Inspiration
Inspiration stems from the name itself which is Yggdrasil meaning a tree in norse mythology that is said to connect the 9 worlds in a sense, first heard of this name from a bot on the text service discord and like the name we would like to connect people for the better of the world
What it does
It first of all allows people to create articles and Blogposts about Environmental Sustainability and allows other users to read the articles that have been written by other people, this exchange of information acts as better for all as the user is now more well informed about the topic that they were reading in regards to.
How I built it
Built on flutter using the Dart programming language and optimised and created for iOS, connected to a database at the backed via Firebase owned and operated by Google, can be run on web and android with few minimal changes,
Challenges I ran into
Connecting the front end to the back end took seemingly long firstly because of how arguments were being passed from screen to screen and how we the team took a conscious decision to make the app more specific and dynamic for a wider variety of users, additionally around 3 in the morning the Dart plugin stopped working which we as of now assume was an update to the Dart Plugin which caused a huge variety of problems within the project.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
This app itself, how it functions in a seamless manner without any hassles is something that deeply relieves me.
What I learned
The amount of in real life knowledge I gained about flutter within a day is absolutely mesmerising and the amount of information we learnt as a team is immense as well
What's next for Yggdrasil
An inbuilt chat system so that users can interact about how the recycled waste can be exchanged and to discuss different events, authentication built in with Google and Facebook and Twitter
