Dixie Tech’s accredited Biotechnology laboratory technician certificate program is a gateway into this exciting and impactful field. Through hands-on lab training, students learn to manipulate DNA, analyze cells, apply quality control methods, and use real biotech equipment to solve real world problems.

Technicians in this field study and analyze cells, molecules, and other organic materials to uncover solutions across industries from healthcare and agriculture to environmental science and forensics. The Biotechnology program prepares students to enter into the ever-expanding fields of biotechnology laboratory work. The career possibilities are vast, some of which include genomic mapping and research, pharmaceutical and nutraceutical development, biological research and development, and Quality Control and Quality Assurance, as well as other fields within this discipline. The program will give students a foundation of knowledge and skills needed to enter lab technician work or to articulate to another institution to continue their education.
Attendance Standard: This program has a minimum attendance standard of 80%.

- Demonstrate proper laboratory safety protocols
- Use accurate measurements and measuring tools.
- Describe and demonstrate various laboratory, manufacturing, and regulatory practices. Demonstrate proper use of biotechnology lab equipment.
- Analyze and discuss DNA.

TEBI 1010: Fundamentals of Biotechnology – 3 credit hours
TEBI 1020: Laboratory Safety – 1 credit hour
TEBI 1031: Pipette Validation and Technique – 1 credit hour
TEBI 1040: Aseptic Technique – 1 credit hour
TEBI 1050: Chemical Instrumentation and Laboratory Techniques – 3 credit hours
TEBI 1061: Laboratory Calculations – 3 credit hours
TEBI 1070: Quality Control and Manufacturing Practices – 4 credit hours
TEBI 1080: DNA Manipulation and Analysis – 4 credit hours
TEBI 1090: Protein Purification and Analysis – 4 credit hours
TEBI 1900: Externship – 4 credit hours

Education Verification
Provide a copy of one of the following: High School Diploma, High School Transcript showing graduation date, GED, Associate’s Degree, or Bachelor’s Degree.
Testing Requirements
Each program has specific testing score requirements for admission. The scores are listed in the drop-down tabs below. You may be exempt from taking the Accuplacer Entrance Assessment if you provide proof of one or more of the following:
- Qualifying ACT or SAT scores (see drop-down tabs below)
- College coursework (MATH 900+ and ENGLISH 1000+) with a grade of B- or higher
- An Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree
