Bring your design ideas to life with our Drafting & Design program tailored for students passionate about architectural and mechanical drafting. You’ll gain hands-on experience using industry standard tools like AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, SolidWorks, and other advanced 3D rendering software. From hand sketches to fully realized construction or manufacturing documents, this program lets you take your creativity from concept to completion.

Each student culminates the program with a comprehensive final project, showcasing their entire skill set and forming a polished portfolio to present to employers.

As a student of this program, you will:

  • Draft accurately by hand and computer, grounding yourself in foundational techniques
  • Read and interpret architectural and mechanical blueprints with precision
  • Understand and apply engineering terminology and industry standard symbols
  • Produce detailed technical drawings for manufacturing or construction projects
  • Prepare production ready documents complete with annotations, dimensions, and detailing per real-world standards

Program Description and Objectives

Drafting and Design

Program Description

Students in the Drafting and Design program will be immersed in a project-based curriculum that may be focused on architectural drafting or mechanical drafting. They will receive one-on-one aid from experienced instructors, review best practices, and focus on industry standards. All courses are computer use intensive and competency based. Students will develop a strong working knowledge of visual communication and its technical skills. Upon completion, students are prepared for entry-level employment and/or further continuing their education.

Attendance Standard: This program has a minimum attendance standard of 75%.

Learning Objectives

  • Develop a general knowledge of the drafting and design industries. Define terminology and processes related to drafting and design. Demonstrate correct sketching techniques.
  • Use visual communication to convey design ideas.
  • Interpret and prepare industry standard documents.
  • Create accurate 2D and 3D models using the state of industry software. Develop drawings that align with industry conventions and standards. Practice redlining and iterating designs.
  • Create physical models.

Testing Requirements

Each program has specific testing score requirements for admission. The scores are listed in the drop-down tabs below. You may be exempt from taking the Accuplacer Entrance Assessment if you provide proof of one or more of the following:

  • Qualifying ACT or SAT scores (see drop-down tabs below)
  • College coursework (MATH 900+ and ENGLISH 1000+) with a grade of B- or higher
  • An Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree
