Inspiration
When our team exchanged common interests, food was on all our lists. Since we were interested in learning mobile development, we made an app with Flutter for our first time.
What it does
Our app lets you search your favourite recipes, providing links, images and all the necessary information in one click.
How we built it
We used Flutter and Edamam API for our app.
Challenges we ran into
Since it was our first time working with Flutter, it took us a long time to understand its syntax and inner workings while watching tutorials. Also, the original food API we wanted to use did not work, presumably due to its variable incompatibility with Flutter. We had to do more research to find a replacement API, which worked in the end.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We got a working demo despite being new to Flutter and spending loads of time eating, networking, and having fun.
What we learned
How Flutter works and working smarter with APIs.
What's next for Recipe App
We would like to enhance the user's experience by allowing them to take a picture of their fridge/pantry, instead of manually inputting the ingredients they want to cook with. We plan to use Machine Learning Image Recognition using Google's mlkit to get the user's ingredients in their photo.
