Inspiration

Imagine a world where the thrill of ice climbing and the essential skills of survival are within everyone's reach. Our XR experience offers just that - an immersive, accessible journey into the world of extreme sports and survival, previously limited to a select few due to access to expert training and financial constraints.

Addressing Pain Points

  • Skill Accessibility
  • Lack of Awareness & Participation
  • Financial Barriers
  • Safe Learning Environment

What it does

XR Wilderness Academy is a skills-building game where the user learns outdoor activities and engages in hands-on learning. Players are gently onboarded into the mixed reality experience that uses passthrough. This provides visual comfort and stability, allowing the player to focus on learning new skills. Then as they progress in the training their surroundings become increasingly virtual and they are rewarded with a scenic virtual vista at the end of their experience. We aim to make adventures accessible (financially, psychologically) so everyone can enjoy the great outdoors… indoors.

We see this as a platform that can take individuals from awareness, to skill building, to making a desired outdoor activity a reality.

How we built it

Development Platform: Unity version 20222.2.8 using: Target Platform: Quest 3 Headset Meta presence SDK leveraging:

Challenges we ran into

  • Wifi Bandwidth download/upload challenges impact Unity Version and GIT synch
  • Downloading unity versions
  • Codeberg repository and initial push
  • SDK package errors
  • Git conflicts
  • Build challenges
  • Pokeable interaction challenges -Getting bezi integrated into project
  • Meta headset loaner
  • Ran out of space
  • Laptop incompatibility with development for headset

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Flexibility was one of our superpowers. Our ability to pivot seamlessly during the process proved crucial to our success, adapting swiftly to new challenges and opportunities.
  • We are proud in how effectively we integrated several of the sponsor technologies. Their tools streamlined our workflow but also significantly enhanced the overall outcome.
  • We were able to bridge knowledge gaps and challenges with a collaborative approach
  • Integrating technologies
  • Project Scope
  • Team alignment coalescing around a vision
  • Team with Complementary skills set

What we learned

  • Developers should consider using a PC based laptop that connects to Quest 3 device for quick testing
  • Download the proper version of Unity prior to visit as downloading onsite was a challenge
  • New Technologies
  • Design principles for MR
