New Music Tuesday #105
TravelCore, Snoop's NFL Christmas Halftime Show and Extreme DJing
Happy New Year! Do you have any resolutions? I don’t. I replaced them with mantras a few years ago and somewhere along the lines swapped the mantras out for ‘setting intentions’ which is just a deeper version of ‘mantras’.
But if i had to bring back a good old fashioned resolution for the sake of this newsletter it would be to do my taxes on time, get my email under control and stop eating meals late.
If you got any resolutions drop em in the comments!
SHOWS
12/31 - NYE is on Wednesday and I’ll be at Franklin Park for your champagne toasting needs. I still have no idea what I’m gonna play when the ball drops but I know it won’t be FourFiveSeconds cus apparently EVERYONE except for me hated that song.
1/5 - First FrankenBaby of 2026 and the line up is a banger. Sabrina Wu, Nat Towsen, Jeff Miller, Maddy Kelly and Alon Elian?! Yeah, come laugh!
NEWS
I’m enjoying this G/B/U format so let’s run it back. Here go some headlines you may have missed.
GOOD: Beyonce is a billionaire now. I still don’t think that billionaires should exist but that’s just me so yay for achieving a level of mult- generational wealth that will probably outlast humanity or something like that.
BAD: Wiz Khalifa was sentenced to 9 months in a Romanian jail for weed and I honestly feel like that’s a place I’d want to be sober in. Isn’t that the country where Dracula is from?
UGLY: DIddy’s sons are making their own documentary to release on the Zeus network and I can’t imagine how this will be anything but awful.
Also Snoop Dogg did the NFL’s Christmas Halftime Show this year. The show opened with a skit that was an ad for the Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg Elf On A Shelves and the set featured Laney Wilson, the K-Pop Demon Hunters and Andre Bocelli.
Within a 30 year span this dude has went from Murder was the Case to Snoop on the Stoop. Seeing the special made me wonder about where Snoop will end up 20-30 years from now. I want it to be some outlandish shit but honestly it’ll probably be hosting a late night talk show on a network he owns or something.
Serious question: you think he actually wears Sketchers? I tried to clock his shoes on the special and I couldn’t get a good look but they looked like Stan Smiths. Sketchers also be copying styles so…
VIDEOS
Tyler the Creator is continuing his new tradition of dropping a song on Christmas Day. It’s kinda like an audio update of sorts and it’s pretty cool. Great video.
Another day another Voodoo outtake. This sort of stuff is always fun to hear.
Soulection dropped this Swizz DJ Set. Early on he previews a few new records he has with Larry June then just kinda wanders around a few other genres for like 2 hours. Beautiful gowns indeed.
If you want to hear an actual DJ set tho…
Miles Medina is one of my favorite DJ’s. He has the right blend of turntabilism, musicality, song selections and party rocking. I haven’t watched this set but it’s probably worth the hour you’ll spend with it.
MUSIC
Mike Baker and Trackademicks went crazy on this lil 3 pack of jams.
Scienz of Life and Sol Messiah have teamed up for a group LP. I haven’t got to check it out yet but I’m sure it goes pretty hard.
The title of this album is crazy. I haven’t heard it yet but Tuamie is nice with the beats so this should be fun.
Coyote is so dope. I am kinda hype for him to drop a full joint with Statik Selectah.
RANDOM
I watch a lot of DJ sets on Youtube and I’ve seen it all. People are DJ’ing everywhere and some of these places include coffee shops, elevators, inside of cars and of course their living rooms. The places are honestly getting more extreme and if I had to guess why I’d say it was the post pandemic streaming boom combined with the Boiler Room-ification of DJ sets.
There have been a few instances of Extreme DJ’ing from the pre-streaming days but it was done as more of a sight gag or gimmick. There are two examples that immediately come to mind.
In the Oh My God video Ali Shaheed was DJing on the back of a flatbed truck which is crazy for a number of reasons. The main one is that records skip and tone arms pick up all vibrations. Those to factors alone make this an impossible set up. (shout out to the thumbnail for showing the exact image i needed haha)
At the end of I’m Gonna Git You Sucka it’s revealed that BDP follows the lead character around to serve as his theme music. Their DJ D-Nice (yes, that D-Nice) has a set of turntables and mixer strapped to his body so that he can DJ on the go. This film dropped in 1988 which makes this an incredibly impossible set up. (If you want to see it you gotta fast foward to the 3 minute mark of the video.)
Now that we live in the future where DJ’s are not bound by vinyl they are really pushing Extreme DJing to new limits.
Like this guy who rides around on a bike playing drum & bass. I am not that big into drum & bass so I have never sat through his sets but honestly on mute this shit is crazy to look at.
I just found out about this DJ on a TukTuk series. I watched a little cus I enjoy Mistah Cee’s sets and seeing him speeding through traffic like that just gave me anxiety. And yes, his name being Mistah Cee bothers me too but that’s not the point here.
I had no idea this existed. I just typed ‘skydiving dj’ into Google to see what would happen and it brought back this result. We truly live in a time where everything exists. It’s crazy.
Another buzzer beater find were these two dudes DJ’ing in a pool. I know the video title says ‘until our equipment breaks’ but that’s clickbait. Their equipment works the whole time which was truly a let down for me.
Lastly there is this group who basically sets up in random locations and then cooks full meals while they DJ and then sometimes hosts dinner parties. It’s not as extreme as skydiving but it is kinda just ‘what are we doing here’ type of shit.
It should also be noted that with the exception of Mistah Cee (his name is crazy work), none of these folk are black which somehow makes this all make sense.

This is without a doubt my favorite edition of the newsletter. Lmao at these DJ's.
My resolution is to stop reading news during the workday. It’s a horrible procrastination technique and tends to throw me off completely
