Grading and Attendance

Grading Guidelines

The student must complete the following to pass the course:

  • Completion of the entire course (Assignments, Learning Activities, Tickets to/or exit from Class, Exams, and ATI Activities, Modules and Testing) with a cumulative of 80% or better in each of the weighted categories.
  • Students that fail to maintain a minimum course performance level may be subject to disciplinary action and/or academic probation or program dismissal.
  • Quizzes, assignments, or participation activities done during class time will require student engagement. Students absent for that day may not be able to complete in-class activities or assignments and receive zero points. No makeup work will be available.
  • Assignments will include, but not limited to reflective journal entries, research papers, lab activities, clinical papers, case studies, nursing care plans, group projects and presentations, basic concept mapping, and any other assignment as assigned by faculty. Students will be responsible for completing the ticket to class (pre-class work) by the start of each class as an entrance ‘ticket’ to class.
  • Submission of all work including ATI activities, tutorials, modules, exams and simulations must be turned in by the specified deadline (date/time).
  • To successfully complete the course, the student MUST have a cumulative exam score of 80% or above and obtain a Level 2 or better on the ATI Content Mastery Proctored Exam. If the student does not achieve 80% on course final or reach a Level 2, they must retake the exam within one week of the due date. If the retake is not taken within the one-week period, the student may be unable to progress in the program or obtain course completion. If level 2 is not reached after the retake attempt, the student receives a score less than 80% as determined by cut scores. This score will be included in the exam cumulative total. The student that receives Below Level 1 on the retake, may receive a zero score for the exam, and may not pass the course, and may not be able to progress in the program.

Attendance Guidelines

The Practical Nursing program has a strict attendance guideline due to the nature of the program and healthcare. It is important and expected that all students will be present and on time for class, labs, and clinicals in order to understand the concepts taught.

This program moves so rapidly, that missing even a day may place you behind the rest of the class.

Students are required to maintain a minimum of 90% attendance per course, per term. With the exception of clinical rotations where 100% attendance is highly recommended.

Additionally:

  • Being 10 minutes late is considered a tardy
  • Four tardies will be considered an absence and recorded in Northstar.
  • All tardies that are more than 15 minutes may be considered an absence for the first hour of that course. Students will be responsible for any coursework covered.

If students fall below the minimum of 90% attendance, they may be subject to academic discipline.
