Wander

Inspiration

Inspired by Pokemon-Go and Duolingo we want to create an application that gamifies the user’s daily walking experience and encourages walking to destinations over other means of transportation.

What it does

Wander uses Google Map API to know your current location and give you routes for your desired location. Throughout your journey, minigames with a fantasy twist will appear in the form of popups to make the walk more fun. There are several quests that you can choose from. Wander keeps track of your total walking distance and provides information on what impact your walking has made for the environment. The web-browser keeps you engaged gems and achievements. With Wander, your walk becomes a delightful eco-conscious game that rewards you with excitement, fitness, and a touch of enchantment.

How we built it

Wander uses HTML, CSS, and Javascript to bring our web-browser to life. The user’s current location as well as routes for a given destination are made possible through the use of Google-maps API. In order to apply our gaming features such as our Runes memorization minigame was developed using python and made compatible with our web-browser using Flask.

Challenges we ran into

As we learnt how to code in Javascript, HTML and CSS we ran into problems learning syntax to implement our design logic. We spent lots of time troubleshooting.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As a team who came into this hackathon with primarily python knowledge, we are proud of how much we have learned in the past day. We took a brave step and decided to use languages such as Javascript, html, and CSS which we were not familiar with and we managed to develop a project that we are proud of.

What we learned

We learned more about teamwork and listening to each other to develop an idea that encompassed each member's idea. We learned how to code together and how to ensure the code could be interconnected.

What's next for Wander

In the future, Wander plans to forge partnerships with businesses, offering enticing rewards at the end of your journey, like store coupons or adorable collectibles, to inspire more people to choose walking over driving. Imagine weather-specific events with games tailored to winter or rainy days, making Wander a year-round companion. Join us on this magical eco-friendly journey, where every step contributes to a greener world and unlocks a world of magic!
