Like other areas of the program, batch operations are at the heart of the Layout Editor. In the Layout Editor you can create a single layout report or apply a layout strategy to an entire sample set.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Layout Editor in FlowJo Video\" src=\"https:\/\/fast.wistia.net\/embed\/iframe\/857jyr2fcx?dnt=1\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen\" allowtransparency=\"true\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" class=\"wistia_embed\" name=\"wistia_embed\" msallowfullscreen width=\"580\" height=\"363\"><\/iframe><script src=\"https:\/\/fast.wistia.net\/assets\/external\/E-v1.js\" async><\/script><\/p>\n<p><em>Example of creating batched layout<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0simple graphical report can be produced by simply dragging populations from the <a title=\"Workspaces and Samples\" href=\"http:\/\/\/sethduncan2.wpcomstaging.com\/workspaces-and-samples\/ws-overview\/\">Workspace<\/a>\u00a0into the layout editor. In the example illustrated below, the\u00a0<a title=\"FlowJo and FCS Files\" href=\"http:\/\/\/sethduncan2.wpcomstaging.com\/workspaces-and-samples\/samples-and-file-types\/ws-fcsfiles\/\">FCS<\/a>\u00a0file A1.fcs was added to a\u00a0Workspace and\u00a0a basic rectangular <a title=\"Drawing Gates\" href=\"http:\/\/\/sethduncan2.wpcomstaging.com\/graphs-and-gating\/gw-gating\/gw-gatedrawing\/\">gate<\/a>\u00a0was created using the rectangle tool in the <a title=\"The Graph Window\" href=\"http:\/\/\/sethduncan2.wpcomstaging.com\/graphs-and-gating\/gw-overview\/\">Graph Window<\/a>. The\u00a0gate was copied to all samples within the Workspace by dragging the new population &#8220;Lymphocytes to the &#8220;All Samples&#8221; <a title=\"Groups\" href=\"http:\/\/\/sethduncan2.wpcomstaging.com\/workspaces-and-samples\/ws-groups\/\">group<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Layout Editor is opened by clicking on the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.flowjo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2013\/03\/LE-button.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-21816\" src=\"https:\/\/docs.flowjo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2013\/03\/LE-button.png\" alt=\"LE button\" width=\"24\" height=\"21\" \/><\/a><b id=\"docs-internal-guid-5dd671f2-afae-90d1-944e-3ba5b9622ff9\">\u00a0<\/b>icon at the top toolbar. The &#8220;Lymphocytes&#8221; population can be added to the initial blank Layout Editor by dragging the Lymphocyte population\u00a0into the blank space in the Layout Editor. \u00a0The top level population can be added to the layout the same way.<\/p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-21812\" src=\"https:\/\/docs.flowjo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/LE1-1024x433.png\" alt=\"LE1\" \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.flowjo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2013\/03\/LE2.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-21811\" src=\"https:\/\/docs.flowjo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/LE2-1024x506.png\" alt=\"LE2\" \/><\/a>\n<p>By default, FlowJo graphs the data using\u00a0the set of parameters and graph style last used when viewing the data in the workspace. \u00a0To make any changes to the graph, simply double click on it and uses the <a title=\"Graph definition window\" href=\"http:\/\/\/v10-0-8\/graphical-reports\/graph-options-and-annotation\/le-graphdef\/\">graph definition window<\/a> that appears to make changes.<\/p>\n<p>The work produced thus far is considered a <strong>Tile<\/strong>, a graphical piece that will serve as a template for the rest of the files, and be reproduced for each file by substituting in the data from those files when batching. \u00a0To <a title=\"Simple Batch in the Layout Editor\" href=\"http:\/\/\/sethduncan2.wpcomstaging.com\/graphical-reports\/le-iteration\/le-simplebatch\/\">batch<\/a> this report across all of your samples open up the <a title=\"Batch band\" href=\"http:\/\/\/v10-0-8\/graphical-reports\/ribbons-and-tabs\/le-ribbon-band-batch\/\">Batch band<\/a> from the <a title=\"LE ribbon\" href=\"http:\/\/\/v10-0-8\/graphical-reports\/ribbons-and-tabs\/\">Layout Editor ribbon<\/a>. \u00a0The band gives you the choice of the output formats, whether to put the graphics in rows or columns, set the number of rows or columns, and choose whether the\u00a0plots should be filled in going across or going down. \u00a0Make your selections and click the orange Create Batch Button.<\/p>\n<p><em>Output Formats<\/em><\/p>\n<p>FlowJo gives you the choice of batching to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A new layout &#8211; creates a new layout page within this workspace. \u00a0This page will be interactive; the plots can be rearranged, the data can be accessed from these plots and the gates modified, and the plots will update live. \u00a0<strong>Warning: this type of batch is memory intensive, as every plot must be created and then refreshed with all modifications.<\/strong> <strong>\u00a0It will slow down the overall performance of your workspace.<\/strong> \u00a0Consider using one of the other outputs to view and save reports. \u00a0The original layout containing the graphs from one file will be saved in the workspace and provide an easy way to generate these reports again in the future.<\/li>\n<li>The printer &#8211; this is the best way to create a printed copy of your layouts or a PDF with multiple files per page. \u00a0Batching to the printer automatically aligns all of the plots and fits them to a printed page.<\/li>\n<li>A Web Page &#8211; creates a web page called index.html that includes all plots, as well as a folder of graphics files for each FCS file.<\/li>\n<li>A Web Animation &#8211; creates a folder with graphics files and an animated html page that automatically opens and plays within the default browser.<\/li>\n<li>Power Point &#8211; creates a new power point file with one tile per slide.<\/li>\n<li>PDF &#8211; creates a new PDF document with one tile per page<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can also click the <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-29191\" src=\"https:\/\/docs.flowjo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/BatchButton.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"55\" height=\"53\" \/>\u00a0icon at the top right of the Layout Editor as a shortcut to execute the default batch.<\/p>\n<p>There are many tools available in the Layout Editor to assist you in creating a report and there are a variety of output options from which to choose.
