Hi! I'm Snapple!

I use images from Getty and from various Jrock and Jpop fansites; and on occasion I'll use fanart from wen-wen.

My textures are all from colorfilter, and my fonts are all from da font.

Most brushes I use are not actually mine, but I got them so so long ago (like when I first got the internet on this computer) that I can't remember them! D: If you made one of them, please tell me and I'll add you to the list.

My first icon tutorial, since I rather like how it came out.

Note: This tutorial was written based on Photoshop. I do not know how it would be done in PSP.

How to make this into this:

1. Start out by cropping it to the area you need/want. Mine ended up looking like this:

2. Make three duplicates of this layer. Set the lower two duplicates to Soft Light at 100%. Set the top duplicate to Color at 33%. (This trick learned from teh_indy.)

You should end up with something like this:

3. Find a good texture. It's preferrable if it's slightly darker colors (ie, non-pastels), and there should be some kind of gradient in it. For mine, I used this texture:

Set this layer to Screen at 100%. The icon will look like this:

4. Make another layer of the same texture; set it to Hue at 100%.

5. Find a darker texture, preferrably dark shades of blue, green, or violet. For this icon, I used this texture:

Set it to Color Dodge at 100%. The icon will look like this:

6. Copy the "Color" layer of the original-duplicates; move this copy to the top. It should still be Color at around 30%, and will make the icon look like this:

7. Find a good light texture to add the "shine" effects to the icon. I used this one.

Set it to Screen at 100%. Your icon will now look like this:

8. Apply a border. I used a two-pixel all-sides white border.

9. Fill one empty layer with color, preferrably a neutral shade. Mine looked like this:

Set this to hue and adjust as necessary; I set mine at about 60%. The icon will now look like this:

10. Pick out what features you want to highlight. For me, I wanted to bring out the hair and the eyes. I started with the eyes, brushing in red on an empty layer. I set that layer to Color at 70%, and set a duplicate of that layer to Multiply at 20%. How much you need to follow this step depends on how the artist's work colors the eyes--works like Magic Knight Rayearth or most Clamp manga won't require as much coloring as this one did.

So, with two layers of red-brushed eyes, the lower being Color @ 70% and the upper being Multiply @ 20%, the icon now looks like this:

See the slight difference in the eyes?

11. Now, for the hair. I didn't want to bring this out too tremendously, but all the same. I picked a rather generic shade of purple, and painted over the hair on an empty layer. I then set the layer to Hue at roughly 20%--enough that it made a difference, but not a tremendously awkward one.

The icon now is pretty much done.

12. (optional) Add text if you would like to. On the original version of the icon, I did--you can see it by his shoulder. It's 1.5 pt Times New Roman at 340 kerning. The font color is the same shade of violet I used for his hair, and the text layer is set right under the colorfill layer.
