What is the Boldly Accessible Challenge?
Join the Boldly Accessible Challenge to make your Canvas course content accessible to everyone. Our program guides you through three levels of accessibility best practices to improve existing course content and build skills for future courses.
Once you've started the challenge, we'll email you every two weeks to check in on your progress. If you get stuck, use the link in the email to book a one-on-one accessibility consultation with our team.
Start by focusing on one or two Canvas courses. Once they're complete, we encourage you to sign up again to work on more. Our goal is to help you make all your Canvas courses fully accessible.
Who should take this challenge?
Everyone should accept the challenge, regardless of their level of digital accessibility knowledge. You don't need to be an expert and we don't expect you to know or learn HTML. We'll help you break down the work of creating accessible Canvas courses into small, manageable steps. Making your course content accessible creates an inclusive learning space for everyone. While it benefits everyone, it's essential for those with disabilities who depend on accessible materials to learn.
Challenge Levels
- Level 1: First Steps starts you on the path toward adopting accessible workflows for your course materials. You'll learn how to create course pages and syllabi that are accessible to all.
- Level 2: Core Practices continues your learning journey. You'll learn how to create accessible course documents and presentations.
- Level 3: Access Champion completes your journey. You'll learn how to make the remaining materials in your course, such as third-party PDFs, accessible.

What happens when you finish?
After you complete each challenge level, log your progress. A consultant will review your courses and provide a certificate to you upon completion. Once you've finished Challenge Level 1, you and your course will be featured on the Boldly Accessible Wall of Fame. Additionally, your dean and department head will be notified of your achievement. As you complete additional levels, your progress on the Wall of Fame will be updated, and your dean and department head will be notified.
Upon completing all three challenge levels, you'll receive language to add to your course description, so everyone know your content is designed with accessibility in mind.
