Glimmers
When all is lost how the subtle in our environment comes to the rescue
‘Glimmers’ is a buzz word.
Glimmers are a theory that helps support those enduring difficult moments in their life.
Glimmers are a moments respite for a weary mind.
Sometimes the Glimmers are lost and must be found again.
Glimmers are unique to those that see them. My glimmers are not yours and vice versa. It is something deeply personal.
Today I wrote a list of my glimmers.
1. Bright coloured flowers that pop against the neutral hues of a wooden table.
2. Films that move me to tears and leave me changed inside.
3. Music that awakens my heart and makes me want to move.
4. A beautifully styled table awaiting its guests.
5. Singing a line where my voice sparkles with vibrato.
6. Writing words that make tears well in my eyes
7. Sinking into a soft sofa whose virtues have been restored after long being hidden underneath an array of toys.
8. Seeing my children experience joy.
9. Swimming in the sea, the plunge into cold is a drug that stimulates mind and body. But only on sunny warm days I might add, I’m not as brave as some.
10. Gazing out into nature, it offers no judgment, it offers pause to my hurried mind.
11. A painting whose colours and images hold my gaze for the briefest of moments.
12. A rare moment watching a TV show with my husband, together we analyse crime, we find fault in plot lines and unite in our laughter of comedy.
13. A brightly coloured mug and then the trickle of heat from the first sips of tea that seep into my body to warm me from within.
14. A piece of cheese that’s far too large for the cracker it sits on.
There are probably more, and I’m keen to seek them out. I’m an electrician rewiring my grey matter so that the glimmers shine more brightly amongst the back drop of despair.
These glimmers are mine.
The word glimmers makes the mundane feel special, like sparkling treasure long forgotten at the bottom of the sea.
I had to write them down as I was struggling to remember them on the really tough days.

I keep a small journal where I write glimmers as I notice them during the day, an instant pick-me-up to read over on the days that are a little harder.
I love these, particularly 14 x
