New Eroica Story - Preview Blurb!

The Scarlet Eroica!

Who is the Scarlet Eroica? This dashing and mysterious thief who has turned his talents toward rescuing French aristocrats from the guillotine has sent the English court into an uproar. Everyone wants to know who he really is, especially Citizen Franco Juliani.

He's not Dorian Red, the Earl of Gloria, that much is certain! Gloria is much more concerned with the fit of his coat and the fall of his cravat. His only interest in France is their tailors. And he is, not to put too fine a point on it, a nincompoop.

And he's not Major Klaus Heinz von der Eberbach, military liasion from Bonn to the Court of St. James. The Major might have sympathies towards the aristos, given his family connection to the Habsburgs, but he is a man of upstanding morals.

But - what mysterious shadow lies over the Major's recent transfer from Paris to London? And why has Gloria's ardent pursuit of the Major suddenly cooled? And, most important of all, will Eroica and his Gang succeed in rescuing the Dauphin? Or will the Scarlet Eroica face the guillotine himself?

STORY TO BEGIN POSTING TOMORROW ON PATREON ON JANUARY 5th,
THEN ON Ao3 STARTING JANUARY 12th!

Details here — https://www.patreon.com/posts/32311968

Summary:
All Eric Bittle wanted was the chance to see a bit of the world before he settles down at the family bakery in Madison, Georgia, for the rest of his life. So when he receives word that he's been chosen for temple service in Boston, he's secretly delighted. And a little terrified.

All Jack Zimmerman wanted was to be allowed worship as a minor god of history, not to follow in his parents footsteps, who rule the Greco-Roman pantheon in North America. And not to host the annual Festival in Boston in he parents' place, especially with all the new acolytes arriving and Kent Parson among the deities present.

2 Weeks Into Retirement!

As of today, I have been retired for 2 weeks!

It is just now starting to hit me, to be honest. The first week was a holiday week and so I was busy with family things as well as attending a celebratory concert (Weird Al). This week started with an unexpected visit by my brother - and I was able to join him for lunch which I normally can't do because of work. Tuesday I was a little under the weather so I vegged and rewatched Good Omens and Yuri on Ice, so that was a nice break. And then yesterday I realized - I don't have anything in particular that I have to do and it will be like this for the rest of my life. It was a weird feeling after 40 years of working with occasional breaks of unemployment - and working in one place for 15 years recently. I haven't ever been able to take more than a week of vacation at a time, and I usually ended up doing remote support at least 1 day during vacation. So now I'm feeling - something. Not sure if it's a good or bad feeling, just a little at loose ends, I guess.

So - I have a "things I want to do" list, and I will be going to visit my sister in upper New York in a month. Then my daughter and I will spend 3 days in NYC - we will be seeing "The Play That Goes Wrong" among general sight-seeing. Last time I was in NYC was when I was 12 and on my way to Germany (Air Force brat) - so I am looking forward to the usual tourist things. Katie has been more recently, twice with her theater department in college, so she has things on her "Must See" list for me. Right now, just trying to figure out where to stay while we are in the City. (I have zero idea about locations.)

And I am putting together a new desktop in my new home office, which will have enough power for me to vid. I have a FTH-commisioned vid nearly completed (done on my work computer) that I want to wrap up, and I have planned out 2 Good Omens vids that I'm eager to start on. And I am working on two FTH-commisioned stories (I miss my work keyboard! My laptop one sucks for anything more than emails.) So I won't be bored, once I get my feet under me. It's mostly getting past the mindset that I have to do this all RIGHT NOW before going back to work.

Biggest things I don't miss? Getting up at 6:30 in the morning, and the hour commute each way. And driving in rain like we're having right now. (Snuggling into my couch and contemplating diving into GO fanfic. I can resist anything but temptation....)

Anyone out there with knowledge about historical yachts?

Okay, it might seem like a bizarre question, but a plot point on a story that I'm in the editing process on hinges on this. (Right now at this point in the story it says "blah blah blah yacht technical info") And I just don't think that will work.

So this is the situation: A story that takes place in about 1794-95, and the two main characters each have personal yachts.

One yacht should be British in make, and it should be fast while requiring a smallish crew. It won't need armament but it does need space for illegal cargo. It should be the type of yacht that an English gentleman might reasonably own for swanning over to Paris.

The second yacht should also be small but doesn't need to be as fast but it will need some armament - a couple of cannons and hull protection - as it is used to ferry diplomatic personnel. The tricky part of this one is that the owner is a Catholic German so it does limit where the ship might be built - obviously not Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, or Prussia, and probably not France because they'd just invaded the Rhine area.

I've been able to find a lot of information about war ships and pirate ships, but nothing on a smaller scale, and nothing before the mid-19th century. Even a link to someplace where I can post these questions would be great.

Thx!

I am, quite frankly, bewildered by my fellow Americans and have no idea what I will say to my relatives in Wisconsin when we next talk (and yes, they are rural folks who voted for Trump). I imagine that what I feel is similar to what those who voted against Brexit felt, but that is only a guess.

And as for the mood around here right now, well, I think that Stephen Colbert said it best:
"Seeing this election, people all around the world...everybody's going to be saying, "Has America lost its mind"' And the answer is, evidently, 'Back off buddy, we got 300 million guns, and we're knda stressed right now."

Not much of a difference from last year!

First of all, thanks for volunteering to write a story for me! Second, all I really need is something with Methos in it, or with Duncan and Methos (can be romance or friendship). That will make me very happy.

However, if you crave ideas or more info, here's more OPTIONAL details.

Okay, first of all, I'm a Methos girl. I love Methos in all his various shades and colors, dark and light, good and bad (and naughty, but that's a different item entirely...), present times or historical. As long as Methos isn't bursting into tears, or acting like a girl and writing "DM + M 4-ever" in his journals, I'm probably going to like anything you do with him. I'm a kinky little bugger, and there's not much that puts me off except: permanent death, rape, and extreme BDSM (edge-play, knife-play, water sports, that sort of thing). I personally think that Duncan is the love of his life, but I am firmly convinced that he's not the ONLY love of his life, just the most recent (and last, when I'm being a mushy romantic).

Duncan: I adore him, too - after all, he's what I first watched the show for (back in the Tessa days before I discovered slash). I love his hedonism, his hero-complex, his need to make a clan of his own. And of course his sheer beauty. I don't mind comments/flashbacks about his past sexual adventures, het or slash, although I prefer het references to be vague and not explicit. Not too much Brooding Scot, please - a little bit goes a long way for me. Otherwise - have at it!

Non-crossover scenarios - anything you can come up with. I'm open for first times, future-fic, past-fic-AUs (where Duncan & Methos meet in a different time period), pure porn, plot-driven, etc. Feel free to use Connor, Richie, Joe, and Amanda in support roles.

Crossover ideas:
With Sherlock Holmes: I love many flavors of Sherlock - the original canon, the Jeremy Brett version, and the current BBC Sherlock! wouldn't mind any mix of the characters from both series. Want a heist fic with Irene Adler, Methos and Amanda? I'm there! Want to go into the Victorian era with Methos at the center of a mystery that Holmes is solving? Bring it on! A snark contest between Sherlock and Methos while long-suffering John & Duncan look on? You've got my attention. Caper, romance, case-fic - it's all good.

Crossover with "From Eroica with Love":
I can really see some kind of caper story featuring the Eroica-gang & Amanda, with Duncan reluctantly pulled in. Or some kind of spy-thriller with Methos helping out the NATO group. Or something completely wacky or completely serious. You do it, I will love it.

Crossover with Torchwood/Doctor Who:
When you have timey-wimey-ness and you have Immortals, they are bound to cross paths. I would love to see any crossovers with any Doctor and any of the Highlander crew. Has Methos been an Companion? Or what would the Doctor think of them - would they have a sense of wrongness like Jack?

Crossover with Sleepy Hollow:
I am a slut for this historical stories, and I would love to see either Methos or Duncan in the past of Sleepy Hollow or in the present.

That's all I have to say, except that I hope you have fun writing this - that's what matters in the end.

First of all, thank you for offering to write a story for me! I'm sure I'll love whatever you write. These are just some suggestions, in case you need inspiration. Also, this year I've included a bit more detail about what I specifically love in each of my fandoms, if that helps.

In general, I like m/m stories. I am in the over-50 group, so teen angst type stories are right out (I get enough of that from my daughter forcing us to watch MTV shows). I prefer maturity in my characters. I like graphic sex but that isn't everyone's cuppa so I am quite fine with fade-to-blacks, explicit sex, or anything in between. I like kink but I don't demand it, and I don't have a problem with genderbending, mpreg, bdsm, but please no partner infidelity. I don't mind if the characters have to go through angst but I like angst as an appetizer with a happy ending for dessert. (I like h/c but more comfort than hurt.) I love stories that explore characters - their back-stories, their thoughts, their dreams - so if you don't feel like writing a romance, I am perfectly fine with a gen story about the characters. I really, really dislike character death, partner betrayal, and rape/noncon, although I don't mind kinky games with characters playing at non-con. If you need to see the sort of stories I write, feel free to check out my website or my Ao3 site. Also, I have tried to update my LJ memories to include stories I enjoy - most of the Yuletide fandoms would be under Misc fandoms - and I've made a couple notes with each fandom.

From Eroica with Love - I would love just about anything in it: gen mission, romantic interlude, PWP, character study - I'm easy! I'm a Dorian/Klaus shipper, so I don't want to read about them with someone else in a romantic way, but I'm also happy with Dorian pursuing the Major without catching him. Possible ideas (but feel free to go with your own!):
1) Klaus is injured during a mission and when he wakes up, he thinks he's Eroica. Eroica has to pretend to be Klaus in order to complete the mission - and help Klaus recover his memory.
2) a "Sliding Doors" kind of story, taking a key event in one of the stories and making a slight change, and seeing how that affects the outcome of the story.
3) an "It's a Wonderful Life!" type of story, having a character see how their absence changes events (and for this one, I would be perfectly fine for the viewpoint character to be a minor one - an Alphabet or an Eroica gang member, as long as the focus is primarily on how it affects Dorian or Klaus).

Endeavour - This is a new fandom for me, so I am open for anything. Any character, but especially Endeavour Morse. Any kind of story - case, backstory, romance, slice of life, they are all fine. I love the way the outsider Morse doesn't quite fit into the station, and his awkwardness with the Thursday family, and the way they make allowances for him.

Scarlet Pimpernell - Percy is a must, but feel free to add anyone else you want in here. And I mean anyone. Feel free to rip my heart out. Go on - you know you want to. And I'm a big fan of Historical fiction, so additional references to costuming, social life, dancing, slang of the period, historical characters, etc., will make me giddy with delight.

ADDENDUM:
The Librarians (TV) - I recently binge-watched this and I am in the mood for some magical goodness. I would love a story that follows up on the Christmas episode, but I would also enjoy anything that shows them acting/working/playing as a team.

Thanks again for writing for me!

Back Home from Vegas - and an Imzy question

So, I am back from a short conference in Vegas - learning more about Code42 and Crashplan. It was fun although tiring, and I took a lot of pictures of the hotels, as well as our Keynote speaker, Bill Nye! And I got to meet him! Album is here: https://goo.gl/photos/cYJf1QYqkHcFvASW9

And as I get back into fandom after all the recent RL craziness, I hear that Imzy is where all the cool kids are hanging out. Clue me in? Does it look viable, and is it someplace I should set up myself? It looks like you need an invite, like Ao3, too.

After I recover from the trip, I will be getting ready for Festivids and Yuletide - and working on the stories I've got cooking. Too much inspiration and too little time!
