesn't pay for that light. Most is stolen, some purchased honestly. The rest is true fire. Jessie remembers gathering newspapers as a kid, cardboard, anything that would burn – Shinra doesn't pay for heat, either. Only thing to do back then was hold tight, wait for morning. Sun through clouds, though, never did see that.

Doesn't bother her much. She's got gelignite, wire, steady hands. Only fire she needs, she makes.

A/N: The Twins are actually among my favorite characters, but they are so unbelievably hard to write.

The first sensation you remember, as more than blurred impression, is sun on your face.

This is sun, you remember thinking, in words. You don't know where those words came from, only that when you hold your hand to the light, turn it over, watching shadows move across your skin, they are there: this is sun. That means something.

You cross the room to stand beside yourself, and the weight of your hand in your hand is an anchor, proximity the only comfort you know. You look out the window, restive, waiting, watching light and long shadows on bare ground.

You did not know then that things could change, but they have.

After the battle, there had been grief and celebration – each as grim and wild in its way as the other, no separation between them. Now, last night's campfires have burned down to cinders in the half-light of morning, and the sky is changing from dark to blue. You are not tired. You are untethered, and nothing is how you are used to it being, and the air beyond the mountains is alight with tattered shreds of red and gold, pink and violet.

This is sun. It means something.

Richard Poole sat still at his desk, his eyes closed.

"You alright, Chief? Chief?" Fidel turned to Sergeant Bordey. "What’s he doing?"

"He’s having his 'tea time.'" Camille rolled her eyes.

Richard enjoyed his morning cup of tea, like any good Englishman. Yet ever since arriving on Saint Marie, he took the time to really savor his tea. He sipped slowly, drinking in the scent and warmth. He often closed his eyes after taking a few sips. During tea time, he could forget about the unbearable heat of the island and was transported back to the foggy streets of London.

Author's Note: I usually don't condone the use of "alright" but for this case I made an exception (mostly to fit in the word count :P).

Summary: Fortune is more often bitter than sweet
    

Reeve sips jasmine, smiling at his own indulgence, this game carried too long past the end of childhood. He knows it isn't possible to tell the tell the future – but late at night, rationality means little, and divination at its root has always been savage: the roll of bones, rising smoke from a sacrificial pyre.

He raises the cup in a solitary mock salute – to Midgar, city of dreams – and drains the cooling tea down to the dregs. Bitterness fading on his tongue, he peers into the empty cup, adjusts his reading glasses and frowns at the story he sees written there.

I love this prompt, BTW.
