Amanda Krueger came to us with something most clients don’t have: a complete set of mockups and absolute clarity about what she wanted. She wasn’t looking for another web designer to start from scratch. She needed developers who could execute her vision without compromising her standards.
The Problem Was Simple
Squarespace Couldn’t Handle Her Vision
Amanda’s interior design business operates in two very different markets, Sarasota and Connecticut. Her previous Squarespace site worked fine when she was getting started, but it became a bottleneck as AK&CO grew.
The issues were straightforward: terrible SEO performance, no way to create overlapping design elements she wanted, and a platform that simply couldn’t deliver the sophisticated experience her clients expected. More importantly, Amanda had reached that point every business owner hits when she realized her time was worth more than fighting to build a website that couldn’t quite show the elegant experience she wanted to convey.
So she did what any smart, design-savvy business owner does: she designed exactly what she wanted, then found people who could build it properly.
What Made This Project Different
Most clients come to us saying, “We need a website,” and expect us to figure out what that means. Amanda came with detailed mockups and said, “Make this work on the web.”
That sounds easier than it is.
Print and interior design, and web design follow different rules. What looks perfect in a static mockup can break completely when someone views it on their phone. We had to teach Amanda why certain layouts wouldn’t work, how images need padding to crop properly on mobile, and why element placement that works for print doesn’t always work for user behavior patterns.
Here’s what impressed us: Amanda didn’t just accept our recommendations, she understood them. By the end of the project, she told us it had completely changed how her team would approach photography shoots. They’d start thinking about mobile cropping and multi-device presentation from the beginning.
That’s the sign of a client who gets it.
We built AK&CO’s site on WordPress because Amanda needed complete control over how her projects displayed. We implemented custom post types so she could showcase work exactly how she wanted, integrated her Instagram feed to keep the site fresh, and optimized every image to maintain her visual standards without sacrificing performance.
The result is a site that works beautifully on every device while reflecting the same attention to detail that defines Amanda’s interior design work.
Why This Project Worked
Amanda brought a creative vision. We brought technical expertise and strategic thinking about how that vision would perform in the real world.
She didn’t need us to reinvent her brand or teach her about design. She needed partners who could solve the technical challenges while respecting her aesthetic decisions.
Most importantly, she trusted us to tell her when something wouldn’t work and was smart enough to listen when we explained why.
The collaboration gave Amanda more than just a better website. She now understands how digital strategy affects her business decisions, which means future projects will be more effective and require less back-and-forth.
That’s what happens when you work with clients who take partnership seriously.
