I finally had to un-friended someone on Facebook. I'm really very relaxed about letting others have their opinions, but this particular person (who I've known 20 years) started spewing venom about how it's a SIN to be gay and that gays are "the EBIL that will DOOM our great nation". (alright, I mighta paraphrased that, but it was obnoxious) He's a preacher, guess he was absent from class on the day they taught the verses on NOT JUDGING OTHERS and that in America there's this thing called separation of church and State.

Normally I'd try to re-educate my ex-friend, but I didn't want to do that on Facebook and invite a debate with trolls.

Sorry for venting. I'm wholly of the opinion that no one's sexual preferences are anyone's business until they are sleeping with you. I've learned never to assign a gender/race/socioeconomic background/religion, etc. to anyone I've "met" online (who hasn't freely revealed that info), and normally I keep my own undisclosed. But here it is: White, female, straight, Appalachian, raised apostolic. I'm thrilled to have made friends from various background and preferences. And if any of my FList on LJ feels that being gay is a hallmark of evil....please unfriend me, kthxbai.

My birthday is Saturday, and I'm taking tomorrow off work to go gambling in Biloxi at the Hard Rock Casino. This morning when I got to work I found my desk covered in cards, flowers, balloons, and chocolate chip pancakes with a side of bacon. The best part was that along with my "40" balloon, I got a Captain America balloon. Having coworkers who accept (and embrace) my dork side made my year.

I'd like to do something fanish for my birthday, anyone got pairings or prompts to share?

Anyone want one?

I've got separate e-mail accounts for "real life" and fandom life, how do you handle the mix? I work in a very conservative office and it would be potentially bad to have some of my fandom postings cross over into real life.

On Facebook I only have RL friends with the exception of one person from lj. I'd like to connect more to my fandoms, but I really don't need my family and co-workers knowing my smutty reading/writing habits.

I recently started using the Swagbucks reward program, after hearing good things about it on Personal Finance blogs. I figure any "earnings" would go toward buying Christmas presents.   So far I've made enough to get a couple of small paypal gift cards, and I've only been at it for 5 days.

One of the ways to earn points is to use Swagbucks search function. I have it on my toolbar and I type in whatever I'm looking for on the web and it will randomly award you points based on your searches. To claim the points you must type in the random 3 letter code given to prove you're human.     Yesterday my highest earning search was for "Jason Todd".   Yes, even Swagbucks knows how awesome Jason is, and awarded me 24 points.   The highest I've ever received from a search.

Also, my confirmation code was "YRP", which made this Final Fantasy X-2 fangirl giggle.   At least until I realized that now I have the "Real Emotion" song stuck in my head.

It appears that one of my e-mail addresses may have been hacked.   Not one that is in anyway connected to my online fandom life, but for the duration (of the divorce), I will be f-locking this journal.

I also seem to have locked myself out of my e-mail functions on my cell phone.   Technology and I have a love/hate relationship.

In the "win" column, I just got my first electric bill at the new place, and it's $60 LESS than I estimated. The cable bill was $21 less. How much does that translate to in comic book buying power?   Answer, not much right now since I'm saving for a trip to Orlando in January.

Another possible win, I'm taking a grocery budget challenge this month.   I'm trying to feed myself using only the amount of money that the average person on SNAP (food stamps) would receive in my state.   That's $143 in Florida. If you want to read about the challenge it's from www.thenonconsumeradvocate.com.   It's purpose is to raise awareness on food issues in this country.

Depends on what mood I'm in, those are very different genres.

Criminal Minds, it's been on a lot longer.

That would be easy, each show has a character that's a former Navy Seal.

Moving day is Saturday

Moving is a pain. I've spent all morning getting utilites disconnected, connected and transfered. I'm moving west by 1 county, so only my electric bill stayed with the same people. Cell service and car insurance are still with the same companies, but my ex paying those bills and then I'll pay him, until our service contracts are up.

Good news is that I'm getting more freaking channels than I will ever watch, and the fastest internet option. Better news is that I'm paying less than if I'd ordered the lower tier services. I resisted their urging to order a home phone line as well. I could have saved another $2, but then I'd need to go buy a phone and answering machine.

Now I'm changing my address with everyone I've ever done business with... fun times.

I finally found a new place to rent. The townhouse I'm going to move into is only 4 miles from work versus the 18 I'm currently commuting. It's supposedly 2 bedroom, 1 bath, but there are french doors leading into the second bedroom, so I'm making that the den. Bedrooms and closets are bigger than what I have now, so that's always nice. Some of the fixtures are a little dated, like the huge mirror over the fireplace and the laminate cabinets. But it is in a safe neighborhood. And there's a garage and a community pool.

Sorry for the rambling, but I'm just a little excited to start this next phase of my life.

Husband (soon to be ex) found an apartment, and he has this week off, so we've been moving his things. In exchange, once I find a new place, he will help me move the heavy things.   I've transferred the electric to my name already, and the water will be next. I attempted to fix the cable/internet situation this morning and I'm afraid I just screwed it up.   The current cable/net is in my name, but I wanted them to take off the HDTV/Movie channel packages.   Cable company wanted to charge me a cancellation fee for early termination.   Turns out my current package ends in 4 days, but I can't cancel until then. Seriously?    I'm considering internet only, and dropping cable.   Fanfic is usually better than the regular programing, and no one on TV ever replies to my comments.

Without that talking box to distract me, maybe I'll find time to write again.   Better yet, is there a online comic subscription archive that I can lose myself in for a month?    I gave up on DCU after the event that will not be discussed.

Long Overdue RL Post

Maybe you've noticed that I've been missing for awhile, maybe not. Here's the shortest explanation, and promise I won't mind if you skip it and get back to your own life.

My life went kinda sideways about last December for many reasons, and the end result is that I'm separating from my husband. It's possibly the most amicable divorce ever, but it's been still stressful.   I'm in the process of downsizing my belongings, probably going from a 3 bedroom house to an 1 bedroom apartment.

Somewhere in the sorting process I came across the concept of minimalism.   I'll never be one of those "100-possessions only mimimalists", but I could really do with a lot less.   Not to mention that selling all my extra stuff could make a difference in the quality of my new life.    (Or fund a trip to comic con)

The local consignment shop is already tired of seeing me, I've taken them 3 carloads of clothes.   I have 3 weeks before my major purging event - YARDSALE 2011.

But then there are things that I don't think I could sell, and I'm not sure where to donate them, or even why I have them.   So from time to time I might post things on here that are up for grabs.

Today it's postcards / and random pictures of flowers. 76 postcards from places I've visited or lived, and probably twice that many pictures of flowers, landscape or puppies.

Any takers?    Just PM me with your address.

PS. There are a couple of you I still owe holiday cards to, which I did find in my card file. How do you feel about Christmas in May/June?    And Gloria - I found the box of material! Would your mom want any extra material I have on hand?
