{"id":18888,"date":"2023-01-05T11:03:41","date_gmt":"2023-01-05T11:03:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/doodlelearning.com\/?p=18888"},"modified":"2023-06-20T13:40:39","modified_gmt":"2023-06-20T12:40:39","slug":"the-link-between-doodleenglish-usage-and-academic-progression","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doodlelearning.com\/features\/the-link-between-doodleenglish-usage-and-academic-progression","title":{"rendered":"Study: the link between DoodleEnglish<br>usage and academic progression"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>A summary of a recent study conducted by our team investigating the link between DoodleEnglish usage and academic progression. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-abstract\">Abstract<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We wanted to investigate the link between the number of stars earned (a virtual currency awarded for answering questions, completing concepts and playing games) and DoodleAge (a measure of each child\u2019s understanding compared to learners of a similar age) to see if using DoodleEnglish regularly led to a higher rate of academic progression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our findings showed a positive correlation between using DoodleEnglish and academic progression (measured in DoodleAge), with the children who used DoodleEnglish most regularly showing the highest level of progression.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Methodology<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For this study, the results of 508 children across 12 months were analysed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To measure each child\u2019s usage of DoodleEnglish, the average number of stars they earned per day and per week were identified.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To measure each child\u2019s rate of academic progression, changes in their DoodleAge were compared at 0 and 12 months.<br>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A DoodleAge is calculated by children completing a baseline assessment (BLA) \u2013 an assessment used to measure their level of ability. A BLA is completed when a child first starts using Doodle (0 months) and every 3-6 months after this.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The natural level of progression made by children not using any Doodle products is calculated to be a DoodleAge increase of 0.84 years over the course of 12 months.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Results<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A clear positive correlation between the number of stars earned and the rate of academic progression was found.
