Inspiration

Tropicode was inspired by many things. The tropical concept first came to us unexpectedly while looking at a simple coconut tree illustration. I think i would make the appearance felt warm, fun, and friendly for learners. We also took inspiration from apps like Duolingo, which use challenges to keep users engaged. The AI feature is influenced by ChatGPT, but we added categorized AI tools so users can choose help based on their specific needs.

What it does

Tropicode is an educational platform designed to help users develop their skills in the IT field. It provides:

Bite-sized, engaging IT courses
Interactive challenges to sharpen skills
A built-in task manager to track learning goals
AI-powered assistance, including: -AI Summary: Condenses key points from lessons -AI Chat: Helps with brainstorming, questions, and guidance

How we built it

We started by defining the theme and core concept of the app. Then, we outlined the main and supporting features, created wireframes for all screens, refined the design and lastly built a prototype in Figma.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges we faced:

Too many ideas: We had a lot of interesting ideas and features, and it took a day to prioritize and simplify them.
Time zone coordination: Our team worked from different locations, so syncing up for discussions was challenging
Time management: Balancing other responsibilities while progressing on the project required discipline and flexibility

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully designed the initial version of the app in Figma, including:

A complete user learning flow
Functional AI integration
A structured dashboard with challenge tracking

What we learned

From this project, we learned to understand user needs in learning, think about the features needed, and learned that making the design appearance of an application must be fun and simple in order to provide an impressive user experience.
