Completing the Plumbing Residential Program is a prerequisite for this program.
Dixie Tech’s accredited Plumbing Apprenticeship program builds on the Plumbing Residential Certificate and prepares you for the Utah Commercial Journeyman Plumber Exam. You’ll deepen your expertise in IPC and plumbing systems, positioning you for a successful career in the plumbing trades.
The Plumbing Apprenticeship program is a continuation of the three-year Plumbing Residential program. Students begin by completing the Plumbing Residential program, where they gain the fundamental knowledge and hands-on skills needed for residential work in the plumbing trade. After graduation, they advance into the Plumbing Apprenticeship program for an additional year of in-depth training focused on commercial and industrial plumbing systems.
Together, these four years of classroom instruction and on-the-job experience make up the full Plumbing Apprenticeship program. Upon completion, graduates are fully prepared to take the state Prov Commercial Journeyman Plumber Exam, a key step toward becoming a licensed professional in the plumbing industry.

The Plumbing Apprenticeship program at Dixie Technical College is a comprehensive course designed to equip students with the essential knowledge and skills to excel in the plumbing industry. This program focuses on practical training and theoretical knowledge, preparing students to become proficient in various aspects of plumbing and to pass their 4-year Journeyman testing successfully. Graduates will be ready to meet the demands of the industry and embark on rewarding careers as skilled plumbers.
Attendance Standard: This program has a minimum attendance standard of 83% (75 hours per semester).

- Determine the application of the International Plumbing Code (IPC).
- Demonstrate how to navigate the International Plumbing Code (IPC).
- Calculate sizing of various piping, including natural gas, supply, and waste lines.
- Demonstrate the application of the International Fuel Gas Code.
- Demonstrate the application of the International Mechanical Code.
- Demonstrate practical application of plumbing mathematics.
- Apply critical and practical thinking skills necessary to pass the State Journeyman’s Test.
