So many people asked about the ornaments on my Sherlockmas tree, so here's a tutorial, so everyone can have a Sherlock tree of their very own.

Materials needed:
Printer
Paper Mache ornaments
Mod Podge
black craft paint

Here's the type of ornaments you need. You can get them at hobby lobby, they come in several different shapes.

Mod Podge, you can get it at Walmart or Hobby Lobby

Step 1 Paint one side of your paper mache ornament black

Step 2 Print the pic you want out on your printer. Here's a link to the Sherlock graphics.
http://s754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/MrsGreyback/Sherlock%20christmas%20ornament%20printouts/

Step 3 Coat other side of ornament with your Mod Podge and add your pic.

Step 4 Once the pic has dried onto your ornament, coat the top of the pic and the entire ornament with Mod Podge. You're done!

Now that you have your ornaments, you need a few other things to make your tree perfect

Crime scene tape! Brillent stuff, makes a great garland, ribbon for your packages, and if you haven't done your laundry in ages, you can also make yourself a bra out of it. Just like Lady GaGa.

I O U apples You can get a bag of these at Hobby Lobby. Just carve I O U into them and hang them on your tree.

Happy decorating!

Cosplay for houses part 2

I finally finished another part of my Cumber Cave. I'm slowly filling up the place. I got my mom's old recliner, it makes a great replica of Dr. Watson's chair. Thank you babe! I added a few posters, Sherlock's periotic table, the standard "Keep Calm", and a poster of the solar system, since Sherlock deleted that information from his brilliant brain.

The ultimate in home protection! A harpoon!!! Of course, it needed a bit of fake blood to
make it look perfect.

Now this was a great find *G* I was going through my attic and remembered that I had a yard lamp, still in the box, it has been in my attic for about 10 years. So I had the great idea of turning it into a floor lamp, it took about 20 mins to rewire it. I added a
flicker bulb and now I have my very own London gas lamp. *squees* It looks amazing!

Thanks everyone for all the Pandas! I started sending them out to people, and then my LJ kept saying I wasn't allowed to send to anyone's name I put in. They must have had a limit *pouts* and I had a whole list of people, I wanted to send them too.

Other than playing around in my girl cave, I've been up to my eyeballs with helping my youngest with homework every night. Private school is very different from public, and she's getting about 4 hours of homework a night. It's been very stressfull for both of us. Her grades have improved, but they've been earned with lots of tears and misery on her part. Of course when she's upset, I'm upset. I keep telling myself that her education is worth it, but some days, I just want to say fuck it, and put her back in public school. Needless to say, when I'm stressed, I get very antisocial and bitchy, so I tend to stay away from LJ to save everyone from my whining. Hope everyone has been well.

221b Baker Street Cosplay for house part 1
http://dixiebell12.livejournal.com/161527.html

221b Baker Street tutorial
http://dixiebell12.livejournal.com/158322.html

Red Phone box door
http://dixiebell12.livejournal.com/157836.html

Qui was very disappointed, so being the friend that I am, I suggested (Begged and pleaded) to go with her this year and then she can go with her mom in 2014. So I asked the hubby if he minded if I stuck him with the kids for 10 days and fly off to England with Qui, he just gave me the look and said "go have a great time". *squees & dies*

WE"RE GOING TO ENGLAND in FEBRUARY!!!!

We were going to go in May, but it's cheaper in February, way cheaper, it doesn't interfere with Misti-con, and most importantly SHERLOCK will be filming from Jan to April. So you can bet your magnifying glass that we will be trying our best to hunt them down. We also plan to hit every single Sherlock film site, London, Dartmoor, Bristol, and Wales and hopefully see a few friends along the way. I know we'll probably freeze our asses off in Feb, but I look great in a coat, and a scarf hides a double chin, so the pics will be fabulous *G* Now all I have to do before I go is, track down Benedict home address and the film studios in Cardiff.

April - 221B con in Atlanta! I'll see tons of you there and much Sherlocking will ensue. Hopefully Qui and I will be able to pass around pics of us licking Benedict Cumberbatch while we were in England.

May - I'm free for Misti-Con and I'll be going if I can get my "partners in crime" to go. Hopefully I can talk Sbrande and Qui into going, I just can't go without them. It just wouldn't be con, it would be like trying to tell a joke without a punch line, it would really suck.

Aug/Sept - Dragon con!

If the Mayans are right and we all go boom in December, I'm going to be so pissed!

Yeah, I know I need to do a con post, I'll get to it eventually.

Cumber Cave update

Finally making some progress on my Cumbercave (Place to go to think dirty thoughts about Benedict Cumberbatch). I've got the window seat finished except for a tiny piece of trim. Curtains are hung and most of the pillows are made. The window seat goes across the entire back wall, 8ft, so it's a perfect place to sleep and dream dirty dreams about.....you guessed it, Benedict Cumberbatch *G*

I got my bison skull in, I still need to paint him black. Yes I know I put his horns on facing the wrong way, but they pull right of, so it's an easy fix. You might notice that it's sitting on a mantel piece! Yes, my fake fireplace is almost finished! I just need to get a painted fire to put behind it and figure out how to attach it securely to the wall.

I got the cabinets in, and painted and distressed. You can't tell but above the cabinets, I will have a fake concrete facade to match the walls beside my 221b door. I also plan to add an evidence wall, you know with crime photos and red string. My hubby sort of freaked when he found Autopsy reports printed out, but they'll be perfect for my wall. I just can't put anything to graphic, I have a 12yr.

Speaking of the 12yr, I caught her wearing my deerstalker and her coat. The oldest loved HP and now the youngest likes Sherlock, how fitting *G*

I finally got a few of my T-shirt & Iphone case designs up on Red Bubble. I still need to add the Cabin Pressure ones.

http://www.redbubble.com/people/dixiebell/portfolio

Hope everyone is well, I'll be seeing a bunch of you in 35 days!
221b Baker Street door tutorial

    <lj:music>Sherlock Theme</lj:music>

Yes I admit it, I finally went around the twist, but damn I'm having fun *G* Here's my new addition to my exercise room. 221 Bathroom door *squees*

In case you're interested in making your very own 221b Baker Street door, you've come to the right place. This is my first tutorial so I'll try to make it as easy and informative as possible. As for a craft's project, this one looks hard but in fact it's really very easy. If you know how to hammer a few nails, cut a few angles, paint and glue, you can easily do this project.

1. Once you selected the door that you want to Sherlock, you'll need to pull off the old trim/molding and you're going to have to replace it with brick trim/molding. You'll need brick trim because you'll need the extra thickness because the fake concrete facade in about an inch thick.

Brick trim/molding

2. You'll also need a 3/4 inch panel of wood to cut your arch for the top of your door.

3. Time to paint your door, trim, and arch. It's easier to take your door off it's hinges to paint, less mess.

4. While the paint dries, it's time to start on the fake building facade. I used polystyrene foam blue board that you can get at Home Depot or Lowe's. It's really cheap, about $12 a sheet and you'll only need one sheet. Mark out your design with a permanent marker, then use a razor knife to cut it out. For the fake grouting, I didn't cut all the way through, I just cut it about half way. Leave the fake grouting rough, it makes it look more real, once it's painted. I lightly sanded the edges with a sanding block (easier than sand paper). Just think I should mention that this step is messy, all those tiny pieces of foam you sand off will stick to everything, it's just like those packing peanuts. They were even stuck to the walls and my cat, the cat was very annoyed.

5. Time to paint the stone facade. There is a clear plastic sheet attached to the foam, peel that off before you paint. You'll need Rustoleum painter's touch ultra coverage primer. (MAKE SURE IT SAYS, BONDS TO PLASTIC) If you use the wrong primer, it will eat into the foam board, I sadly know this for a fact. Once the primer dries, you'll use Rustoleum Stone textured paint. I used the grey stone color. Both types of paint can be found at Walmart, Lowe's, or Home Depot.

It really looks just like stone *G*

6. Once your door and trim is dry, it's time to hang them. Put the door back up, and Nail up your new brick molding. If you have a nail gun, it's makes it so much easier, if not, use finishing nails. If you blunt the tips of the nails first, it will not split your trim, handy little tip I learned. If you can't cut the angles for your door trim yourself, take your door measurements into Lowes and Home Depot when you buy your trim and they will cut it for you. Do not hang the rounded arch yet.

7. Now to make your fake glass window above the door. I used a very thin sheet of plexiglass and cut it the exact shape of my rounded arch. I then cut a piece of brown craft paper the same size as well, I drew my design onto the brown paper. I placed the plexiglass over the brown paper and traced the design with liquid leading. It can be bought at Hobby Lobby and it's in the stain glass section. Then I let it dry over night.

8. Attach wooden rounded arch above the door with wood screws. Now that your fake glass is dry, lay it against the wood and take another wood screw and screw it into the wood but NOT through the plexiglass (it will crack). You want just the edge of the screw to catch the glass so it can't fall, not too tight or it will crack, you want it tight enough to hold it in place but loose enough that you can remove it when the glass needs to be cleaned. The bottom of the glass will rest on the top of your door frame, so one screw is all you'll need to hold it in place. You might not can tell in my pictures but the plexiglass really makes it look like a real window. My ceiling is painted like the sky, so it reflexes in the glass and it makes you feel like you're really standing outside. It's a really cool effect.

9. Attaching the fake concrete facade. I used several finishing nails and hammered them all over the wall on each side of the door. I nailed them deep enough that they wouldn't pop through the foam board, but left enough sticking out to anchor the foam board to the wall. I covered the foam boards with wood glue and lined them up on the wall and used just my fist to hammer them onto the nails. Don't hit it too hard or you will damage your fake facade.

10. The only thing left to do is attached your door hardware, like your numbers and doorknocker. My hubby added the letter slot, you have to cut a hole through the door, so if I had to do it myself, I'd skip it. The neighbors could have probably heard him swearing from down the street. I think that was the hardest part of the entire project.

11. Touch up your paint, and you're done. Time to kick back and imagine Sherlock and John walking through your door and joining you for a cuppa :)

Notes:
1. The foam board is a must have for any crafter. That stuff is amazing and cheap! You can glue sheets of it together and sand it down into unbelievable shapes for all kinds of projects. I've seen people make valances for window treatments, headboards, you name it, it could probably be made with foam board. I am seriously tempted to make Sherlock's fireplace out of it, when my hubby calms down a bit about the mail slot :)

2. With just plexiglass and liquid leading, you can make all kinds of stain glass projects. Union Jack wind chimes, Sherlock silhouette stained glass, etc. You can also buy colored stain glass paint for projects at hobby lobby.

3. If you happen to use my tutorial, please let me know, so I can squee and celebrate with you when you're finished. If you have any questions, I'll be glad to help.

4. My husband refused to let me make a hobbit hole door......%$^$#%^&...... I guess I'll annoy him about that project later *pouts*

It took me at least a month but I finally finished my British phone box door for Sonia's home away from home/exercise room. *squees* Not bad considering I've never used a chop saw before, but it was practically blond proof and I still have all my fingers. The corners are mostly straight :)

Covering the pattern in the door was the hardest part.

I used one of those floating ceiling tiles, painted it black with chalkboard paint, then framed it with molding. Making the grid was took forever, all those angled cuts was a PITA.

I did cheat and make my hubby hang the door back up, I figured I earned that reprieve *G* He did ask if all the red on the garage floor was paint or blood, so I made him count my fingers just to be sure.

I'm half way finished with the bathroom door, in the exercise room, it's going to be 221B Baker Street.

Hopefully everyone had a safe and wonderful holiday.

I ended up with a few uninvited guests, but no unwelcome dogs this year. We ended up with 31 people on Christmas Eve, but no fights broke out, and no one was burnt or maimed, so I'll call it a success. With my family, you just never know. Everyone finally left around 8, so I enjoyed the rest of the evening snuggled up on the couch watching The Vicar of Dibley, while the hubby played Skyrim.

The kids woke us at 8am *groans* and we exchanged gifts. My hubby got me a Ipad, and a farting hippo (Abbey's farting hippo from NCIS). So now I can use my Ipad to facetime, and blame all the farting noises on the hippo. After the kids were finished complaining, I went back to bed until it was time to eat lunch with my parents. Then I spend the rest of the day with my pants unbuttoned wondering why I ate so damn much. I hope I never see another ham or turkey ever again!

I'm sad that this Christmas season went by so fast, but kind of glad too. After Christmas means time to start planning for con season *squees*

Now some pic spam

My tree made it through without being destroyed by Yum Yum this year. He would pull some
down with his teeth and the others got the paws. Some of my precious cards have teeth marks now :(

I want to thank everyone for all the wonderful cards! I'm afraid I'll leave someone out by naming you all individually. I loved each and everyone of them. Hopefully everyone has gotten my card by now, I know Sonia hasn't gotten hers yet but she lives in ass backwards Australia.
About this time 21 years ago, I was saying "I do".

We were just babies!

Sorry I've been neglecting LJ, I've been so busy lately. I've been renovating my husbands shop and turning it into my very own Room of Requirement. Now Sonia will have her own mini apartment when she stays. I'll post pics soon.

It's getting that time of year....CHRISTMAS! So I've been cleaning and getting ready to hang lights *squees*. I'll be making my Christmas card post in a few days. Qui will be coming out soon so we can work on our Christmas cards together, it's tradition. *G* I haven't the slightest idea on how to top last years, suggestions are welcome. I'm seriously considering buying Fenrir a Santa suit for the occasion.

Mostly I've been fighting with my daughter. She's a senior this year, which is hard to believe. She's also taking English 101 with University of Alabama, online, so she can get a bit ahead. She's doing really well and making a 4.0 in all her classes even her college course. The problem I'm having with her is she doesn't understand why we can't afford to pay her college when "everyone else's parents" are paying for theirs. She believes like most teens, money grows on trees, and that we should do without everything and she should get a free ride. If there was a way I could pay for it, I would, but we have paid for 13 years of private school, and now her sister will be going back into the private school system, and we have to pay for hers. Hayley doesn't want to have to pay back a student loan, and instead of getting off her ass and studying for her ACT, she blew it. She got a 23, and I know damn well she could have done a lot better and could have gotten a scholarship and a free ride. So now she's taking it all out on me and making me feel like the worst fucking parent on the face of the Earth. She's mostly a great kid, she has never given us any problems, always did excellent in school and we've spoiled her because of her good behavior and now it's biting us in the ass. I love her and she's my world, but I don't like her very much at the moment.

Ghost Busting in Boston
A lot of you know that we went to Boston after the con, to stay in the haunted Omni Parker Hotel, I guess it's finally time to post about it. When we got to the hotel we were extremely pleased with it's creepy atmosphere, it looked like something out of "The Shinning". We stayed in the most haunted room they had on the third floor, it was the room where most of the ghostly activity had been reported, or so they said. We armed ourselves with an EMF detector, flashlights and a video recorder, and set off in the search for Harvey Parker's ghost.
www.omnihotels.com/Exclusiveoffers/HauntedTravelsParkerHouse.aspx

FART detector!

We never saw his ghost, but we did have some questionable occurrences. Our EMF detector went from safe to caution when we were in the stairwell and stayed that way all the way back to our room. We turned it off and on several times on the way back, but it remained on caution. Maybe something followed us back to our room! We went back to the exact same spot later and the EMF detector stayed on safe, so maybe it was an encounter with "something". I also got a great picture of an orb in the hallway. The creepiest occurrence was the elevator stopping on the third floor, after hitting the lobby button. When the doors opened, no one was there!

Candyman! Candyman! Candyman!

The people at the Omni we're awesome, they didn't even blink, when we told them we were going ghost hunting. They gave us a sheet of paper that listed all the places in the hotel that had had sightings. We stalked up and down the stairs, down the halls, and through the lobby til 3 AM with our flashlights and our detector and they'd just wave, as we went by.

Mrs. Harvey Parker

It was finally time to call it a night, so we went to bed around 4am. We had red flashlights set up around the room and the video camera running, just in case we had a ghostly visitor in the night. Sonia was out like a light, but Qui and I made shadow puppets on the wall and laughed ourselves stupid. We finally settled down a bit and I was just about to drift off when Qui whispered "Redrum", which promptly started another giggling fit. After 30 minutes of whispering quotes from "The shining" we both drifted of to sleep. We were startled awake when Sonia snorted loudly in her sleep, and Qui and I both screamed. It scared the shit out of me and I almost fell out of the bed! With all the screaming, it woke Sonia up, trust me guys, you NEVER want to accidentally wake that bitch up *G* She's even scarier than Harvey Parker.

<lj-embed id="110" />
<lj-embed id="111" />Youtube link

Day 2

Getting up that morning wasn't very fun, not that Qui and I had any choice. We were hung over, tired, and still wanted a couple of hours more sleep, but Sonia is a morning person (#$*&%^*#), she was up, ripping the curtains open and was ready to go. So, she dragged our lazy asses out of bed and we started getting ready to debut brand new costumes *squees*

Snatchers!

Finally a new costume that I love as much as my Death Eater. I had been thinking about cosplaying an Auror and I had sent a bunch of pics of various coats to Sonia. I got a reply, "Hell no, those are Snatcher coats", I hit the buy button quickly after that. Unfortunately that left Qui out because she had been planning to go as Luna on Friday, so we quickly resolved that by beating the crap out of her and dragging her around as a "snatched" Luna. It worked perfectly, although we do hope she cosplays a Snatcher with us at the next con.

We really didn't do much that day. We hung out with maria_lynette and she took pictures of the 3 of us in the woods running around as Snatchers. Then we went around snatching various people. Sonia even found a list and was asking people their name and then she consulted the list. We never did find Potter though or, come to think about it, get our reward for bringing Luna in. Those bastard, cheap ass Malfoy's wouldn't pay.

Snatchers prowling the woods looking for blonds and random victims to snatch and claim our reward.

And Luna thought she was having a bad day when her Daddy's Erumpant Horn blew up killing all her pet Nargles, her day is about to get must worse.

Luna looks towards the heavens praying for assistance from the Nargles

Luna was hit by a spell and pretended to be dead, but Scabior knew better.

Luna had no idea that the smell of her Plimpy perfume would be such a turn on for Scabior. The horror on her face as she realized she was going to have to buy "normal" perfume for now on.

After playing around in the woods for a while, we decided to go bug the staff about allowing us to have a bonfire on the beach. The beach was a no go, but they gave us permission to have it at the fire pit across the street. So the four of us went in search of firewood and marshmallows, once they were bought we started inviting everyone we came across.

We hung out in Droxy's, Irish, Deb and Juni's room till it was time to light up the bonfire. While Qui, Maria and I slaved away trying to start the damn fire, that bitch Sonia was getting a massage from Irish....how bloody unfair was that!!!! I could have gotten one and she could have lit the fire, the unfairness of it all :(

We had scheduled it for 11pm so it hopefully wouldn't interfere with anyone else's programming. Most people started streaming in around Midnight.
Con post #1

Another con has come and gone. They do go by too quickly. It was wonderful seeing everyone again and meeting tons of new people. There were lots of people that weren't there and their presence was truly missed. I won't start naming them, I'm scared I'll forget someone.

Day 1#

Sonia and I were lucky enough to get on the same flight as Qui, so we met up at the Dallas airport. We had fun on the plane just laughing and catching up on everything. We rented a car in Boston and drove to Laconia blasting "Sweet Home Alabama" on the Cd player.

Once we got to our hotel room we started looking up everyone. Then we hit the fashion show, where some of the costumes were just fantastic. After the fashion show we went to Mollyssister's room and she made us some fabulous drinks we have now christened as "blue shit". Which I had way too much of :)

We then went strolling along the pier and lake that was directly outside our door. We met up with Janus and Janet and got progressively more and more drunk. We all stumbled into bed at 2:30pm. It was a memorable first night at the con.

Qui had to start drinking early to be able to put up with flying with Sonia.

I behaved myself and didn't tell Qui the plane was going to crash this time. Okay, I did tell her the pilot might be drunk *G*

I think the air hostess took pity on Qui, and gave her two drinks instead of the one. *snickers*

Look! I'm in a dress. See Sonia, I told you I am a girl. She still doesn't believe me though.

Luna has been eating the Plimpy bait again!

mollyssister serves up some really nice 'blue shit' and Sonia thinks so too :)

Luna isn't a Garden Gnome, I don't know what pyjamapants was thinking!

*squees* It's that time of year again!!!! Qui will be driving down in a couple of days and we'll be taking out the costumes and the cameras and taking Christmas card photos. I haven't the slightest idea what we'll get up too this year, but last years card turned out awesome and it is going to be hard to beat, but we'll try *G* So if you want one, leave your name and address, I'll screen them. Don't worry if you're over seas, we'll still send them. Doesn't matter if I barely know you either, I am a Christmas junkie and I love sending cards.

Dix & Qui Christmas 2009

Back on line finally, DSL has been down since Friday morning :( At least I managed to get some art done and I've started packing for Orlando.

Title: The Master and His Mistress
Artist:Dixiebell
Pairing:Snape and Hermione
Warning: None
Notes: Done with Photoshop CS3, 12 layers, various filters, and a lot of swearing. Still couldn't get her damn hands right.

What started out as the worst damn weekend turned out to be an awesome one, even without being able to get online.

My hubby got tickets for us to see Jeff Dunham for our anniversary. We first saw him when we were dated 20 years ago, when he was a nobody.

My dad told me he'd pay for my entire Disney trip, if I took my niece *squees*. I didn't tell him I had already paid for it, I took the money anyway, now my con will be paid for.

My mother must have done really well at the Casino boats, she called yesterday morning and told me to start planning for Europe again, next summer. So I'll be babysitting her in England again and hopefully Berlin. I also want to take her to see Giverny in France, she loves Monet and that's his home and where he painted his famous water lily pics.

Sorry if I missed anyone's post, I'll try to get caught up.
