Inspiration
In light of covid-19, there has been rising cases in poor mental health, especially for teenage youth. The inspiration behind this mobile application prototype was to help alleviate some of those stressors for youth and to help them better understand their daily emotions, which are tracked over time.
What it does
The Zenio app has two main features, one to help log emotions and one to help log assignments and activities. This helps students keep track of their emotions as well as upcoming assignments. This is reflected in the overall calendar display as well as in the stats page. Furthermore, we also have a resources page to help students access links to help relieve stress or get information.
How we built it
We developed the mobile app using react native with all members using github to work collaboratively through version control. Languages involved include Javascript and typescript. We also used expo to integrate react native.
Challenges we ran into
A major challenge we ran into was configuring the backend of our system. Although we did explore various database solutions including AWS and Google Firebase, we lacked experience in database management.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Hackathon was a great opportunity for us to expand our coding skills and meet new people. We are proud of being able to develop a usable app through collaboration. Specifically utilizing every member's strengths to our advantage.
What we learned
We learned how a hackathon requires a fast, yet effective process for developing a technical solution for a problem. We also learned how important teamwork and collaborative work is in regards to producing a successful, meaningful outcome. We also learned how there were many current social issues that could be leveraged from a unique and creative technical solution.
What's next for Zenio
We would like to make Zenio an accessible resource for high school students to manage stress and their deadlines. Our future plans are to implement machine learning algorithms to provide users suggestions on how they should break up studying for a test or an assignment they have. We would also like to extend the app prototype to a website or desktop app so users can take their calendar app across multiple devices.
