Wondai - The Universal Messaging Interface

Inspiration

We kept running into the same problem across engineering, support, and sales teams: conversations scattered across email, WhatsApp, Slack, SMS, Telegram, and internal tools. Critical context got split across platforms, replies were missed, and teams looked uncoordinated even when working hard. We realized modern communication is multi-channel, but the tools we use are still single-channel. Wondai exists to fix that.

Motivation and Impact

John first encountered the problem during his internship in engineering. Whenever a client reported an issue, the conversation split across different platforms. A customer would email the team about an error, while engineers discussed the same issue in Slack after noticing logs or alerts. These were two sides of the same problem, the customer report and the internal debugging, but they lived in disconnected systems with no shared context.

John often found himself fixing issues discussed in Slack, only to discover later that the customer had already followed up over email and no one had replied. The Slack side assumed the email side had handled it. The email side assumed engineering had it. The fragmentation, not the team, caused delays, confusion, and duplicated work.

James saw another version of this pattern in his work as a Forward Deployed Engineer supporting sales and customer-facing teams. His role required working directly with prospects and customers while coordinating with sales, engineering, and product. He noticed the sales team conversations were scattered across WhatsApp, LinkedIn, Telegram, and email. A lead might start with an email, then follow up on WhatsApp, and the update could easily go unnoticed because it lived in a separate app with no connection to the original thread.

As an FDE, James needed a complete view of the customer journey, what was said, what was promised, and what the next action should be. Instead, the context was spread across multiple platforms, making coordination harder and slowing deals down. The slowdown was not caused by product issues, but by fragmented workflows.

Both John and James saw the same underlying issue from different angles: engineering and sales, internal troubleshooting and customer-facing work. Too many platforms, no unified context.

These experiences made the motivation for Wondai clear. Business communication today is multi-platform, but the tools teams use are still single-platform. That gap leads to missed replies, duplicated effort, slower decisions, and lost revenue.

Wondai solves this by unifying every platform, email, WhatsApp, SMS, Telegram, Slack, and internal notes, into what we call Feeds by Meaning. Instead of grouping messages by where they came from, Wondai organizes them by what they mean: urgency, intent, topic, sentiment, customer type, or workflow stage. Teams naturally think in terms of urgent issues, payment problems, or VIP customers, not in terms of apps, and Wondai mirrors that.

When someone emails and later messages on WhatsApp, it appears as one continued thread. Internal Slack discussions sit next to the customer original report. Follow-ups across platforms never get lost. If volume becomes overwhelming, Wondai can collapse everything into a chronological chat-style stream. And on heavy days, Up Next and Focused View use AI to surface the exact threads to handle next.

The impact is immediate: faster responses, better deal flow, clearer workload distribution, fewer repeated customer explanations, and teams shifting from reactive chaos to coordinated action.

Wondai was not born from theory but from real frustration. Communication was everywhere and context was nowhere. The goal is simple: make multi-platform communication manageable, visible, and aligned so no message or opportunity is ever lost again.

What It Does

Wondai unifies all business conversations into a single AI-powered workspace.

Key features include:

  • Unified threads across email, WhatsApp, Slack, SMS, Telegram, and internal notes
  • Feeds by Meaning using AI Smart Natural Filters
  • AI Insights Panel showing intent, sentiment, escalation signals, and churn risk
  • Thread list with channel badges and real-time filtering
  • Thread view with channel-aware replies and unified history
  • Focused View and Up Next for high-volume workflows
  • Optional chat-style stream for simplified processing

How We Built It

Wondai is built using:

  • React for the UI
  • Tailwind v4 for styling and design tokens
  • Lucide icons for channel cues
  • Mock data layer simulating users, threads, messages, intents, and feeds
  • Protected routes and an onboarding access gate
  • A 6-step onboarding experience including channel connection, processing visualization, AI feed discovery, and feed customization using the FeedDetailsModal

The main dashboard uses a 3-column layout with a collapsible sidebar, unified thread list, and AI insights panel.

Challenges We Ran Into

  • Unifying multiple message formats into one consistent interface
  • Designing Feeds by Meaning that feel natural and intuitive
  • Balancing high information density with clarity
  • Making AI-generated filters readable and editable
  • Building a realistic multi-channel experience entirely on mock data

Accomplishments We Are Proud Of

  • Complete universal messaging dashboard with unified threads
  • Functional onboarding flow with AI-driven feed creation
  • FeedDetailsModal with inline rule editing and drag-and-drop filtering
  • AI Insights Panel simulating real-world escalation and sentiment patterns
  • A cohesive, scalable design system built on Tailwind v4

What We Learned

We learned how deeply fragmented communication harms teams, and how much clarity can be unlocked by grouping messages by meaning instead of platform. We also learned how AI-driven UX patterns, like feed previews and natural rule editing, dramatically improve user speed and confidence.
