Inspiration
All of us have many hours is games such as Bloons TD6, so we were interested in making a similar-style tower defense game.
What it does
In it's current state, the game allows you to go to and start its one level, where different types of zombies will spawn randomly and walk down a track. Along the track are pre-placed turrets of various tiers that will attack zombies at different speeds and damage values. If the zombies get to the end of the track, they will deal damage to the player.
How we built it
We built this project using the Godot game engine using its GDScript for scripting.
Challenges we ran into
This was a first time for game development for most of the team, so it was difficult learning our game engine as we were using it. As with many projects at events like these, our original scope was larger than we were able to accomplish during the allotted time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud of the visuals of the map, enemies, and turrets used in our game. We were able to develop quite a bit for little to no previous experience with Godot.
What we learned
We learned a decent amount in the basics of game engine use; an example being finding targets that come into range and selecting the optimal target.
What's next for Zombocalypse Overdrive
What we would be trying to implement next would be sound and a currency to make the player have to buy and upgrade their turrets. There would be designated slots along the track where players could place the turrets.
