It's Time. I'm Going Ghost on Substack 👻
Don't worry I'll still (minimally) interact here, but mostly for inspo and to get eyes on my 👻
I owe Substack something….it helped me find many of you.
There’s an undeniable intellectual and creative current running through that platform…..
….deep thinkers and writers trying to wring meaning from a world built on absurdity and injustice.
I found folks wrestling with the same contradictions I was.
People asking the right questions. People like me.
But Substack itself? The house been cracking. The roots been rotten. And I’m no longer willing to build my liberation-centered work on someone else’s unstable, compromised foundation.
What Sucks About Substack
Nazis. Literal Nazis. And Substack let them stay. Not exactly in line with my Pro-Black values. Not to mention the racists, sexists, homophobes, transphobes, and other bigots.
You’re locked in. Substack’s platform trap is real. You don’t own your site, your database, or even your full email list in a portable way. If they change policies, sell out, or crash? You scramble. Or lose everything.
Bad customer support. When something goes wrong on Substack, you're met with silence or a copy-pasted shrug.
People losing their accounts overnight. Whole newsletters just... gone. Because of a “bug.” That’s fucked.
Spam. If you don’t wall off your subscriber chat, you will be bombarded with fundraiser type spam.
And I’m trying to build something trustworthy. Durable. Ancestrally aligned.
What I Did Like About Substack
Substack has a vibe. Smart folks. Intellectuals. Decolonizers. Misfit mystics. Critics of capitalism who know how to write. Substack helped surface some of the best conversations I’ve ever had.
It gave the illusion of creative sovereignty while quietly keeping the keys.
But liberation means more than exposure. I’m done trading coherence for convenience.
Why I’m Moving to Ghost
Ghost is not perfect, but in the age of techno-feudalism, you take every shred of freedom you can get. Ghost is good at that.
I can self-host or use their servers and still own every line of code and post.
I can customize my entire sit…styling, SEO, integrations, rituals, and rhythms.
I can connect Ghost to open ecosystems like AT Protocol, Mastodon, or my own newsletter archive…no platform capture.
I can build something worthy of the work I’m doing.
Ghost gives me sovereignty and solidarity, not just “reach.”
This move isn’t just technical, it’s spiritual. Dharma Plus Dissent isn’t just a blog. It’s a sacred space for truth in an unraveling world. And that means I can’t keep it somewhere that enables harm, enforces dependence, and betrays creators.
We don’t need more sleek platforms with pretty fonts and bad ethics. We need resilient digital sanctuaries. We need pluralistic publishing ecosystems. We need tools that bend toward liberation, not profit.
So I’m building that. Here.
No need to resubscribe, I already ported you over. Posts on Substack will shortly be deleted but you can find everything at my new site.
Don't worry I'll still (minimally) interact on Substack, but mostly for inspo and to get eyes on my 👻
Welcome to the next chapter.
Come stay human with me at dharmaplusdissent.com.
(I am new to Ghost as a platform so please bear with me as I navigate things in the coming days. Should get the hang of things pretty quickly though)
