Registration Process

• All registration will be conducted online
• Returning students will register through Skyward Family Access
• New students will register through the district website (valid email address required)

Required Documentation

• K-5th grade returning students: Must provide current proof of residency (due to new boundaries)
• 6th-12th grade returning students: No proof of residency needed if residing at same address
• All new PreK-12th grade students: Must provide current proof of residency

Important Deadlines

• All students must register by August 1, 2026, to avoid:
  • Potential delays in start date
  • Delays in district transportation assignments
  • Delays in class schedule distribution

First Day of School

Grades 1-12: August 12, 2026
PreK-K: August 17, 2026

Grades K-12

New students,  visit the New Student Registration page to start. 

Returning students (currently attending DeKalb District 428 schools) log in to Skyward Family Access to complete returning student registration online form. For more information, visit the Returning Student Registration page. 

For 2025-2026 School Year Grades K-12

Applications for the 2025-2026 school year will be accepted through May. Visit the new student registration page to start. 

Early Learning Development Center (ELDC)

If you are interested in enrolling a student into our ELDC PreKindergarten program, contact the ELDC Office at 815-754-2361 to schedule a screening appointment BEFORE submitting an application. PreK and early childhood students must be screened and qualify prior to submitting an application. • Computers are available at the Education Center, at your child’s school, and the DeKalb Public Library for registration, if needed.
• You can also use your student's Chromebook and login using your family access login ID and password in Skyward. Please contact your child’s school if you need assistance with your Skyward Family Access login and password information.
• Assistance is also available for families needing English translation.
