Recently I was featured in Codeable's Build With Heart podcast hosted by Andrew Ryan where I was asked to give a presentation on soft skills representing some of the best advice I've learned while working with Codeable. In this session, I walk through several frameworks and mindsets that any contractor can implement today to increase acquisition rates, improve retention, better position themselves for future opportunities, and generally stand out in a competitive professional environment. Marcel Schmitz and Tome Pajkovski recently joined our partners at GREYD to discuss modern WordPress architecture with Jessica Lyschik. The conversation centered on a practical truth. Developers should not use new tools to mask poor fundamentals. Marcel pointed out that adopting Headless WordPress to solve performance issues often ignores the real problem of poorly optimized PHP. Shipping a massive JavaScript payload is rarely the right fix for a slow server. Tome applied the same logic to AI. It is excellent for scaffolding routine code. It still struggles with messy human business logic. The developer's role is shifting from writing basic syntax to acting as a technical architect. Win of the week: Reducing an options table from 29 million rows to 12k. Overall database size reduced from 8GB to 0.5GB, a 15GB savings across Prod & Dev environments. 99% of the options table entries were due to a single poorly performing plugin.
