Inspiration

Inspired by my 'CSE 351' course, where I first learned about the ENIAC programmers, this project aims to preserve history, educate others, and empower future generations of female coders.

What it does

The Women in Computing Archive is an interactive website that highlights the achievements of female pioneers in tech. Users can explore profiles of computing legends like Ada Lovelace, Grace Hopper, and the ENIAC programmers, each with brief stories and external resources. The site also features a blog and a community section to encourage discussions and learning.

How we built it

We developed the site using HTML, CSS, and Tailwind for a clean, responsive design. JavaScript powers interactive elements like the navigation menu, making the platform user-friendly across devices. The goal was to create a visually appealing, accessible space where users can easily engage with these inspiring stories.

Challenges we ran into

One challenge was designing a site that balances historical depth with simplicity. We wanted it to be informative without overwhelming users. Ensuring mobile responsiveness was another hurdle, but Tailwind helped streamline the styling process.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud of building a platform that not only educates but also sparks curiosity about the women who shaped computing. Seeing everything come together—from the visuals to the interactive features—was incredibly rewarding.

What we learned

Through this project, we gained a deeper appreciation for web development and accessibility. We also learned the importance of storytelling in technology—how design and functionality can bring history to life for a modern audience.

What's next for Women in Computing Archive

Next, we plan to expand the archive by adding more profiles, blog posts, and interactive features. We’d also love to include personal stories from modern women in tech to bridge the past with the present. Our goal is to make this a living, growing resource that continues to inspire and educate.
