Lytham Hall

Help us unearth the secrets buried below one of Lancashire’s finest Georgian houses!

Love archaeology?

DigVentures is crowdfunding a dig to uncover Lytham Hall's deep history.

Join the dig

Lytham Hall stands as one of Lancashire’s finest Georgian houses, its elegant façade presiding over sweeping lawns and manicured gardens. But beneath this 18th-century splendour lies a landscape rich with forgotten history.

Long before the estate was built, a medieval priory stood somewhere within these grounds, its exact location lost to time. Historic aerial photographs and satellite imagery hint at what’s hidden below: ancient ridge and furrow patterns, field boundaries that predate the parkland itself, a mound from the Georgian landscaped garden, and the remains of a Second World War firing range.

Yet these clues only scratch the surface.

From the lost priory to vanished gardens, an ice house, and other buried structures, we’re on a mission to prove that Lancashire’s past goes far deeper than what meets the eye.

Join our crowdfunded dig and we’ll teach you everything you need to know to excavate alongside our archaeologists, make real discoveries, and experience what it’s like to unearth the past. Together, we can find out just how deep Lytham’s history really goes.
