But if you have custom project-specific requirements, WhatsApp me first and describe your needs, to discuss. Then, I need to confirm IF I can help with your task - IF I can, we prepare a brief "Scope of Work" description of "services to be performed", for which I'll try quote, or estimate the hours required. THEN you can pay here for the estimated required hours. Then I can do the work.

As soon as I receive payment, I schedule the work for go-ahead (and if you purchased training, arrange training dates with you), with my highest priority going to pre-paid work, or fast-paying clients. Pre-paying allows me to do your work in the fastest possible time.

This may cover many possible services, including Training (for individuals or organizations) for TLex/tlTerm etc., or Technical Support (answering questions about TLex/tlTerm/tlCorpus, remotely assisting with issues, help with software setup and installation), consultation hours (for example, if you want me to spend some time studying your data or project requirements (via online meeting to discuss), and advise/quote, or say, assist remotely via screen-sharing or remote video, Zoom, Teams, WhatsApp, or customization work, that is, customizing TLex/tlTerm for your project (for example, DTD design/customization to add new fields needed for your project), or Lua scripting for TLex "smart styles", Data Conversion and importing work (for example, if you have dictionary/terminology data in Word or Excel you need help bringing into TLex or tlTerm), website or mobile App development, discussions of training requirements, skills transfer/mentoring training (for example, training your IT staff on technical skills for TLex/tlTerm), assistance with multi-user server setup (PostgreSQL/MySQL/ODBC), AI/LLM integration customization, game development, more.

➡️ I have presented Software Training internationally for many users of TLex/tlTerm, including Oxford University Press, EC Department of Education (2024), PanSALB National Lexicography Units, university departments, the Malaysian Institute of Languages and Literature (DBP), and more. (Note I can only present training in English or Afrikaans, but can cover any languages as training topics.)

Training Duration Guideline (depending on your budget and needs):

  • 4 to 8 hours (half-day) training is good for briefly covering 'the core basics' of TLex/tlTerm as a starter training suggested for most clients with a modest training budget
  • 1 to 2 hours training "if that's all you can budget", or just need to cover a few specific requested topics
  • 3-day training (24 hours = 3 days x 8 hours) (or 2 to 4 days) is recommended training option for organizations/teams (with decent training budget), for good coverage of topics and to get the most value and "return on investment" from the software. This option also allows some time for me to hear feedback and questions from users during training, and for me to analyze your data and other project-specific requirements, and start some assisting with TLex/tlTerm customization, such as setting up project-specific fields/languages/styles and lists

If unsure, I suggest start with 4-8 hours, then you can book more again, if needed.

(Although we have 'standard' training programmes, I like to slightly adapt the training for each group's needs (your projects and deadlines, languages involved, project-specific fields etc.) in order for attendees to get the most value from the training. For example, if you're creating Chinese dictionaries, cover handling Pinyin. For Malay, cover how to enter Jawi. Or Arabic/Hebrew vowel markers. For isiZulu and related languages, cover noun classes, conjunctions etc.)

Recent Key Project Showcase

➡️ For EC Department of Education (2024), I led development of a multilingual educational terminology platform (for Mother-Tongue-Based Bilingual Education), with Apps/website for learners to access the terminology and other educational resources (e.g. spelling rules), isiXhosa idioms and expressions, terminology cloud server (PostgreSQL; API server), tlTerm software for editing terminology, live-publishing new terminology, and more. I also presented Software Training (see Social Media Coverage ») for ECDOE for the system. The user interface for learners has also been localized/translated into isiXhosa, Sesotho and Afrikaans, to ease access in their home language for young learners who may not know English.
