Somebody Should Be Kissing Those Lips

Luke watched Noah leave the exam room in a huff with his walking cane and felt tears in his eyes.

He stared sadly at the door long after it closed and forgot that he wasn't alone until he heard Dr. Oliver speak drolly from behind him. "He's an idiot."

"What?" Luke said, turning to Reid, all of his sadness suddenly turning into anger at the doctor's words. "That's a nice way to talk about your patient," he responded sarcastically.

Reid dropped the clipboard that he was writing on, as well as his pen, and Luke watched them both hit the floor loudly. By the time he looked up, Reid was almost to him.

Reid gripped a surprised Luke by the upper arms and walked him backwards until he was against the counter on the far side of the room. He then brought his hands up to the sides of Luke's face and kissed him hard, his tongue sliding into Luke's mouth, before he pulled back and ended the kiss with a small nip of his teeth to Luke's bottom lip and a playful slap to his cheek.

Luke watched dazelike as Reid returned to the middle of the room, picked up the clipboard and the pen, and began writing again. "Your boyfriend is a fucking moron."

"He's not my boyfriend," Luke corrected Reid, licking the doctor's taste from his lips and trying to gain some footing as the room, or maybe it was his head, spun slightly.

"Exactly. Case in point. He broke up with you. What an idiot."

"I broke with with him," Luke softly corrected Reid again, bringing his fingers up to his own mouth and rubbing at the wetness on his bottom lip.

"You come here to support him," Reid said, his eyes still trained on the papers on the clipboard, "...even though I've asked you to stay away...even though you know I'm going to give you shit about it. And then you don't back down from me, which quite frankly, doesn't happen very often. You advocate for him...drive him around, keep him from bumping into things. You come here looking and smelling the way you do, and..." Reid made a low growling noise in his throat, as he tapped his pen against the clipboard. "You clearly care about him, want to help him through the bullshit that he's been dealt, and he treats you like THAT. Talks to you like THAT? He's ungrateful, and he's blind in more ways than one. He doesn't need surgery. He needs someone to slap him in the head and tell him to wake up and smell the Snyder."

Luke watched Reid's lips move as he ranted and swallowed hard. "Did you just compliment me, Dr. Oliver?" he asked in a voice that nearly croaked.

Reid looked up from the clipboard in his hands. "Hell no. Why would I do that?" He turned his back to Luke and continued writing.

"So...um...you're gay?" Luke asked, the shock and awe still evident in his voice.

Reid spun around and narrowed his eyes at Luke. "What was your first clue? That's some impeccable gaydar you're employing, Mr. Snyder."

Their eyes connected and Luke chuckled awkwardly, which caused the corners of Reid's mouth to pull up slightly in a grin. Reid rolled his eyes and shook his head.

"Huh..." Luke laughed again, bringing up his right hand to tug on his ear. "You kissed me." His tongue came out and soothed the spot on his bottom lip where he could still feel Reid's teeth. "And bit me."

"I didn't bite you." Reid walked over to the counter, put the clipboard on it, and continued to write.

Luke rubbed his bottom lip. "Uh, yes. Yes, you did."

"Believe me, Mr. Snyder. When I bite you, you'll know it."

When? Did he just say 'when?!' Luke suddenly found it hard to breathe. He felt something stir in his lower abdomen. The room became densely warm. Why had he never noticed Reid's jawline before? Or his long fingers? Or the way his hair curled behind his ear?

"Dr. Oliver?"

"Yeah."

"Why did you kiss me?" Luke asked, wincing at his own words.

Reid stopped writing and turned halfway to Luke before turning back to face the counter. "I don't know. Moment of insanity I guess."

"Oh."

After a few moments of silence, Reid sighed. "He was leaving," Reid said, his back still to Luke, his eyes fixed on the papers in front of him. "You leaned in to kiss him, and he pulled away."

"Yeah, well...old habits..."

"His or yours?" Reid asked, shaking his head.

"Both maybe," Luke sighed out.

Reid continued to speak without looking at Luke. "And you looked upset...like, really fucking defeated. And I should take pleasure in that, right? But I don't...and believe me, that fact alone is baffling.............And you were standing there, looking like somebody had just kicked your dog, and God, your fucking lips. They..." Reid rubbed his forehead and took a deep breath before continuing. "If Mayer wasn't smart enough to take advantage of them, I thought somebody should be kissing those lips. So, I did. Jesus..."

Luke stood across the room, looking at the back of Reid's neck.

"Okay," I'm done here," Reid said, clicking his pen closed and turning around, crossing his arms across his chest with the clipboard. "You heard me tell Mr. Mayer that he has an appointment on the 18th for his pre-OP MRI. Since you're his seeing eye dog, I trust you'll get him to radiology?"

Luke nodded absently, his eyes falling on Reid's lips as Reid walked toward him.

"Don't worry. I'll give sight to the blind, and look at that: Richie Rich will once again get exactly what he wants. Imagine that."

"You're such a jerk."

"Yeah. That's the conscensus around here." Reid stepped closer to Luke as Luke looked up, their eyes connecting. Without even thinking, Luke leaned in...

"Dr. Oliver?" Noah's voice.

Luke jumped back hastily and and turned his back to Reid.

"Yes, Mr. Mayer," Reid responded flatly.

"Did Luke say where he was going?" Noah asked.

Luke turned around to face Reid, and Reid cocked an eyebrow at him, a barely there smile on his lips, mischief in his eyes.

"I'm right here, Noah," Luke said in an irritated voice, not taking his eyes off of Reid.

"Oh. Good. Luke. Why are you still here?"

"Uh..." Luke stammered. "Ya know...I was, just ya know, just hanging out, talking to Dr. Oliver, and..."

"You and Dr. Oliver? Since when can you stand to be in the same room together? What could you possibly have to talk about with each other?..................Oh my God. You were talking about me! My medical care is none of your business, Luke! I've asked you to stay out of it. Dr. Oliver has asked you to stay out of it. I can't believe you would do this! You broke up with me. You have no right to interfere with my..."

"Relax, Mr. Mayer," Rude interjected, a scowl on his face. "We were not discussing your medical care. I take doctor-patient confidentiality very seriously. However, I was telling Luke that I thought you were an ungr..."

"Anyways!...," Luke interrupted loudly. "Why are you back, Noah?"

"What? Oh. Yeah. Right. Richard didn't show up, so I need a ride home. You'll give me one, right?"

"Yeah. Sure, Noah," Luke answered, half-heartedly. He glanced briefly at Reid, who was rolling his eyes.

"Well, if you'll excuse me, gentlemen, I have work to do," Reid said, stepping toward the door. "I'll see you on the 19th, Mr. Mayer, to go over the results of your MRI before we proceed the next day. Your surgery is scheduled for 8:00 a.m., the morning of the 20th."

Noah nodded. Reid turned toward Luke and their eyes locked. Reid opened his mouth to say something but then decided against it. His tongue came out to play briefly at the corner of his mouth before he shook his head slightly and exited the room without another word.

"Luke?" Noah said. Luke watched the door close behind Reid and sighed. "Luke!"

"What?!" Luke spun around.

"Are we going?"

Luke looked back at the door briefly. "Yeah. We're going. Come on." He reached out to take the inside of Noah's elbow, but Noah shrugged his hand away and stepped forward with his cane.

"I can do it, Luke! Jeeze..."

Luke nodded silently. He pulled open the door and almost ran into Richard.

"Oh, hey," Richard said to Luke and then walked over to Noah, putting a hand on his shoulder. "I'm sorry I'm late. I couldn't find a parking spot."

"Well all that matters is that you are here now," Noah said, smiling in the direction of the wall. Luke watched as Noah let Richard take the inside of his elbow with his hand. "Lead the way."

"Hey, I passed your doctor in the hall," Richard said, a laugh in his voice. "That guy is so fucking hot. Wait until you open your eyes after the surgery and get a load of him. You're gonna die, man."

"Yeah, you keep saying that, but I just can't imagine it," Noah said, laughing. "What do you think, Luke? Is Dr. Oliver hot?"

Luke didn't answer and was out the door.

Reid looked up from the drawer of the filing cabinet to find Luke standing just outside his open office door. He returned his attention to the files in front of him. After a few moments he said, "Are you going to come in, Mr. Snyder, or are you just going to stand there decorating my doorway?"

Luke nodded silently and stepped in. Reid closed the file cabinet and threw a couple of file folders on his desk before walking to Luke. He stood in front of him, his arms crossed over his chest, his eyes dropping from Luke's eyes to his mouth. "Is there something I can help you with, Mr. Snyder?" he inquired in a low voice.

Luke licked his lips. "Yeah." He nodded. "Yeah," he repeated. "I think there is."
