Digi-Soul FAQ

Digi-Soul first appeared in the series Digimon Savers. There, it was something that awakened when there was a connection between humans and their potential Digimon partners. When channeled correctly, it could make the Digimon evolve... and as the Digi-Soul grew more powerful, so too would the digimon be able to evolve to higher stages in its evolution line.

Digi-Soul was the power of emotion, and thus, was connected to its user's feelings. Humans with evil intentions would create a Dark Digi-Soul that caused the receiving digimon to go wild. But what was more, a Digi-Soul could allow a human's own powers to increase... any human who channeled it offensively found themselves able to be a physical match for a digimon.

But it works a little bit differently in this roleplay.

Digi-Soul in Digital Dive

In the Digital Dive universe, Digimon partners do not evolve by this method. Instead, a connection between humans and their partners – while still connected to emotion – as well as with their D-Comms is what triggers this process. However, Digi-Soul does exist in this universe, in a similar fashion...

... As something unique to Tamers. It is entirely dependent on their force of will, and their inner strength. But in the hands of someone capable, it can allow their strength and ability to exceed human limitations. The Digi-Soul usually manifests as a glowing, pixel-like glow of varying color around someone's body... as it grows more powerful, it covers their entire body.

It is not limited to human Tamers. Creatures of almost any species can use a Digi-Soul, and it is perhaps a gift from the god Yggdrasil to “level” the playing field, as some Tamers have natural advantages where others don't.

What Digi-Soul Can Do

At its core, a Digi-Soul is raw emotional power, channeled into a simple field - an energy field that provides blunt force trauma of its own. It can surround and be "launched" with projectiles or a weapon being wielded by a particular Tamer. It can also be thrown as if it were a physical object. In short, one of the things Digi-Soul does is make whatever it surrounds push, hit, or crush harder, and depending on its own movement and "shape", it can even mimic an actual object or a drill. It can also be thrown as if it were a physical object, but not "fired" like a beam.

The other thing Digi-Soul does is increase the strength of its wielder. Digi-Soul can now make a Tamer far stronger than a normal human, and its cut off is dependant upon the level their partner is at. So, in theory, a human can be as powerful as Digimon at the Perfect level, but only with some stipulations:

1. This is only when the digimon is evolved. This means someone can only reach levels like that if their partner is already at that stage of growth. If they are currently devolved into a Child, or an adult, their digi-soul is now as powerful as their digimon is. Basically, you can only be as strong as a Perfect if your digimon currently IS a Perfect. When a digimon is unevolved, its default setting is "adult level."

2. It depends on emotional strength as well. If someone is in a state of emotional weakness, their digi-soul will fail, no matter what level their partner is at. Digi-Soul is powered by determination, and emotions such as sadness and fear weaken it.

Naturally, like with evolutions in general, you need to ask permission before using a superior digi-soul on someone else.

Also, since Digi-Soul is essentially a field of force, you can use it as a sort of makeshift shield, or to increase a Tamer's natural fortitude. So it has defensive applications as well.

Lastly, the Digi-Soul can take on a shape meaningful to a Tamer, and its color is almost always significant to or representative of the person wielding it.

What Digi-Soul Can't Do/Digi-Soul Isn't

Digi-Soul is not magic, and it cannot be fired off like an energy blast (though it can surround a laser blast, if someone is, like, firing a laser or something). It cannot replace an existing power source, such as spiritual energy, alchemy, chakra, or any number of powers from various fictional series. So, it can't replace what was lost, even if the form is similar.

And what's more, when digi-soul is powered up when a digimon evolves, it only powers up the Tamer's physical strength and itself. Their other, natural powers, are still at the limit they were before digi-soul was used.

Dark Digi-Soul

A variety of digisoul used when a Tamer is channeling negative emotions. It is always black and purple, despite the normal color of a Tamer's digi-soul. There is no distinct difference between this and normal Digi-Soul in terms of use and abilities, but it DOES signal a Tamer's tendency to become more violent as well as increasing the chances of their digimon to undergo Dark Evolution. It is usually accompanied by lots of screaming.

Timeskip Application

When a character wants to advance their character through canon that happened after they applied for the character, or send them back home for another reason, we refer to this as a timeskip. In the past, we've allowed people to do so informally, but from here on, we will be asking people to do a "timeskip application" for their characters.

It should be noted, you are only allowed to timeskip a character once.

App Addendum Application

As character abilities are a major aspect of this game, and elements have been introduced to bolster people's various attacks, we are now formally introducing the App Addendum policy.

An App Addendum is, simply, a new policy that will allow people to get in new abilities that they have accquired in Dive, or have appeared in canon after the point someone set their application, by running it by us first. However, there will come with two stipulations.

One app addendum per character: You may only do an app addendum once for a particular character.
Another character may be responsible for a power up up to a limit of three times: Basically, a character can only give someone a power up that results in new abilities up to a limit of three times, and then they can do no more. This does not apply to actions taken in a series canon or outside of the roleplay.

Because this is a balance issue, if you have done an app addendum or have one character be responsible for a power up at least three or more times prior to the setting of this policy, they will still count towards the one character or three times amount. There are some exceptions - this does not apply to the act of being given a Demon Seal, or the Bio-Hybridization proccess, and in those matters, an app addendum is not required. The same goes for items collected in Dive that are listed among the purchasable items.

Here is the format for the app addendum:

Glossary of Terms

This is a glossary of terms associated with the roleplay and the Digital Dive universe. If you think this list is missing something, or are confused about a definition, simply reply and we will consider the issue.

Adult - The evolutionary stage after the Child level. This is when a digimon enters maturity. It is also known as Champion.

Area Leader: Also known as Area Guardian. A powerful digimon, usually of the Ultimate level, that is responsible for ruling over a particular segment of the digital world.

Attribute: One of three categories of digimon. They consist of Vaccine, Data, and Virus. There is a fourth attribute, Variable, but no living digimon of this type currently exists.

Baby I: The beginning of a digimon's life cycle after hatching from an egg. It is when a digimon is weakest. It is also known as Fresh.

Baby II: The next stage of evolution after Baby I. It is also known as In-Training.

Bio Hybrid: A Tamer fused with the data of a digimon. The term is a bit of a misnomer, but only biological Tamers have been fused to a digimon in this manner. A Bio-Hybrid will always be somewhat stronger than the natural digimon it is based on, by at least one level.

Child: The evolutionary stage after Baby II. This is the most common form of a digimon, and the first stage where it is a highly developed creature. It is also known as Rookie.

D-Comm: The digivice that links a Tamer and a digimon. For more details, please see the write up on the D-Comm.

Data: What the entire digital world and everything in it is composed of.

Data (Attribute): An attribute of digimon. They tend to be digimon who are neither holy nor demonic.

D-Reader: A companion device to the D-Reader, and in the case of digimon operating alone, a replacement for it. For more information, please see the write up on the D-Reader.

Dark Area: An army of primarily Demonic species digimon, who want to conquer the digital world to increase their own standing and to avenge oppression. Their leader is Diablomon.

Dark Evolution: An act of evolution triggered by a digimon responding to a human's darker emotions. It usually results in a corrupted form of the digimon's natural form. In the case of digimon who are already of a demonic species, they simply run wild.

Demon King: The title of a particularly high-ranking demonic digimon. Refers to a natural type of digimon, and to a particular group of digimon called the Seven Great Demon Kings. Not all Demon Kings are a member of this group; an example being Murmuxmon.

Demon Seal: A mark left on a Tamer or digimon by a Demon King. It contains a segment of their power, and evolves over several levels. For more information, please see the write up on Demon Seals.

Demon's Blood Talisman: An item that allows a Tamer with a Demon Seal to disguise themselves. Usually takes the form of a simple cosmetic change, but can sometimes provide armor or weapons.

Digi-Egg: The form a digimon takes when it begins its life cycle. It hatches into a Baby digimon. It is also known as a Digitama. Do not confuse this with a Digimental.

Digignome: A fish-like glowing creature native to all parts of the digital world. They are often kept as pets. Despite similarities to beings from another world, they do not grant wishes and have no extraordinary powers whatsoever.

Digimon: The primary inhabitants of the digital world. They are born in the digital world and grow through evolutionary stages as their life spans progress. They are usually sentient, but some develop in a similar manner to wild animals.

Digimon Natural Ability (D.N.A.): A particular lines of code that associate a digimon with a particular variety of digimon and influences their evolutionary path.

Digi-Soul: A power triggered in Tamers by emotional response that powers up their natural abilities. See the write up for digi-soul for more details.

Digital Accident Tactics Squad (DATS): An organization of Tamers currently operating out of the Royal Base and Neon City. It is allied with TigerVespamon and his army and is meant to keep the peace.

Digimental: A rare item that can allow a Tamer to armor evolve their partner. There are several different types of Digimental. See the items page for more details.

Digital Fish: Creatures that swim in the ocean and in rivers and lakes. Gomamon are capable of summoning them. They are used as food.

Evolution: The act of a digimon evolving. With Tamers, it is triggered by emotion. It is also known as Digivolution.

Family: A method of classifying digimon that is not a formal distinction, but rather, a mental and social association shared between digimon that are physically and culturally similar.

Goods Tree: A tree that will produce all manner of food and drink, be it fruit, meat, milk, or alcohol. Cannot take the form of special items or inorganic matter. Goods Trees that produce drinks grow objects that have an outer shell that serves as a "bottle."

Norn Program: One of the three archetype programs that represent a particular segment of Yggdrasil's personality. They are Skuld, the analytical and logic oriented part; Verdandi, the empathic and emotional part; and Urd, the decision maker. They often act seperately and may even have seperate goals.

Perfect: The evolutionary stage after Adult. Digimon become more specialized and powerful in this form. It is sometimes confused with the term for the Ultimate level, as it is currently the strongest form digimon can reach now.

Royal Knights: A legendary group of network guardians once led by Imperialdramon Paladin Mode. Now, only two are left: Dukemon and Omegamon.

Seven Great Demon Kings: The particular group of Demon Kings seeking to conquer the Digital World. They were formed from the remainin power of the Demon God Ogudamon, who was in turn formed by sins from across the multiverse.

Shining Evolution: The ability of all digimon to evolve to the Ultimate level. The power and clearance for this is sealed under Imperialdramon's sword on Draco Island, but this is not common knowledge.

Tag: A legendary item held by people of power in the digital world. Each one has a power all its own, and represents an archetypal digimon D.N.A. type.

Tamer: A being from another universe who has been partnered to a digimon by Yggdrasil. Often armed with a D-Comm, and a D-Reader. Also capable of channeling Digi-Soul and evolving their partner digimon through emotional power.

Type: Another method of classifying digimon that describes their general appearance and traits.

The Old Digital World: The Digital World that existed before the Digital Hazard, and Yggdrasil creating the new digital world.

The Syndicate: An organization of criminals, most of them Tamers, operating under the legacy of Akihiro Kurata's old organization. They seek to do for evil Tamers what DATS does for the more heroic ones.

Ultimate: The final stage of digimon evolution, save for some exceptions. These are digimon at their strongest, capable of feats of great power. It is sometimes referred to as Mega.

Vaccine: An attribute of digimon. They tend to be either holy digimon or dragon type digimon.

Virus: An attribute of digimon. Virus digimon tend to be more ferocious, and many demonic digimon are viral.

Virus Busters: An army of Holy-species digimon dedicated to the destruction of demonic digimon. Their leader is Omegamon.

Yggdrasil: The first god of the Digital World. It oversees the continuing existance of the digital world and the lives of those in it.

Ymir: The second god of the Digital World. It is responsible for maintaining the simple existence of the digital world. His existence is known only to few.

There's been a new addition The Rules page, regarding applications and character counts.

The new rule is, effectively:

Digital Dive now has a policy where, if one has over 15 characters, they may only apply for two characters (no matter how minor) from any fictional work a month. Naturally, this comes with several stipulations.

1.If your application is rejected, then it does not count as one of your two monthly applications. This only applies to applications that are ultimately accepted.

2.People who fall into this category may only have two active reservations at a time, as well. If you have applied for two characters already, then you must wait until the end of the month to reserve anyone.

3.If you adopt a character from someone else, this counts as one of your monthly character acquisitions. This also applies to bringing back characters that you would have previously dropped and have been granted permission to return to the game.

4. This only applies to characters from canon; these rules would not apply to original characters, and there would be no limit placed upon them. However, if your roster does include original characters, they will be counted towards the 15-character cut off point.

This policy is in effect starting today, February 18th. From this point, everyone starts fresh, even if you have had an application accepted before today, and it only concerns applications made between now and the end of February. Then, when March rolls around, the count will reset, as it will every month onward.

You guys can come to us for anything; this extends to people who do or don't belong to the role-play. Be it on AIM, here on the community, we always allow people to submit their opinions on the game and any concerns about how it's managed.

In addition to being available on various messengers, we have the Suggestions post and the FAQ post. If you have any issues with the game, or suggestions on how we can improve, ideas for future events, or things that come across as something that should be changed, please give us feedback. We can't address these concerns if they're not brought to our attention.

No one's on the spot, or anything, it's just... we've gone a while, and these venues haven't been explored when they could have. Just needed to put that out there.

This will be double posted between both announcement communities to increase visibility.

CHARACTER RESERVES:

AS OF JANUARY 09, 2012, RESERVES ARE CLOSED IN ORDER TO MAKE THE IMPENDING MOVE TO DREAMWIDTH EASIER. CURRENT RESERVES WILL BE RESERVED UNTIL THE MOVE IN THE INTEREST OF FAIRNESS. THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING.

This is the area where you, the players, may reserve characters you intend to apply for. Before you reserve, however, allow me to lay down some ground rules.

[01] Because of the hectic lives of the moderators (reserves mod included), we are now running reserves on a schedule. The day for the reserves moderator to check, validate, and post the reserves is Every Sunday. You are free to post reserves before Sunday, but be forewarned that any reserve made here before I validate it will not be valid. This is in the interest of fairness and making it easier on the mods.
[02] Each reserve lasts three weeks, starting from the Sunday that reserves mod validates it. Because we allow so much time in our character reserves, if your reserve runs out, we will not be granting extensions.
[03] Reserves are still a first come, first serve basis. If someone posts a reserve for _________ from the series called ________, and then someone else posts a reserve for the very same _________ from the series called __________, the person who reserved that character first will be the one who gets the validated reserve. The other reserve will be told "someone has already reserved this character."
[04] If you want to apply for a character that somebody has reserved, you are free to do so ... but please be aware that we may not look at your application for this character until the current reserve on him/her/it/whatever has run out. Reserves guarantee the first dibs on this character, so we have to be fair and give the reserver a chance before we look at anybody else's application for that character.
[05] Common sense. Please to be using it. There are no restrictions on how many characters you can reserve, but it would be a lot easier on the modfolks if you didn't reserve four characters when you can only apply for two within the month. :] Just saying. Also, please don't reserve an OC. Nobody but you should be playing a character you created, and if they are, it should have been already worked out with you.

General Rules

1. Practice good netiquette. Don't deliberately try to cause problems, make all OOC posts clear and well mannered, and remember that respect applies to all OOC interaction regarding the role-play, be it in chat or any of the affiliated communities. If you have a problem with another member, bring it up to the moderators, and don't resort to flaming.

2. No "backseat moderating." The enforcement of the rules is up to the moderators, and it is not up to you to comment to others on what they are doing wrong when. If you suspect someone is breaking the rules, bring it up to a moderator and don't presume authority.

3. Elements considered "not safe for work" (NSFW) are permissible as part of the role-play canon, but please do not play them out on the main community. Please play such things out on private journals, under a friends lock. We prefer that you also flag it for adult content, but this is not required.

a. This also includes threads that have excessive amounts of violence. Not all fights fall into this category, just ones that involve highly detailed portrayals of significant harm, blood loss, or graphic character death. If you have any questions about this, please ask a moderator.

b. For characters under the age of 14, anything related to the portrayal of them as partaking in sexual situations cannot be depicted or referenced on the community or in character journals, even if it is not actually played out.

4. If you wish to play out a specific log with someone, you must get their clear and concise permission OOCly first. In short, do not assume that the log will be played out or that the mun or character is available until you have made sure of this.

5. Good spelling and grammar are encouraged.

6. Punishment for breaking rules is decided on a case-by-case basis, usually involving a warning, a probationary period with some allowances taken away, or, in the worst case scenario, a ban.

Gaming Rules

1. Be in character. Your character doesn't have a free pass once their application is approved. Try to stay in character as much as possible. Please note that we understand that characters can and will change as a result of character development, so don't be afraid to let them grow. This is for behavior that is wildly out of character without justification.

2. Your character can and will take damage. This is a game that relies on balance between combatants, and even in factoring skill, no one character is completely untouchable. This doesn't, however, mean that you should ignore your character's skills and have them lose intentionally, but if we notice your character avoiding damage through repetitive actions and assumed avoidance rather than relying on what their own prowess or the assessment of the opponent's actions, we will look at that character with scrutiny.

3. Don't god mode. Examples of god moding include:

a. Vastly overpowering others in battle without permission.

b. Detailing the actions of characters, or the effects of attacks, on characters you do not control without permission.

c. Manipulating events to a ridiculous extent in order to make your character untouchable and free of any consequences for their actions.

4. NPCs exist for fleshing out the world, and/or providing a brief challenge for your characters. Recurring NPCs are allowed, but they should not be overused to the point that they seem as though they exist for the purpose of beefing up your individual character's standing. Again, if you have any questions about this, ask the moderators. Also, please note that some NPCS are controlled by the mods for plot purposes, and do not exist for this reason, and that if you create an NPC, that character is now open to be used by anyone in the community. If you would like to have particular ownership of an NPC, please bring it up to a moderator, and we will advise you on what to do.

5. In accordance with one of the Application Rules, your character's natural powers must be portrayed as being scaled no stronger than an Adult (Champion-level) digimon. However, Digi-Soul abilities are the exception, as detailed here.

It should be noted, though, that we allow wiggle room for this, and if you have any related ideas here, please bring them up to the moderators.

6. If you want to make any series that another character comes from fictional to your character, or for them to have any knowledge of their world, you must first ensure that it is okay with the mun for that character - even if you have portrayed it as such in the past.

7. The point of this game is that it is a digimon role-play. Part of the whole point is exploring your character as a digimon tamer. Use your character's partner with regularity, and do not ignore them.

8. The following are rules related to the portrayal of evolution in the game:

a. Evolution to either Baby, Baby II, Child, or Adult is unrestricted and has no requirements whatsoever.

b. Evolution to Perfect requires you to meet at least one of the following requirements: 1) Having the character be in the game for three months and their partner having achieved two, on-screen, battle-related evolutions in that time period; or 2) Achieving five, on-screen, battle-related evolutions before three months. If they are always at adult form, they simply have to appear during these events and fight, rather than be portrayed as evolving.

c. Jogressing is open to anybody, as long as the partners of both characters meet any of the above requirements.

d. Evolution to Ultimate is currently locked off, due to story reasons. You may however plan for this evolutionary stage and include it on your application.

e. If you play an unpartnered digimon, then the above rules still apply. They simply have to evolve or appear on their own.
Evolution through the use of a Digimental does not count towards an evolution requirement tally.

9. For storyline purposes, some characters may be allowed special provisions to exist outside some of the rules for evolution, power, and various other elements. These characters are listed as "Special Privilege" or "SP Characters", and this status is assigned on a case by case basis - usually to moderators. All major NPCS are SP characters, including the Demon Kings, Area Leaders, and various others.

A full list of SP characters and their abilities is pending.

10. In regards to death: When a Digimon dies, they are reverted to Digi-Egg form. Digimon unconnected to Tamers have no memory of their previous life when they are reborn. Digimon connected to Tamers CAN have their memories intact, due to their connection with their partner.

A Tamer, however, that dies, is - in most cases (some exceptions may be given for robotic or undead characters) - dead. And henceforth, due to "unforeseen variances in the program," when a character dies, Yggdrasil will forcefully remove them from the system. The "system," of course, being the Digital World.

While there may be methods of resurrection either as part of the game or the character's abilities or original canon, it will be up to the player to discuss the matter with the moderators, and to figure out a way that fits within the world setting. It is also not something that will be passed or allowed often, so please think carefully before setting your characters down a path they may not be able to return form.

Application/Reservation Rules

1. The minimum for history is now four paragraphs. However, we will not refuse applications that are longer, or are more thorough. Use your space well and focus on writing about your character and their place in their world as well as possible.

2. We allow original characters. However, please realize that we will approaching them with more scrutiny than most characters, and that one should avoid having them come off as Mary or Gary Stus. This is simply because most other characters usually have an entire canon to back them up and fall back upon, and original characters have to sustain themselves completely on the player's own ideas.

3. We allow applications for characters who are digimon, and are not partnered to a human. However, if that digimon is of the Ultimate level, their power will be reduced to that of a Perfect digimon upon entry into the digital world.

4. Your character must have a digimon partner - unless they are a digimon themselves.

5. Do not copy-paste from sources such as Wikipedia or anywhere else. If you are caught doing this, you will be asked to rewrite the copied section wholesale. You may also not directly rewrite from Wikipedia, or turn in elements of an application derived entirely from them.

6. If you are going to apply for an original character who is in any way related to a character (future children, long lost sibling, etc.) that is already in Dive, you must first ask the player (or players) of those characters if this is acceptable. This does not apply to characters who not original, and have a relation to an existing one in canon.

7. There is a "two strikes, you're out" policy on applications. You will be asked to revise certain areas once, and if you fail to meet the moderators' standards the second time, your application will be rejected and you must wait two weeks before applying again.

9. If you have over 15 characters, you may only apply for two characters from any fictional work a month, no matter how minor they are. This comes with several stipulations:

a. This only applies to canonical characters, and there is no limit on how many you can apply for before you pass the 15 character mark. However, if you have an OC, they will still be counted when you reach a total of 15 characters.

b. If your application is rejected, this does not count as one of your monthly applications, and you can still reapply for them before the time is up.

c. People who fall into this category may only have two reservations per month, or however many depending on any applications one has posted that month already.

d. These don't "stack." If you fail to post two applications each month, you don't get two more the following month.

If you adopt a character from someone else, you don't have to apply for them, but it still counts as one of your monthly acquisitions.

10. Do not leave any field of your application or reservation blank, or list any parts of it as being "on file" already.

11. Timeskips and app addendums must now be applied for separately. The requirements for them are listed on their respective pages.

Please note that some of these may be opened up as enhanced forms for Ultimate digimon in the future; this is just a list of forms that characters cannot take as their first, normal Ultimate evolution when that ability becomes available. Any fan made digimon derived from these digimon are also similarly banned. Some of these digimon may be used as story-relevant NPCs, controlled by the moderators.

Also note that Imperialdramon Fighter Mode and Beelzebumon Blast Mode are still allowed as normal evolutions, but not as mode changes - meaning they must evolve from a perfect digimon.

Special Note: We now allow certain Xros Wars digimon into the game; for a list of which ones, and what levels they are considered to be, please see this post.

13. Generally, Human Hybrid digimon can be used as Adults, Armor digimon can be used as Adults or Perfects, Beast and Advance Hybrid digimon can be used as Perfects, and Z Hybrids can be used as Ultimate digimon. Any examples of these used in different ways prior to this occurred before this rule was put into place, and are thus grandfather caused in.
