WYA

Inspiration

Snapmap was a big inspiration. We liked the idea of a user getting a happy surprise that a friend is near.

What it does

It connects you with nearby friends. If you are both free it will arrange an outing.

How we built it

We programmed the back-end using python storing all of the users data in Firebase. We are currently implementing flask and react on the front end.

Challenges we ran into

We started using swift and realized that it wasn't going to be a viable option because not all members have mac products to test the code. We also have never used firebase before so accessing the cloud took a lot of trial and error.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to access firebase and change objects in the cloud. This is our first time ever working with any sort of cloud.

What we learned

We learned how to use cloud services, how to import python files within another python file, and how to work with the front end side of developing. We have only done back-end work before this weekend.

What's next for WYA

Next we are going to allow for unique user profiles to be created (they are hard codded at this time). After that we want to add recommending nearby events for the friends to go to.
