Moving Announcement

Hey Discedo, Cat here with the deets on how this whole moving thing will go down. First off moving and moving to Dreamwidth specifically won by majority in the polls. And while we know it was by a slim majority and won't sit well with everyone, we have decided for several reasons to switch to a community style game during this move.

Dreamwidth friending is slightly different from Livejournal friending. Moving is going to be enough of a hassle without getting into that. Switching to community style also means we won't have to compile a completely new friend add list from scratch and wait to make certain we have everyone's journals and that everyone has everyone else added and added properly before the game can really kickstart on Dreamwidth. Basically it'll be easier to move and move faster. There were several things we really wanted to do in January that have been pushed back due to all the mess examples being the game feed back meme and a plot for reclaiming canon pets (something we've been asked about for a few months now). So we really like the idea of being able to hit the ground running with the move.

After some thought we'd also like to cut down on the amount of modding duties there are in the game. While Discedo isn't the biggest game or the most active in apps and drops, maintaining the friend add/remove page, the weekly updates and the Discedo friends list does take time away from other things we'd like to focus on such as plots, Scientist activity and Spectavi. We will be holding an app round soon where players can volunteer to be either full-time mods or helper mods (they'll help out with one or two mod tasks such as Spectavi or maybe even NPCing a Scientist and will be more than welcome to throw their opinion in on any other modding going on if they have a suggestion, but we won't require them to help out with plots, applications, mod decisions, etc like we would a full-time mod), but for now we'd like to cut down on the amount of work there is to do. Another part of the reason is that I never intended to be a permanent mod and am hoping to step down some time within the next few months so the less jobs to pass around there are the easier this'll be to do.

In the future when the modteam is in a better position to keep on top of the game and if a majority of the game wants it, we may switch back to a journal style game, but for now we'd like to try community style.

This all being said here's how the move's going to go down:

Moving
*All mod posts will now go in Discedo_OOC. We will be importing the discedo posts there and all mod posts will be tagged !mod: [whatever the tag was on Discedo] for easy sorting.

*All network/journal posts will now go in Discedo. Our current plan is to have several tags as follows:
  »A tag for characters. This will be the character's name and used to tag all posts the character makes as well as posts they reply to (so Squall's tag would be "squall leonhart"). We know other games make tags for posts and replies different, but considering you can always add ?poster=NameOfJournalHere to bring up all posts by a journal in a community we don't see the need to differentiate. As an example if you go to http://discedo-ooc.livejournal.com/?poster=paradoxdestined you will find all of the posts made by my Squall journal in discedo_ooc. This also works on Dreamwidth so to see all posts by my Squall journal in Dreamwidth discedo_ooc community you would do http://discedo-ooc.dreamwidth.org/?poster=random-rule

  »Tags for location. Discedo has a lot of action spam and due to having multiple locations now with travel time inbetween this can get a bit complicated. You will now be able to tag your threads with *location: discedo, *location: dissimulo and *location: spero (feel free to use multiple ones if your character's action spamming over multiple cities).

  »Tags for post type. You will be able to tag your post with *post: audio, *post: video and *post: text. Again you can use multiple tags on one post. This is mainly for those whose character(s) can't ICly access one or the other (example: Toph's blind, characters who can only understand German, etc).

Tagging your posts will not be mandatory (though appreciated by your fellow players). We will not hunt you down if you don't use the tag system. This system is also not set in stone, if anyone feels these tags won't work for whatever reason, would like a more simple/complex system or feels they should be styled differently drop us a comment and we'll take it into consideration!

*The game will officially move over to Dreamwidth on the 21st. Until then players can continue posting on LJ or start posting on DW. On the 21st we will close down all the game comms to new posts and no longer upkeep the friend add. All play will be officially moved over to the DW comms on that day.

*We have a new player plotting community, instead of playmyace all player organization posts can now go in oldmanhangout. Due to Dreamwidth's sticky feature we will finally be able to keep a list at the top of the community with links to all IC organization posts (watch, hopsital staff, cafe alpha, etc). That can be found here.

*There will be no activity check February 1st-7th. Essentially if you weren't active in January for whatever reason you're getting a pass. This will also not increase anyone's hiatus count so no worries (it will also not reset your count though, if you've hiatused through the past two AC's you will need to pass the one March 1st-7th). We will still be holding the next plotting meme on the 8th of February though.

*We have a list of moving steps made up (located below). If you'd like to stay with the game we need you to complete them to still be counted as part of the game on Dreamwidth. Nothing spectacular just the basics of joining the comms and giving us your updated info. If we don't get this info from you by the 4th of February we'll assume you made an informal drop and open your character back up to being apped.

What we need from you:
1) Make journals for all your characters on Dreamwidth. They do not have to be the same usernames, pick whatever you'd like. Currently Dreamwidth journal creation is open, but if they turn back on invite codes between now and February 4th, contact us and we'll get you one.
2) Go to Discedo, Discedo_Logs, Discedo_OOC and OldManHangout and join with your journals.
3) Go to the Contact Page and reply with your contact info then go to (or alternatively skip to if you don't want to supply the former) the Taken List and fill out the form to give us your new info.
4) Give yourself a pat on the back for making a successful transition to Dreamwidth.

WEATHER: JANUARY 10 - JANUARY 16

DISCEDO Bask in the sun while it shines because on the evening of the 12th, clouds will begin to darken the skies once again. Throughout JAN 13th, ice and snow will rain down on the city. Through the 14th and 15th, snow will continue to fall, leaving behind about 8 inches of snow.

DISSIMULO Will get a bit of a warning before the snow hits. Gusts of wind will travel south west at speeds up to 30mph. There will be no skipping out on the ice this time around. In fact, Dissimulo's residents may notice more hail and ice than snow. However, the snow will evenly fall from mid-day Jan 14th and taper off through the 15th.

SPERO Snow snow snow! Spero will get the tail-end of the ice storm and see more snow flurries during the 13th. The snow with thicken on the 14th and after the 15th will have about as much snow fall as Discedo.

DISCEDO More snow flurries this week. If that wasn't enough, the winds will send a chill down your spine. JAN 4th will have the strongest of gusts, giving everyone an extra difficult time than usual.

DISSIMULO Residents will notice the sun just doesn't want to come out from the clouds again this week. The winds will also carry on through the week, harsher the further west characters travel.

SPERO No special snowflakes for Spero. It's weather will imitate Discedo's closely throughout the week.

December Activity Check!

December Activity Check

As a reminder, the requirements have been lowered due to the state that LJ is in!

This check is for all activity from the month of December. Any posts or threads done between the first of December and the 8th of January can be used for it. The activity check will run from January 1st through January 7th. You have until 11:59 PM EST January 7th to check in with all of your characters. Characters who do not meet AC requirements within the allotted time will be removed from the game.

New characters accepted from the most recent acceptance round (December 25th) and after will be exempt from this activity check.

You may hiatus through 2 consecutive ACs. After that it is required you pass the next one.

In the event you will not be around for an AC you may always give your AC requirements to the modteam ahead of time.

A reminder will be posted about the check on January 5th listing characters who have not checked in and are in danger of being removed from the game. The activity check ends on January 8th.

How did this happen..."

Jacqueline's hand tightened on the back of Kevin's chair as he bent over the computer keyboard, fingers flying. Neither one of them had ever been good at hiding their nerves. "Can you fix it?"

The question of the hour. Or five minute intervals to be precise. Kevin was growing tired of it himself. "How am I supposed to fix this?!"

His hands shook. This was hardly a game of checkers, lives were on the line. "S-sorry. I mean, this wasn't--" He paused taking a moment to correct his glasses. "I'll see what I can do."

Typing faster than before his eyes ran up and down the rapidly changing monitor before him. "But this is completely out of control... Maybe I can..."

From behind him Jacqueline started, eyes fixated to the screen just as avidly as his. "The chips...?" It was possible, but-

"If I have this right I can make it so they can see them. Everyone with a chip gets a little upgrade, nothing... too hard..." A few more key taps and he hit send.

"There! Now they're not completely blind." He couldn't help, but lean back in his chair in relief. One crisis mildly... ... ...mollified. "Haven't they learned those things are useful yet?! Whatever, just-- It'll work."

A pause.

"...I hope."

WEATHER: DECEMBER 27 - JANUARY 2

DISCEDO The sun has decided to visit once again, but just long enough to help melt last week's frozen-over snow. Don't get too comfortable, as it'll snow the beginning of next week. Careful, the snow will be bringing along some ice as reinforcements.

DISSIMULO Unfortunately, won't be seeing as much sun as the other two cities. The skies will break out in small snow flurries on the evening of DEC 28, but will be gone by morning. The sun will peek out shortly before most snow on DEC 31st.

SPERO Nothing too different from Discedo, except Spero will experience this week's weather a few hours before Discedo does.

Livejournal, Plot Posting and AC Announcements

Just another update to keep everyone informed on what's going on with the game due to the state of LJ.

Livejournal
There will be a poll put up on January 4th to decide if discedo should move and if so which site (Dreamwidth, Insanejournal, Scribbld, etc). This poll will last one week and close January 11th at 12:01am EST.

Posting for the Current Plot
We will allow people to RP on other sites for this plot. While we encourage everyone to use LJ if at all possible to keep the game from becoming spread out and players left out, if the site is simply not working for you (load times are abnormally long, pages simply won't load, etc) you can set up a thread on a site somewhere else to play things out. We do ask all posts be posted to your game LJ though. If you want to set up a mirror post on DW or IJ or wherever you're more than free, but make sure to link it in your post. The same with threads, if you set up a post and someone wants to reply, but LJ isn't working for them so you thread it out on DW instead please try to remember to leave a comment on your original LJ post with a link to the DW thread. You may also use the log comm to post links to threads on other sites just use the same header as normal with a link to the thread rather than the usual cut text. We realize it's extra work, but we'd like to to keep the game as inclusive as possible while still keeping plot participation open to all players.

December Activity Check
Due to the state LJ's in (and is looking to remain in for the rest of the month) we will be lowering the requirements for the AC that will take place January 1st through January 7th to 10 comments per character. Each thread is still required to be in a different post. You may use threads played out on other sites as long as they're game threads. We're asking you keep on the honor system here though. If you made a post and threaded out SusyQ's reply on DW, please don't link to both your DW thread with SusyQ and a thread from your LJ post as they're both threads replying to the same post.

If you are on hiatus or considering hiatusing through this AC please make sure your estimated return date covers through the AC period (January 7th). When checking for hiatuses we go by the date you have listed, if you list your return date as January 2nd, but are actually still on hiatus through the 7th we will not be aware of this and go by your return date. This means you would be marked as not checking in and dropped from the game at the end of AC. If this happens to you you may always talk to us to reclaim your character, but please try to avoid it altogether by keeping your hiatus return date up-to-date. Even if you're not certain you'll entirely miss an AC, we'd rather you be safe and hiatus through the AC period than not and miss it. You may always turn in AC requirements ahead of time or while on hiatus if you have them as well.

Solstice Plot

It's going to be a long night Fortuna.

The Winter Solstice for Fortuna is approaching and will take place on December 26th. Typically the longest night of the year, this one will be darker and deeper than perhaps any of Fortuna's ragtag residents have previously known. The cold will be biting deep in a way that overcomes all clothes. Even fires and supernatural powers can't keep this chill from stealing right into your bones. And the next day...

The sun won't rise. Prepare for some overlasting night Fortuna. Who knows, maybe the dark won't be all that bad. ...Right?

Through the 29th characters will find themselves growing depressed, increasingly so. Warmth, cheer, hope; all of these feelings will become harder and harder to hold onto. It seems as if all the things you can remember lately are the bad ones. How you failed this or suffered through that, how there's not one single redeeming thing about this world. This life. If you're not careful you might even... become a little suicidal.

Of course. One of you will know what's going on. He'll see the signs as well as the "faces" to your grief. He might even tell you! Regardless whether he does or not though on the 30th all of you with chips will be able to see what he sees:

Dementors.

Soul-sucking fiends with the intent of feeding off all your happiness and leaving every man, woman and child in a state of absolute despair. Think you can handle this threat, Fortuna?

Dementors can't be killed but they can be driven off. For a time. On the 31st every character will receive a private message on their communicator with one of three maps attached depending on their current location.

"And within the bottom of the box lay one final ill."

At each location characters will find a plain, simple wooden box with a familiar looking note attached. Use this H O P E. Strange... Yet are you really going to question it?

While you do ponder be careful. The longer you're around each box, the more you'll attract the dementors. Wait too long and they'll come at you in waves. One might even attempt to give you a little kiss. When opened each box will unleash a wave of silver light that will engulf its respective city, driving the dementors out for good. ...But at a price. The opener of each box will find themselves aged. Decrepitly so. Bones that creak, hands that tremble, eyes that peer from deep sockets- it's as if the box has stolen all your years and then some. As if you almost became... a dementor. Physically at least.

The effects will reverse themselves over the course of the next few days and by January 4th each box opener will be the same as ever. If perhaps a little older in spirit after their harrowing adventure if no longer body.

On January 1st the sun will finally rise and the event will be over! For their trouble everyone will receive a small stash of chocolate. When eaten it'll bring warmth and good cheer back to those still feeling the effects of the dementors.

This is the end of December plot and as evidenced by the above we're in need of THREE VOLUNTEERS. On December 31st we will be throwing up a log in discedo_logs for those who wish to find the box and fight off the subsequent dementor hoards (note: even if your character doesn't end up being one of the box openers we encourage you to participate in the log; for fun and well, it's no good for someone to open the box if they turn into a soulless vegetable before they can, right?). If more than three people volunteer we will assign each character a number and use a random number generator until we have three chosen volunteers. The chosen volunteers will be announced December 29th, this gives everyone five days to volunteer.

FAQ
Q. I want to run into a dementor! But I'm not comfortable/don't wish to NPC the dementor myself.
You can leave a request here on this post and either a mod or another player (if any players want to volunteer their time) can NPC a dementor for you. Just make certain to link them when you eventually put the thread up!

Q. Can my character commit suicide/go crazy from despair and run on a mass murder spree?
Yes! Death is not a requirement of this plot, but if anyone wants to spread a little of it around we encourage it 8)

Q. My character is unchipped, can they still fight the dementors even if they can't see them?
Yes! Though they might want to team up with a chipped character to help them pinpoint the dementors locations and avoid any incoming attempts on their soul.

Q. It's going to be awfully dark for a long time, where can my character get a light?
Aside from making their own torches and fires or finding the random old flashlight in buildings, characters will be able to find lights in the following places:
Dissimulo→ the Hunting Supply store has camping lanterns and a small supply of flashlights, the Hardware store has more flashlights and a small supply of usable batteries
Discedo→ the Hardware store, North Star Super Store and Convenience Stores carry a small supply of flashlights and usable batteries each
Spero→ the Mall carries a large supply of flashlights and usable batteries, the Police Station has a small cache of flashlights and road flares

A few announcements to clear up confusion and keep everyone on the same page!

Livejournal
Currently we're making no calls on the status of where discedo will continue to be played. For now we'll be staying on livejournal, but we will be holding a poll in January for the playerbase to decide a definitive decision (most likely the 4th or the 5th, but we'll give you a hard date as we get into January). We will also be postponing the Game Feedback Meme until after this poll has been completed (it WILL still be held some time in January, we just don't want to start it without being certain of the status of the game).

For now we've turned on custom comment pages for coniurati and all of Discedo's communities which reverts the comment pages back to the former style. You can do so with your own journals here and we will be removing the part of the application acceptance note requesting players turn them off.

Plot
We were planning to hold an intensive plot December 26th through January 4th, but with the disarray LJ's in at the moment we'd rather postpone this plot until a later date. Our apologies to everyone who shifted chip events and player plot scheduling around to accommodate this plot. We will still be holding a plot some time the last week of December, but it'll be a less involved one than what we had planned. We'll have another announcement on that with more details within the next couple of days as we plan it out!

DISCEDO Temperatures are still dropping and snow continues to fall for the duration of this week. On the evening of DEC 23rd it'll start snowing lightly. Over the next 24 hours the snow will increase, and eventually die down again to small flurries on DEC 26th.

DISSIMULO Will first be seeing a mix of snow and hail on DEC 23rd. It'll soften itself out and continue to simply snow on the evening of DEC 24th through DEC 26th.

SPERO Won't be seeing much sun at the beginning of the week. The skies look as though they'll drop snow at any moment and mid-day DEC 23. The rest of the week will be accompanied by more snow, in various amounts.

It's that time of year again, and isn't it starting to look festive? On Sunday December 18th, characters will wake to find the streets lined with decorations o' plenty. Christmas trees, candy canes, gardlands and stockings on every wall you can find, the city is as beautifully decorated as ever. But let's not forget the mistletoe! What better way to end the year than to share a kiss under the mistletoe with a loved one... right?

Those of you who have been here long enough though recognize that Fortuna has its own special brand of mistletoe. And the kissing just isn't optional! When two or more characters are caught beneath the mistletoe, they become stuck in place until they kiss. The kind of kiss is entirely up to players; after all, you just can't know how picky the one you're standing under really is. If you want to try and destroy the mistletoe, go ahead! It'll only grow right back in place. On top of that, any attempts to remove the plant will only grant you an electric shock. Whoops! What's worse is that it looks like this time around, the Scientists aren't exactly leaving your "Holiday Spirit" up to choice.

You see, sometimes the mistletoe can't be satisfied even with kissing! Watch out for those fiesty ones, as they could leave your character with any of the following effects:
•Affection- Somehow, that lucky person you kissed isn't leaving your mind. In fact, you might say you're starting to see them in a whole new light. It could be anything from a sudden strong desire to make them your best friend to the fiery feelings of romance, but whatever it is, you just can't imagine spending your time without them.
•Carols- Don't holiday carols just make you all warm and fuzzy inside? Well, if they don't you may find it hard standing your own company, as this effect leaves you unable to speak in anything not remotely carol-like. Sing-song your way through it or belt out your favorite tunes! You can't help but sing out your greetings this time of year.
•Holiday Wear- Wait a minute, how long have you been wearing that hat? Where'd you get that sweater? Who knows how they managed to get on you, but this effect will give your kiss an added bit of spirit as you find yourself stuck in some kind of holiday wear!
•Good Cheer- Suddenly, everything about the holidays seems wonderful to you. And how could you be expected to keep this lovely feeling to yourself? Characters under this effect will feel compelled to share their good cheer with whoever they can find. Gift giving is one way, but if it's anything your character can do to brighten someone else's day, they'll be all for it!
•Coal- While you might agree that some people deserve the good old Christmas cheer, you'll find yourself with a large need to give "coal" to those characters who... just haven't been very nice this year. Rocks, dead monsters, explosives; no matter how innocent or extreme it is, your character will find the perfect gifts to show it doesn't pay to be naughty.

Effects can be stacked and last as long as you want until the event ends on 11:59 PM Sunday December 25th. And while decorations for the most part will remain, a large majority of the mistletoe will simply vanish! The remaining ones are just plain old misletoe, though, so don't worry about passing under that doorway anymore.

DISCEDO Snow, snow,and MORE SNOW! It's colder than ever and now there are signed of a true winter all around the lake. Discedo will be getting mostly snow with DEC 17th bringing in a bit of ice.

DISSIMULO Not skipping out on any of the snow this time. Rather than see any ice falling from the clouds above, Dissimulo will only get snow throughout the week. Hope you have some warm boots!

SPERO Nearly identical to Discedo except (You guessed it!) MORE SNOW! It will snow all week. Some days lighter than others. On DEC 14th it even stops mid day but it'll start back up again in the evening. Enjoy it before it freezes over!

Winter Event

On Saturday December 10th, you'll find something peculiar on your nearest surface. A little white pill, a bottle of water, and a note:

To guide you in the storm.

Maybe Charon's words are sticking in the back in your mind. Maybe something is coming that someone is trying to prepare you for. Then again, he is a terrible skin-taking monster, so why should you take his words as truth?

You might want to decide soon.

Letting out your desires simply wasn't enough. Now it's time to release your inner monster. Literally. Like, shit, your neighbor is now a two headed wolf creature sort of literally. Characters will be transformed into supernatural monsters (though not necessarily monsters) within only a matter of days, both physically and mentally. Pretty impressive scientific feat, wouldn't you agree?

Back to the Matrix. I mean the pills. Those who take them will experience none of the following effects. Everything is totally normal for you. That will probably come in handy later.

If you don't take them immediately, it'll get harder and harder to focus on those pills by Sunday the 11th. Your thoughts are preoccupied by other things. For some, your neighbors might start to look very delicious. Others, maybe all you want to do is barter their soul away. It's like something you never knew you wanted. Even if you know it's wrong, you can't stop thinking about it and maybe it's not so wrong after all...

Morality won't matter by Monday the 12, because you've lost all of your mental faculties. You are, mentally, whatever monster you're becoming.

Physically, it can go one of two ways: the slow way, or the fast way. Both are pretty gruesome. Former scenario, you change over the course of the day--nails falling out to be replaced by claws, skin peeling away for scales, fangs pushing out your teeth. Latter scenario, this will all happen in one bloody, excruciatingly painful transformation. You lose either way.

Which leaves you to your full-on monster mode Tuesday the 13th. You're unrecognizable to your friends in every sense. While in this state, you're as strong as the monster you've become, yet just as susceptible to its weaknesses. Sorry weredudes, silver is going to sting for you.

Luckily, there is a way back if you have a friend who took the pills and didn't undergo any changes. The only problem is how your friends are going to shove the pills you were given before you bite their hand off.

This will all end at 11:59 EST on Wednesday the 14th when all characters will returned to normal. Monster characters get to be reverse-transformed. Yes, it hurts. Maybe next time you won't be so paranoid about taking the unknown pills from a mysterious sender.

AND NOW QUESTION TIME BECAUSE I AM NEVER CONCISE:

What sort of supernatural creature can I turn into?
Bam. Or, you know, anything you might see on Monster Quest (not Ancient Aliens). It can be as general as a werewolf or something more obscure. You might want to pick one whose attributes match to your characters' worst qualities or hold some significance to your character.

Will they gain the supernatural powers of the creatures?
Chipped characters will not gain extra supernatural abilities, but can still utilize their physical powers. For example, if you decide on a vampire, you can use your fangs, but you will not change into a bat.

Unchipped characters will be able to have supernatural powers, but we ask that you list them below so they can be approved. Sorry, no instadeath mindexplosions.

So what happens if Dean Winchester shoves those pills down my character's throat after they've already transformed?
They'll remain physically the same until the end of the event, but will mentally return to normal. The same applies if the character has supernatural powers.

What if I get shot with rock salt?
That fucking hurts I don't even care you are.
