The installed configuration consists of two consoles, each with 18 physical faders. Each console comprises three fader modules and one control module but its capacity is doubled by a layering function which allows complete control over a greater number of channels without taking up additional physical space. The consoles incorporate 100 mm motorised faders with dust protection ensuring long-lasting high grade performance.

“As for its operation, the experience is fluid and intuitive thanks to the 10.1-inch touchscreens integrated into each section. These allow quick channel setup and centralised control. Programmable RGB buttons and flexible encoders adapt their function to the screen content, facilitating access to essential tools such as equalisers, dynamics and gain adjustments.

“At the processing level, the heart of each DHD system is its core, a compact unit that handles a massive audio matrix with up to 96 fully processed stereo faders. The core requires no hard drives or fans, ensuring quiet and low-maintenance operation – crucial for a studio environment. Compatible with Dante, AES67, RAVENNA, ST 2110 and MADI, the system is a futureproof solution for broadcasting.Your Content Goes Here

“For routing broadcast signals and communication between consoles we installed a DHD 52-7523 core matrix. Thanks to the logical functionality between the matrix, the consoles and DHD’s MatrixControl, it is possible to route the main broadcast submatrices, manage commercial breaks and select the studio for broadcast, both manually and using conditional logic.

“For the daily management of its broadcasts, esRadio uses the XFrame Radio automation software developed by ASPA’s R&D department. This system is characterised by its quality, adaptability and security. It is a technology benchmark in Spain and has a significant international presence. We would like to thank esRadio for their continued trust in ASPA and our professional solutions over the years.”

DHD Firmware 10.4

Firmware 10.4 introduces three new configuration capabilities: Flex Channels, Mic Preamp Control and Channel Categories:

• Flex Channels allows access to more signals within the system. Source selection is performed from a pre-assigned input source list rather than from the pool of fader channels.

• Mic Preamp Control enables the A-Gain value of a microphone input to be set at any time without the need for assignment to a fader. The console’s touchscreen, the Views App or the API can be used to change the A-Gain parameter.

• Channel Categories are provided for fader channels. This allows the input source list to be filtered for specific signals.

Also new in Firmware 10.4 are four API-related features:

• New Control API for DHD AES67 interfaces: This allows secured connections using Tokens and HTTPS, enabling complete control over the stream parameters and interface settings. The format is similar to the already-released Control API for DHD cores.

• DHD Control API is now available as a Bitfocus Companion plug-in for the Elgato Stream Deck. It elevates the Stream Deck and similar devices into professional control surfaces for an extensive range of equipment and applications. A Stream Deck plug-in is also available for the DHD RM1 portable all-in-one audio production and broadcast system.

• TypeScript Library for DHD Control API on the Cores provides a function set for integration of DHD Control API in third-party software.

• Go Library for easy integration of DHD Control API in 3rd party software. This allows developers to build applications that interact with DHD devices, enabling seamless control and automation. The library is open-source under the MIT license, ensuring flexibility for a wide range of use cases. It is available now at https://github.com/dhd-audio.

DHD’s Routing Web App allows incoming sources and output ports to be securely assigned, viewed and managed by a nominated operator situated locally or remotely. HTML5-based, it runs directly on the web server integrated within the DHD processing core. Individual crosspoint matrices can be created and displayed graphically or as an input/output list. Matrix configurations can be stored as presets for fast selection and recall. The Routing Web App expands the range of DHD Web Apps to six, including the Assist App, Labels App, Snapshot App, System App and Views App. Each can be activated on a license basis.

now fully deliverable, the RM1 Pro is a complete studio-quality audio production system housed in a compact desktop unit weighing only 1 kg,” comments Christoph Gottert, DHD’s international sales manager. “Based on the entry-level RM1, it comes with an extended toolset optimised for remote or onsite broadcast contribution, live news production, web radio and podcasting. The extra tools allow tight connectivity with DHD infrastructure located at the host broadcasting centre. Like the standard RM1, the RM1 Pro includes an automatic mix mode which can be used to balance incoming audio channels, conforming background audio to a presettable level and minimising distractions. A remote-faders option allows RM1 Pro channels to be controlled from another DHD system or vice versa. Our Soundware Norge colleagues will also be promoting the complete DHD audio mixer family which comprises the modular RX2, compact SX2, ultra-compact DX2 and multitouch TX2 control consoles plus a choice of signal processors, interfaces and software.”

Each module has a dedicated 10.1-inch colour touchscreen which gives access to main control and channel settings, metering and system snapshots. Assignable hardware buttons are provided in the central section, plus adaptive labels in a separate 7-inch vertical touch display. The adaptive labels allow fast access to functions such as monitoring and talkback.

The SX2 is an aggressively priced 6 to 16 fader compact modular broadcast mixer for on-air studios, audio workstations and smaller OB vans. The central module (52-5614) has 4 faders plus a section for monitoring, talkback, and central controls. The fader modules (52-5620) feature 6 professional-grade 100 mm motorised faders with dust-protection. Each module can be chained with others to create a standalone mixing desk. Integral display screens allow operators to check connectivity and signal levels. SX2 features can be extended simply by adding optional license codes to the DSP core, allowing extra faders, busses and clean feeds.

DHD’s DX2 is a fully featured desktop audio mixing system designed for use wherever space is at a premium. Its user interface is simplified to focus on the facilities needed in a newsroom desk, professional podcast studio or video-editing booth. The DX2 offers the same assistive mixing functions as other DHD consoles, such as automatic mixing and auto level gain. A 3.5 mm jack on the rear doubles as an input and output, allowing a smartphone to be connected quickly and easily for live telephone interviews. The DX2 works with all current DHD cores running version 10 firmware.

The TX2 is an ultra-compact touchscreen mixer designed for daily operation in newsrooms, talk studios, OB trucks and edit suites. It can be deployed standalone or to expand any DHD system. The TX2’s forward-sloping panel includes a 10.1-inch capacitive touchscreen IPS display, 2 assignable potentiometers and 6 silent multicolour hardware buttons, allowing fully professional audio mixing. The TX2 connects to a core processor or concentrator along a single network cable which also carries all audio and control signals, plus power, up to 100 metres. The mixing panel can be integrated with XS3, XC3 or XD3 cores in isolation or as part of a larger mixing system.

Founded in 1967 following the merger of Radio Industrial and Melodia FM Estéreo, Cadena Melodía expanded in the 1980s with stations in Bucaramanga, Cúcuta, Cartagena de Indias, Barranquilla, Cali and Pasto. Cadena Melodía also offers its programmes online in HD audio format via https://melodia-stereo-730am-7000.m.letio.com/.

In addition to their role as production mixers, the SX2 control surfaces can be used to perform audio routing from any available input to assigned outputs, including recording tools, booth monitoring, audio codec returns, and hybrid outputs. Routing is supervised through a 10-inch multitouch screen forming the upper section of each SX2 modular control surface.

This optimises costs and space in the broadcast master, allowing for automatic mixing. Studio microphones are routed to one of the 16 available programme buses. This is controlled using DHD’s Automix tool, simplifying console operation.

“The DHD system supports a very large number of audio inputs and outputs in all existing audio formats. We also installed headphone jacks with independent level control. This allows independent return audio to each announcer, including specific talkback or commands from Cadena Melodía’s master control room when needed.

“In summary, we appreciate the trust of the entire management, technical and administrative team of Cadena Melodía de Colombia for allowing us to continue being part of the technological renewal of radio in the country.”

Core control networking allows the exchange of logic commands with other DHD devices for talkback or on-air signalling. Users also gain access to individual DHD Toolbox configurations plus the ability to create an RM1 Pro user interface tailored to their workflow, including loudness metering functionality. RM1 Pro behaves like a standard DHD Series 52 core device so additional software or features such as remote faders can be licensed if or when required. The remote faders option, for example, allows RM1 Pro channels to be controlled from another DHD system or vice versa.”

Each can be activated on a licence basis.

Firmware 10.4 adds a range of refinements which expand the operational versatility and third-party product compatibility of DHD equipment.

Also introduced was a new version of the DHD Headphone Box. Connecting via a standard patch cable to one of the headphone ports, this accepts 6.3 or 3.5 mm jacks and has a potentiometer to control the headphone level, plus a GPI to accommodate, for example, a cough-mute button.

Demonstrated ahead of its anticipated Q1 2026 introduction, DHD’s AI-based voice enhancement allows the removal of noise and distortion in live broadcast voice presentations. Developed in cooperation with ai|acoustics, this will be available as an integral element of the DHD XD3 IP core for use with any DHD audio mixing desk. Potential applications include enhancing the audibility of a commentator in a noisy sports stadium or a reporter presenting a live bulletin against a background of city-centre motor traffic. The process can be applied in post-production as well as for live applications, allowing programme editors or newsroom staff to work with content that might previously have been unusable.

The mixers were supplied by Media Utilities, a long-established audio systems integrator based at Almere. “Time pressure was a significant challenge so we chose to make the five radio studios technically identical with state-of-the-art technology including extensive support for multimedia,” says Tim Blankman, Mediahuis Radio technical manager. “Each of the three production studios has a DHD DX2 mixer that can be used in conjunction with our vocal booths. The vocal booths are also equipped with a DX2 mixer for multifunctional use, allowing programme makers to contribute live or recorded content to the production studios. The DHD mixers are all equipped with lightweight manual faders that enable soft fader starts for fast presentations, combined with the reliability and versatility of digital control. The reactions from our jocks have been very enthusiastic.”

Media Prima, Malaysia’s largest media and entertainment conglomerate, chose DHD SX2 audio production mixers for integration into new broadcast studios on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur. The project was completed in partnership with VME Broadcast and Stagetec Asia. It included the supply, installation and commissioning of complete audio systems for Media Prima’s TV3 and 8TV television channels. “The project was inspired by the concept of ‘serumah’, or one house, bringing multiple platforms under one roof,” says Mohamad Rezwan Khalil Azmi, Media Prima CTO. “Integration of these systems has significantly improved workflow efficiency and our teams are now better equipped for seamless coordination across departments.” As part of the transition, Stagetec Asia integrated DHD SX2 modular broadcast consoles into the TV3 and 8TV production control suites.

Radio Azzurra FM, northwest Italy, invested in a DHD SX2 audio routing and mixing console for integration into its studio headquarters. The installation formed a central element of a restructuring project by Milan-based BVMedia. “Radio Azzurra selected us to perform the total digitisation and optimisation of their internal technical resources,” says Roberto Zeccara, BV Media senior project manager. “We recommended DHD’s SX2 as the product of excellence for audio management, appreciated for its versatility and speed of setup. Like all DHD mixers, the SX2 is very user-friendly which removes the burden of carrying out time-consuming training. Customisation of the keys plus the versatility of the TFT touchscreens allows presenters to go on air independently and confidently without needing technical support.”

Radio Marca in Spain chose DHD audio mixers and routing as the heart of recently expanded production facilities at its Madrid headquarters. Supervised by Agrupación de Servicios y Productos de Audio (ASPA), the project encompassed planning and equipping a main radio studio, two secondary studios, three audio production booths and the master control room. The system recommended and installed by ASPA’s project management team includes six DHD digital mixing consoles plus a complete DHD routing matrix. RX2 mixers with 18 physical faders have been integrated into the main and secondary studios plus DX2 consoles with four physical faders in the audio production booths. Both models allow layered operation by extending the number of channels of each console. The new MCR is equipped with a complete routing system centred on a DHD XD3 core digital signal processor.

Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) Sarawak, the central regional division of Malaysia’s state broadcast network, specified DHD audio mixing consoles and digital signal processing cores in a major upgrade to its studios in Kuching. System design, installation and commissioning were coordinated by Stagetec Asia. A key part of the project was the integration of six DHD SX2 consoles plus primary and auxiliary XC2 cores. “RTM’s trust and satisfaction in its partnership with Stagetec Asia are grounded in a robust collaboration initiated in 2005, a bond further highlighted by the recent undertaking of an extensive broadcast project at Angkasapuri Kota Media,” adds Advon Tan, Stagec Asia managing director. “Our track record in executing complex audio infrastructure projects was instrumental in securing this project which equips RTM Sarawak for highly efficient broadcast production, combining operational versatility with high signal quality.”

Risaralda FM Tu Radio chose a 10-channel SX2 mixer with an XC3 core for integration into its studio headquarters in the Pereira, capital city of Risaralda, western Colombia. The project forms part of ongoing upgrades to the state-owned broadcasting channel, including new live transmission and recording capabilities. It was negotiated and completed by Bogota-based broadcast systems specialist ASPA ANDINA. “The compactness of the DHD SX2 console is ideal for radio activities,” comments Guillermo Andrés Rodas Suárez, Risaralda 100.2 FM Tu Radio announcer. “The DHD system has facilitated our transition to digital, avoiding losses and electrical interference to which our analog equipment was subject.” “The DHD system has captivated every announcer and operator who has used it, increasing the pleasure they get from working at our station,” summarises Diana Vega, Risaralda 100.2 FM station director.

SRR, the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Company, commissioned a new state-of-the-art radio production and broadcast facility centred on a DHD RX2 and TX2 console system delivered and integrated by DHD’s Romanian partner RomTek Electronics. The newly equipped studios are designed to support SRR’s production, broadcast and podcast operations, advancing the technical infrastructure at the network’s Bucharest headquarters with modular IP-based audio architecture and a seamlessly integrated acoustic design. “This project marks a major leap forward in Romania’s public broadcasting infrastructure,” comments Ion Ungureanu, SRR engineering lead. “The combination of DHD’s modular IP architecture and RomTek’s design knowhow gives us immediate capability and long-term flexibility. We can shift between live programmes, multitrack production, and podcast workflows, with no change in the central audio path.”

Taiwan state broadcaster TBS (Taipei Broadcasting Station) completed a modernisation project at its headquarters in Taipei City. The upgrade was coordinated by Taiwan-based systems integrator ADE in collaboration with Tiyu and Stagetec Asia. “The project combined seamless integration of advanced digital audio technology with the need to ensure zero downtime for TBS’s 24-hour operations,” comments Yap Wei Keong, Stagetec Asia senior project manager. “DHD SX2 online air mixing has been provided for each of the eight radio studios. We also integrated a TX2 in the MCR where its touch-driven interface simplifies complex operations and enhances transitions between programmes. The system includes an automated time scheduler which handles signal routing in sync with the TBS broadcast schedule, reducing the need for manual intervention. Meticulous planning ensured uninterrupted transmission throughout the project.”

Among highlight projects in the educational sector, Han Chiang University College of Communication in Penang, Malaysia, chose a DHD DX2 audio production system for its media training studio. The project was implemented in cooperation with Stagetec Asia from its base in Cyberjaya, Selangor. “This upgrade is aimed at ensuring Han Chiang University College of Communications remains at the forefront of media and communication education, preparing its students for careers in the broadcast and wider field of electronic arts,” comments Yap Wei Keong, Senior Project Manager at Stagetec Asia. “The DX2 system we recommended and duly integrated fits the university’s needs perfectly. The system is really easy to use, especially for students who are just starting to learn broadcasting.”

Peres Academy selected a DHD SX2 audio mixer as the centrepiece of a new audio and video media production facility at Rehovot near Tel Aviv. The project was supervised by Jerusalem-based system integrator Broadcast Design Ltd. “Peres Academy is one of Israel’s largest centres of learning,” comments Micha Blum, founder and CEO of Broadcast Design. “The academy asked us to design and equip a single-operator control room plus a studio for a new innovation hub. We responded with a system that is versatile and easy to use, delivering high quality sound and video. DHD’s SX2 with integral Dante IP audio connectivity was chosen for its operational versatility, robust build quality and space efficiency. The system works well and is very operator friendly. Installation, testing and customer familiarisation were completed in just two days. We are always fast.”

The RomTek team carefully optimised the mapping of I/O structure and routing architecture so that each production session can operate with minimal latency and maximum reliability, while preserving headroom and signal integrity across the audio chain.

One of the most striking features of the installation is its acoustic treatment using a concept authored by Ion Ungureanu, SSR engineering lead, and integrated by RomTek’s build team. Rather than exposing absorbers and diffusers in visible panels, the acoustic interventions are embedded within the decor, leaving only artistic diffusion elements like subtle reflection control surfaces visible. The room surfaces hide the absorptive and damping layers behind decorative finishes and LED lighting with adjustable colour and intensity. The result is a broadcast control room and local studio that look elegant, warm and contemporary, yet deliver highly controlled reverberation times, low flutter echoes, uniform diffusion and predictable reflection behaviour.

The DHD elements are integrated into SRR’s wider infrastructure, enabling studio-to-transmitter links, multichannel routing and remote patching.

“This project marks a major leap forward in Romania’s public broadcasting infrastructure,” Ion Ungureanu comments. “The combination of DHD’s modular IP architecture and RomTek’s design knowhow gives us immediate capability and long-term flexibility. We can shift between live programmes, multitrack production and podcast workflows with no change in the central audio path.”

DHD RX2 mixers (https://dhd.audio/products/mixing-consoles/rx2/) are based on central and fader modules which can be combined to accommodate up to 96 faders. Each module has a 10.1 inch touchscreen which gives access to main control and channel settings, metering and system snapshots. Each RX2 fader module includes six dust-protected 100 mm track-length motorised faders. Every fader channel is augmented by a rotary encoder and two pushbuttons. The rotary encoder can be assigned to control gain settings, auxiliary sends, EQ parameters and dynamics. The pushbuttons are assignable to functions such as on/off, prefader listen, layer or talk.

DHD TX2 ultra-compact audio production mixers (https://dhd.audio/products/mixing-consoles/tx2/) can be deployed standalone or as an easy way to expand any DHD system. The TX2’s forward-sloping panel includes a 10.1 inch capacitive touchscreen IPS display, two assignable potentiometers and six silent multicolour hardware buttons, allowing fully professional audio mixing. The number and size of faders can be configured, buttons can be assigned with the required functions and peak meters can be set to show specific channel signal levels. The TX2 can be integrated with DHD XC3, XS3 or XD3 cores in isolation or as part of a larger mixing system and does not require a PC for operation.

Inaugurated on 4 November 1975, Radio Azzurra FM transmits on 100.5 MHz in the provinces of Alessandria, Novara, Varese and Vercelli, supplemented by 92.1 MHz in Novara and DAB+ in Lombardy and Piedmont. It also streams via radioazzurra.net and is globally accessible through the TuneIn mobile/web app.

“We are delighted to welcome Radio Azzurra into our family of clients,” says Roberto Zeccara, senior project manager at BVMedia. “They selected us to perform the total digitisation and optimisation of their internal technical resources. We recommended DHD’s SX2 as the product of excellence for audio management, appreciated for its versatility and speed of setup.”

Like all DHD mixers, the SX2 is very user-friendly which removes the burden of carrying out time-consuming training. Customisation of the keys plus the versatility of the TFT touch screens allows presenters to go on air independently and confidently without needing technical support.”

“The SX2 console’s automation allows easy operation including immediate recall of surface layout, snapshots and scenes. This gives presenters great security when they are working in self-op mode live-to-air.”

DHD SX2 mixing systems are based on a four-fader central surface plus an optional number of modular six-fader expansion surfaces. All faders are dust-resistant and motorised. Each module can be chained with others to create a standalone mixing desk. Integral display screens allow operators to see exactly how their console is performing both from connectivity and signal level perspectives.

The central module of the SX2 gives access to the most important audio inputs and outputs. A microphone input and headphone output are included and loudspeakers can be connected directly to this unit. Each expansion module allows the addition of a second layer accommodating up to 20 faders. Features can be extended simply by adding optional license codes to the DSP core, allowing extra faders, buses and clean feeds.

At the heart of every DHD mixing control surface are IP cores and concentrators. These connect easily with control modules and input/output boxes via RJ45 ports and standard CAT cable carrying audio, power and control signals (DHD’s APC technology). Gigabit audio and data connections with fibre-optic cables (DHD’s GA technology) can optionally be used to connect cores and concentrators.

Capable of operating as a voice booth, a workstation, or built into a flight case, the RM1 Pro’s versatility and compact design make it fit anywhere. Core control networking allows the exchange of logic commands with other DHD devices for talkback or on-air signalling. Users also gain access to individual DHD Toolbox configurations plus the ability to create an RM1 Pro user interface tailored to their workflow. RM1 Pro behaves like a standard DHD Series 52 core device so additional software or features such as remote faders can be licensed if or when required. The remote faders option, for example, allows RM1 Pro channels to be controlled from another DHD system or vice versa.”

Capable of operating from a wall outlet or USB-C linked power source, they are designed for applications such as remote or onsite broadcast contribution, live news production, web radio and podcasting. Features include AD/DA interfacing, audio preamps, 48 volt phantom power for condenser microphones, audio mixing, EQ and signal dynamics processing. AutoMix mode automatically balances incoming audio channels, conforming background audio to a presettable level and minimising distractions. Settings can be adjusted to enhance individual presentation styles.

Connection with external hosts or guests can be established quickly and easily including n-1 mix-minus clean feeds on all return channels to avoid echo and feedback. The control screen can be supplemented by a browser-based interface, allowing operation from a Mac or Windows computer, tablet or a smartphone, or from a Streamdeck via the API. Multichannel recording can be performed to the computer via USB-C.

Also on demonstration at IBC will be latest-generation v1.3 software for the RM1 and RM1 Pro. including the following additions:

Loudness metering and automatic level control keep signal levels consistent with EBU R128, improving sound quality and ensuring compliance.

View options allow switching between peak programme metering, EBU R128 loudness metering and customised loudness metering.

Profanity delay, adjustable up to 100 seconds.

Auxiliary buses enable two flexible sub-mixes to be used for advanced routing, streaming, separate headphone mixes or external processing.

The RM1 and RM1 Pro both support 48 and 44.1 kHz sampling rates and have an external bit depth of 24 bits. Internal processing is 32 bit, floating. Frequency response is 20 Hz to 20 kHz within -0.05 to + 0.03 dB. Complete specifications can be seen at https://rm1.audio/
