Discovery Pro overview

Experience Discovery Pro, the ultimate virtual analog synthesizer and sampler. With 4 layers, 12 oscillators, WAV, SFZ and SoundFont support, 2X to 16X oversampling, PADSynth re-synthesis, and Nord Lead 2 SysEx import/export, Discovery Pro offers endless sound creation options. Its arpeggiator, 16 filter types (including Nord Lead 2 and Moog filters), panning modulation, stereo delay, gate and step modulation effects provide unmatched control. Discovery Pro is perfect for any music production.

What's new in version 8.23

  • New Features

    • Full multicore voice rendering: the dual-core engine introduced in 8.17 now scales to every available CPU core. A new cross-layer voice thread pool shares active voices across all cores instead of just two, so heavy patches — high polyphony, multiple layers, oversampling — get far more headroom, reaching for the CPU protection ladder later and keeping more of the notes you play.

  • Improvements

    • Reorganized edit menu: Copy, Paste, Randomize, Reset and Unison are now grouped under a single Edit submenu, with paired Layer/Program items and consistent labelling. Rename moved to the top level for quicker access.

    • Snapshot-based undo/redo for menu and preset edits, so layer Copy/Paste/Randomize/Reset and preset changes can be stepped back and forward.

    • Standard keyboard shortcuts for edit, layer and file operations.

    • Layer right-click menu adds Copy, Paste, Randomize and Reset.

    • Native, DPI-aware text dialogs on Windows for renaming, saving and creating folders, so prompts render crisply at every interface size instead of using the non-scaling fallback.

    • Faster, audibly transparent PADsynth rendering: the resynthesis engine is vectorized for an additional speedup while matching the reference algorithm below the 16-bit floor.

    • Optimized the Advanced Limiter (multi-band mode) with SIMD processing for lower CPU usage.

    • GUI improvements: assorted interface refinements and visual consistency fixes.

  • Bug Fixes

    • Fixed a crash when switching presets quickly with PADsynth layers. Rendering now runs in the background with a "Rendering…" indicator instead of blocking the interface.

    • Fixed a crash on close while a PADsynth render was still in progress.

I'm thoroughly chuffed with Discovery Pro 8. Its sound quality is top-notch, brimming with richness and clarity. The support for WAV files and nifty resampling features are quite the boon for creative sound design. Impressively, I can easily run up to 128 voices per core on my M1 Mac Studio and the extensive library of presets caters brilliantly to any genre. It's becoming an indispensable asset in my studio.

Discovery was ones a very good vsti plugin. It sounds great and emulates the Nord Lead synths nicely but sadly it cannot cope with the rest of the bunch nowadays. There are now definitely much better alternatives (read: way way way better) and much cheaper too. On a side note: Discovery also requires much more CPU power compared to others. Some sounds even bog my i7 at 80%. I suggest looking at D16 Lush101 synth. It is cheaper and produces incredible sounds (better compared to Discovery). Conclusion: first look at all the (free and payed) alternatives before paying for this.

About twenty years ago I owned a original Nord Lead 1 It was a great VA-synth that sounded really analog enough to fool many ears. NL2 and most certainly NL3 aren't very good imo and so is this VST plugin. It just sounds too digital to me. For me there is only one really good VST plugin doing incredibly analog emulations : B16 Lush101 Its less expensive then Discovery Pro and way better sounding.

Very good vsti but too expensive. I like the Nord Lead patch import. Please consider a lower price.

Come on guys, it's not shareware when it's nearly $200! Next you'll be claiming Office or Photoshop is shareware too! It's commercial software & should be listed as such.
